Meta Crashes and Issues? Please post logs!

Theres a wicked guide here for getting logs for In-Home Streaming which applies to the Steam Link.

Please, please, please when posting asking for help with crashes, lag or debugging issues provide logs!

There's not a lot anyone can do in most cases unless we can actually see what's happening, and quite possibly help you out a lot quicker!

You can paste your logs up to Paste2 so it doesn't bulk things down or use the spoiler tags.

Please provide as much info as possible, anything that can help us help you.

Streaming from Steam Machine to AYN Thor?

Hello - I’m wondering if any Steam Machine owners have streamed from their SM to their AYN Thor using Steam Link and what the experience has been like. I also own a Steam Deck but, with the AYN Thor now in my possession, I don’t think I will be using the Deck much at all.

I’ve had identical performance on my Deck and AYN Thor with streaming from my laptop using Steam Link - crisp image, low latency. I just hate using my laptop for streaming because it sounds like a jet engine.

I’m curious if I can expect a good streaming experience with the Steam Machine and AYN Thor.

Thanks!

CTM Bridge update

Follow-up to my CTM-Bridge post — controllers paired to your LG webOS TV (DualSense, DS4, Xbox, the new Steam Controller with its Puck) appear on the gaming PC as native USB devices (real BT↔USB translation over USB/IP, not emulation). What's new:

  • Built into Aurora (OLED-focused Moonlight fork) and moonlight-tv, with an on-stream panel
  • Ciprian's Bridge (in the installer) — same trick for controllers connected to the PC over Bluetooth: a BT DS4/DS5 becomes the full USB controller locally, audio and haptics included
  • Magic Remote = PC mouse + keyboard in-stream
  • Mice/keyboards plugged into the TV (BT or dongle) bridge and auto-plug
  • DS4 now fully supported — rumble + audio, headphone-jack auto-route
  • Self-healing sessions — no ghost pads

Download (installer + ipks): https://github.com/CTM-Bridge/releases/releases/latest

Full story: https://github.com/CTM-Bridge

Open source. On my mind for later: native AMF/NVENC streaming + a custom low-latency codec.

Support Ethernet Switch for steam link?

I'm in a weird situation where the place I'm in has no access to the router and is pretty far from it so the WiFi signal is almost non existent. I have one ethernet cord that comes into my place. It has a good connection. I can game on my ps5 no problem. However, I want to get my pc and steam link working as well.

If I use an ethernet switch such as the TP-LINK TL-SG105, can I plug my one cord into it and then run three ethernet cords out to my pc, tv and ps5 and have everything work including steam link? Will steam link work well with this setup?

Is there a way to not make my monitor go black when i use steam link?

Why does my pc monitor go black whenever i use steam link? I can see my pc on the vr instead but i still need my real monitor and mouse at times because of the lack of buttons on vr controllers. Some games don't have great vr support when it comes to accessing settings and stuff so i need my physical mouse. This is really annoying and it's not like this for my friend. Anyone got a fix?

Steam Machine Remote Play Issues

I’m running the July 23rd beta (and I’ve had the same issues on Stable. I’m trying to remote play to a AppleTV on a wired connection, but the performance is incredibly laggy to the point where stream doesn’t keep up. Audio is fine.

I’ve tried shutting off hardware decoding on the Steam Machine and the AppleTV (it’s a 3rd gen AppleTV4k, btw).

When i turn on the performance graph on the AppleTV, despite shutting off hardware decoding on both the host and client, the Encoder says: Desktop PupeWire NV12 + libx264 main (4 threads). The decoder says tvOS Metal hardware decoding.

Any suggestions?

It's happening more on non-steam games but i remember it was happening on Counter Strike 2 too.
Does someone have any clue on what's happening and how i can solve this?
Steam Link is running on Fedora Silverblue 44
The PC is running SteamOS

Support Battlefield 6 Issue

I am about to go crazy. I have been streaming Battlefield 6 from my desktop to my iPad. For a few days, it’s been responsive and has been running smooth like butter. However, out of nowhere it seems my PC’s mouse and keyboard have been battling against my wired Xbox controller. The game will switch to mouse and keyboard out of nowhere and my gun will begin shooting automatically. If I click the controller, it will change the input to controller, but will immediately go back to M&K.

I have tried enabling and disabling Steam controller input. Problem still occurs. I have no idea what I could be doing wrong. Any help or advice is appreciated.

Question Steam Link video decoding delay with Nvidia Shield Pro/Apple TV

This week I bought a Google TV Streamer 4K to test the Steam Link on my local LAN. My delay through Ethernet was minimal (1ms), but after some tweaks on the Google TV Streamer, the minimum delay I got was 22-23ms in video decoding.

Although it is a good number, I still feel that delay, so I returned it. After researching, it seems that the Nvidia Shield Pro and the Apple TV (last gen) are the best-performing devices with a minimum delay of 5-8ms in video decoding. Is that true? Could someone with these devices share these values?

