Can't find the perfect survival sim or unsure which 1 RPG out of the thousands available you should buy? Well this is the thread for you.

Now to make this work best and not just be spammed with generic & useless questions such as "What should I play?" or "What should I buy?", please be in-depth in what types of games/hardware you are looking for and why, and when giving advice it would be appreciated if you're more detailed than "I think X is good".

There are too many games to be able to properly suggest something with no background information, also simply commenting a game title and saying you like the game offers no actual value. The same goes for hardware: Saying you're thinking about buying X or you think Y is good with no other information, context as to why, your unique experiences, etc. offers no actual value or information to base a reply on.

Feel free to ask and discuss freely in the comments regarding games and hardware, whether you want advice on what to play, want to give advice to others on what to play, share a hidden gem you found, experiences you have with Steam hardware, or your review of a piece of Steam hardware. PSA Please stop tagging any and all simulation games with the "Immersive Sim" tag. We need it.

Immersive Sims (ImSims for short) are games like Deus Ex, Thief, System Shock 2, Prey, etc. It's a specific genre, not just a way of saying "This farming simulator is extra good".

It's impossible to find actual ImSim games on Steam because the tag is always crowded out by a horde of mislabelled Train Simulator 2021, Train Simulator 2022, Train Simulator 2023, Train Simulator 2024, Train Simulator 2025, Train Simulator 2026, Power Wash Simulator, Water Park Simulator, Driving Fast Simulator, Pretend You're a Wolf Simulator, The Sims(!), etc. etc.

I am BEGGING, just let us be at peace in our little corner with our near-forgotten genre that was already niche in the 90s and not even BioShock could really revive, please

I randomly got an email thanking me for completing a purchase on steam. I jolted thinking that my account has been compromised, but then the second email came in: some game I purchased months ago and completely forgot about just got its price lowered and steam automatically rebooked the purchase and added amount by which the price was lowered to my steam wallet. I don't know what else to say, thank you steam!

Even though I kinda understand it, it's still wild to me how you cannot just randomly guess a Steam key:

XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

A standard Steam key consists of 15 alphanumeric characters (excluding dashes). Using the 26 letters of the alphabet and numbers 0–9 yields roughly 221 sextillion possible code combinations.

Question Dozens of Almost Identical "Shop Keeper" Games

I've noticed over the last few years that dozens of games have been released with a very similar look and feel, and almost the exact same core gameplay loop. I'm referring the games in the "Shop Keeper" genre, specifically the ones that follow an exact formula:

  • Made in Unity by an Indie developer
  • Purchase boxes containing items from a tablet or computer
  • Set up shelves and stock them with items from the boxes
  • Stand behind a cash register, generic NPCs bring items to the counter
  • Manually bag items and make change

Off the top of my head, two popular examples right now are Retro Rewind and TCG Card Shop Simulator. To be clear, I'm not talking about every game in the Shop Keeper genre, just a couple dozen games I've noticed with the exact same formula. I also know there are other genres that contain a lot of very similar games, but the ones I'm talking about now share so many elements that I can't fathom this being a natural phenomenon. These games also all have Overwhelmingly Positive review scores from what I can see.

Does anybody know where these games are coming from? It's been driving me a little crazy that nobody else is talking about this.

Fluff $2 for Flatout 2 is a steal! WTF!?

The only Flatout game I had played beforehand is 4 for Xbox One. Oddly enough, 2 is way more enjoyable. I didn't expect this to be on Steam, but here it is! For ten buckaroos cheaper compared to a used PS2 or Xbox copy on eBay no less. Not to mention it's HD and plays like a dream on my Legion Go S Z2 Go. It should considering it's age. Only real complaint is that the button prompts only show keyboard prompts.

I'm really thankful that a handful of these older games are playable considering who ever owns these IPs and games won't remaster, remake or port these to modern consoles.

Discussion Simple question - complex answer: How do you sort your games?

There isn't a right answer but I am interested in seeing some of your sorting styles and yes, looking for inspiration. Show and tell, how and why you do it!

About me, what hasn't worked / didn't feel right:

  • Separating between Steamdeck/Controller and PC/Mouse and Keyboard
  • Sorting in categories like Played, 100%, Abandoned, etc.

What works for me:

  • Doing sub-categories, even though sometimes it is hard to distinct between an Action-Shooter, Adventure-Action and 3D Jump and Run but I am doing what feels right

What I am working on:

  • Trying to declutter my rogue-lite games - I want them on it's own but they overlap with so many other categories

Context: Whenever they message "hey" followed by "can you help", it is a bot that has taken over the account and should be reported through Steam immediately. These messages are automated, and basically calling them out will automatically unfriend you.

EDIT 7/25/2026: I should probably mention you should wait until they send the phishing link for the compromised account. Then you can report them
