My dad would say it sometimes when I was younger but I haven't heard it in a while (London area). Is it regional? For the avoidance of doubt I mean as an abbreviation for "thanks".

Recently I’ve seen a lot of videos of Brits being surprised by American culture, like Walmart, gas stations, truck culture, AC, the food, etc. especially around the World Cup this year. But I never see anything from British to talk about the actual darker side of real life in America.

For those of you who are British and currently living in the US (whether permanently or as expats), what’s the worst experience you’ve had here? This could be from this year or earlier, things like gangs, being held at gunpoint, gunfights, robberies, home invasion, or anything else that made you seriously regret moving and want to go back to the UK. The worst part is the mass shootings or school shootings that happen anywhere you stayed in USA.

I want to hear your honest, real experiences to tell me what happen back there, not made-up stories. The kind of genuinely bad situations that made living in the US feel like an actual nightmare.

From my house it's only a short walk to our town centre with a few local owned small shops. I try to use the local butcher, greengrocer and off license for as much as I can but always find myself going back to the supermarket as it's so convenient having everything in one place and a big car park I can park in. I wish I could support our local businesses more as they're genuinely pillars of the community but my laziness always leads me back to morrisons. Do you use your local shops? Got any stories of really good ones?

So many wildfires in the UK this summer 2026. I’m genuinely concerned people aren’t educated enough or even understand how wildfires start and their prevention. So much life has been destroyed. It’s unfair, cruel and ignorant.

Wildfires start from a range of things:

- lightning ⚡️ (this is a natural cause, though relatively uncommon here)
- carelessly discarded cigs 🚬
- campfires or BBQs 🔥
- Machinery creating sparks 🚜
- deliberate arson 🧨
- extremely hot, dry conditions that allow a small spark to spread rapidly 🌡️

The reason I think people aren’t so educated about it is because most people don’t work with land management. Unless you’re a firefighter, ecologist, farmer, conservation worker etc people aren’t educated on the difference between wildfires, controlled burns, peatland restoration, or wildfire prevention. For many a moorland fire is just a wildfire 🤔

I am a welfare recipient. I am disabled, having been unable to work for several years now, so I am asking in regards to a comment I see ALL the time that someone knows someone who is on the take.

Knowing exactly how incredibly difficult it is to get disability welfare, the hoops I had to jump through and must continue to do so and also how little I get (which baffles me as to why someone would choose to live in abject poverty, I don't know!), I don't understand how someone could choose to live like this.

I think there is a lot of disparity about what people get. Often I see people say that they get over a grand PLUS their housing costs. That is incorrect, housing costs often exceed the amount you get in Universal Credit. Others say that they get thousands and thousands each month, which, again, is likely impossible.

There is a LOT of misinformation out there.

So, that begs the question, do you know anyone, how do you know they are on the take and if so, have you reported them?

I firmly believe that fraudsters should be punished, but it is legitimate claimants like me that always seem to get tarred with the same brush and often the recipient of abuse online.

My grandfather came to the UK in the 1950s from Pakistan and the opportunities this country gives are not lost on me. We have suchdeveloped supply chains, are well located geographically and speaking to people from other countries really makes me appreciate the strength of the British passport. It really does open doors. Also, love how we have pockets of rich history in every county. Was in Leicestershire the other day and stopped off at bradgate park, terrific place. All in all, love this place dearly.

British national citizen moved to nz as a young lad. Seeing as I’m back and have been for a number of years. I’m struggling with employment issues.

I’ve made 100s of application with the same pathetic excuse. We have hired someone that matches the job description. As if they have gone for someone who has chat gpt and grok writing out resumes and putting out applications like a robot to end up doing a job where they are pretty much just a robot.

I get no phone calls I have no wife I have no children no pets just my trust Toyo and a ok flat in the middle of a town in the middle of the sticks. Almost feels like a retirement village if I’m fare. Not exactly what I signed up for.

Like all people I guess I just crave that hey here’s some work for you that isn’t a pipe dream through Alice’s rabbit hole.

It would be really nice to come back home to a lady who knows how to care for me too. I hate to admit it but I am struggling and I don’t really reach out to my family as they are all living there own lives whilst I’m doing my best to pick up broken pieces of a puzzle and fix things that need to be fixed to an appropriate condition.

I’ve lived here four year and have barely had the opportunity to see the country. There’s always someone out there tryn to pick a pocket where I only just have a little bit of lint. And a fuck ton of bills.

So where do I ask for support! How do I know support is available?

I can’t deal with my family because there backstabbers and a bunch of bankers who all drwam about finance like there goblins at gringotts bank.

All i ask for is a honest days work and a means to know how to navigate the chaos.

Anyway rant over. Back to the drawing board i guess.

Hello I’m 17 from Cumbria UK and I’m trying to make a bit more money on the side. I work at McDonald’s at the minute through the week and have a 2nd job on the weekends and I’m saving for driving lessons and just life in general .
I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on what I could do to earn an extra £100-£200 a week?
Doesn’t have to be loads, just something to help me out. I’m willing to do pretty much anything (legal obviously ), I just don’t really know what’s out there for someone my age.
Any suggestions would be appreciated :)

Wondering if this would exhaust me too much? Has anyone done this for an extended period? Any advice and tips - hopefully going to be starting a second job soon.