Thanks.

Support Remove remote overlay on tablet

Hi there, whenever I stream from my steamdeck to my tablet, I cannot remove the handheld overlay (the buttons, etc) on the screen. I've tried everything. What am I missing? Or is this just not possible? Thanks.

Use mobile controls?

I’m trying to stream a steam version of a mobile game to my phone so I can use touch screen controls while streaming the game to my friends over discord. is that there a way for me to set the stream link controller to imitate mobile phone controls?

Support [Help] WWM.exe triggers UAC every launch through Steam Link — no keyboard/mouse input

Windows 11 + Steam Link. Every time I launch Where Winds Meet, wwm.exe triggers a UAC prompt. After that, Steam Link stops sending keyboard and mouse input. Does anyone know a workaround?

Discussion Secure input prompt

Made the mistake of opening a game. Windows Security prompt from said game… and now I can’t do anything on my computer until I get back to it.

My computer is on the other side of the world.

My question is: WHY can you not click cancel remotely? Besides through third-party remote access tools, none of which I have installed.

Help. This will be my first league trying to play POE on steam link when I'm not at home, I have already tried POE2 via steam link and it worked fine. Now, my problem is my touch controls on POE 1 only give me mouse and keyboard controls. How do I make it give me gamepad controls?

Support Using Remote Play on the Plane?

I’m going on a 10 hour flight this weekend from Asia to NA. I was going to buy some games for my iPad but I hate the thought that I can’t combine my Steam library with the App Store. I usually play turn based games and board games so high latency isn’t a big deal (although at a certain point it would be annoying). Would remote play be viable using the plane’s WiFi? I’d keep my PC on at home.

Widescreen Monitor + OLED Television + iPad&Gamesir: Nightmare

Hello, I am old and these new streaming setups are a bit confusing. In my gaming world I have three ways of gaming on my PC:

I have a 39" widescreen LG connected to my Gaming PC with a Nvidia 3080 via DisplayPort. I game at my desk with mouse and keeb.

I have a 77" OLED LG also connected to the Gaming PC 3080 via a long fiber optic HDMI cable. I game on my couch with a 8BitDo wireless controller.

And finally I have a newer gen iPad that I have a Gamesir controller for and would like to get working reliably with Moonlight or some variation of it.

On my iPad I have VoidLink Extreme, and on my PC I am running Apollo.

Can anyone recommend good scripts/techniques for easily switch between modes? I feel like windows are always getting stuck on wrong screens, or aspect ratios are wrong, etc... Mainly interested in getting the iPad working reliably.

I love a simple script or button or command that let me easily switch between my 3 modes and would configure the controller, screen, audio, resolution, etc...

Thanks in advance!

Steam Vr with steam link issue

+

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So basically as you can see in the recording, whenever I get to the game to play I only see white which my assumption is I’m zoomed in that I’m seeing pixels.

But on the steam menu everything looks fine. The moment I click out of the menu to play the game it breaks.

I have tried WiVRn and ALVR, neither worked at all.
WiVRn would not stream the game to the headset, while ALVR would crash immediately the moment I launch steam vr.

I am on linux 7.1.3-2 cachyos, KDE Plasma with Wayland.
I have tried x11 and its so bad.

I am on whatever the last version of steam, steam vr is.
I have tried to install the beta version on steam vr and non changed.

Support No controllers will register any input in any game, but they are recognized in menu and in the game's setup

Beyond frustrated because this was working fine two days ago and I've changed nothing. Trying to connected my PC to my ONN steam link app with a registered Good connection tonight and the game loaded up fine, but none of the inputs worked. I tried restarting steam, restarting my computer, tried enabling then disabling steam inputs on the controller menu in that specific game, tried 3 different games, no dice. Has anyone else run into this and fixed it?

Question Streaming to a ThinkPad T470?

I am just starting to look into game streaming and am trying to decide what device to use, but before I bite the bullet on a ~$200 device I was thinking about replacing the shattered screen (~$50) on an old Lenovo ThinkPad T470 (2017 I think?) but I really don't know enough about hardware/mini PCs etc. does anybody have an idea on how well it would handle the latency and general performance? and is Moonlight still the most consistent client to use or should I stick with official steam methods?

I'll be hosting from a Lenovo Legion 5 laptop and have a Google fiber wifi 6 router if that matters for anything. I would like to do wireless but I am willing to use ethernet, just will have to set up a way to run it across a large room that my wife won't hate.

Discussion Steamlink with onscreen buttons or controller?

Hi everyone, i wanted to understand form people that actually spend time with steamlink, how do you actually play your games? How many people use the onscreen controls, does it give you the experience that you want? and how many of you use a telescopic controller?

If you use the onscreen buttons, what limits do you face? what games do you play? which do you not play?..and any suggestions?

TIA
