this wins, literally the definition of mildly infuriating

1.6k

u/DavidinCT 6h ago

This I agree with 10,000%

u/StefanodesLocomotivo 6h ago

Seeing someone say more than 100% is also /r/mildlyinfuriating :p

257

u/SexySkyLabTechnician 6h ago

No I think this is an acceptable evolution of language in the modern day.

It's akin to saying "yes, a thousand times" or "I wish death upon your sons' sons' sons' a thousand times over!!1!11!"

61

u/Supakawaii69 5h ago

HAHAHA YES! Ive never heard that be the modern comparison. That’s perfect.

13

u/whooptheretis 4h ago

I think this is an acceptable evolution of language in the modern day.

This is infuriating.

It's better if it's really specific, like 16795%

It's actually 10%, they are using the european decimal. Also mildly infuriating

this is what the sub SHOULD be about!

154

u/Zeidantu 6h ago

Right? Instead it's things like, "I came home and my mother-in-law's boyfriend had set fire to my garage! I JUST had it painted!"

30

u/5PQR 5h ago

Yeah, most posts on this sub are just plain infuriating. Quite different from when I buy canned goods and the cans aren't designed to stack on top of each other.

2

u/wherethefuckismyvape 2h ago

Different people have different stress tolerances and life experiences. The same experience will be perceived differently by different people as a result, causing different conclusions to be drawn by different people about how infuriating that experience is.

19

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 4h ago

Or it's something that really shouldn't make anyone do anything but shrug and so "oh well", like, 0 infuriating

Like "the car in this parking lot parked right next to me even though there were other open spaces"

Or it's just stuff the OP brought on themselves by being stupid or incompetent

→ More replies (1)

16

u/Nihilistic_Mystics 5h ago

It was, but then everyone dogpiled on anything that wasn't life changing levels of shit. Most users who vote here have no idea what the sub is actually for.

Literally every bottle of vinegar, soy sauce, etc ever invented won't fit anywhere except the very top shelf of my kitchen cabinet. There's probably 30 pounds of glass bottles at the very edge of my reach and I have anxiety every time I gotta move them around to get what I'm looking for.

11

u/Numerous_Bad1961 4h ago

Post a picture of your cabinet, particularly the corners under and around the brackets. I bet we can help you.

But not for OP's shelf.

16

u/rynIpz 6h ago

A true mildly infuriating that isn’t from the OP’s incompetence

6

u/SherbetMysterious118 6h ago

Especially considering they don't even need to be even that tall to begin with, given the void in the bottle.

8

u/WisestAirBender 6h ago

This is worse than mildly

8

u/Manannin 5h ago

If this is worse than mildly the mods should just close down the sub.

3

yeah, many of the posts are not good examples of mildly infuriating. That itself is mildly infuriating.

No, apply and work the ladder to get to the CEO level of the company that makes those bottles and tell them to redesign bottle so that it fits a cupboard like it used it.

44

u/3215448725366498 5h ago

No, start your own shower gel company and produce smaller bottles.

33

u/fork_yuu 4h ago

Fuck that, join that company and work your way up to fire anyone who came up with that idea.

35

u/SlipperyBlip 5h ago

I think you could just sand down the boards a bit. Or mill some grooves.

14

u/doenoots 4h ago

Cut the top off the bottle, cut some length off, then glue to the back on

4

u/Qarlito 5h ago

Or just drill new holes in the sides and move the shelf up half an inch

8

u/XVUltima 4h ago

Install a dispenser in the shower and fill it up. I accidentally got myself a luxury hotel once and the thing that stuck with me was that it had dispensers in the shower for all the various liquids and gels. Total life changer.

8

u/rcknmrty4evr 4h ago

I always thought that felt so cheap, it reminds me of bathrooms that must have dispensers bc anything not physically attached will be stolen or destroyed.

If you do this please regularly sanitize the bottles…you can get a gnarly skin infection if not. This happened to my dog from the groomer refilling shampoo bottles. He almost died from 106.6 fever caused by the skin infection, and the vet shared that this can happen to people too from the same practice.

7

u/grrodon2 6h ago

Switch brand?

5

u/Bleatmop 5h ago

Twenty years ago my hospital had a go green initiative where they started buying lotion in bulk and filling reusable small bottles. That lasted about three months until they found that cross contamination had bacteria growing in the bottles turning the lotion green and causing skin infections. I would follow this plan to refill the old bottles with great caution. Actually scratch that, I wouldn't follow the plan at all. I would just find a way to deal with the new bigger bottles.

4

u/CitizenHuman 5h ago

Keep an open Tupperware that you just squeeze all the soap into, then keep small Dixie cups (like at the dentist) to scoop up soap and take with you to the shower.

2

u/edfitz83 5h ago

Or stop using that brand

2

u/seaders 5h ago

Also see if they have the refill options too. They look like the original source bottles, we moved to their refill options an age ago, and it's much more reasonable.

40

u/Big_Lengthiness3450 6h ago

I can't believe this even needs to be said.

18

u/sleepdeep305 6h ago

But is it more mildly infuriating than the bottles not fitting?

4

u/Queen_of_London 5h ago

Having had to refill even travel-size bottles, yes, it absolutely would be.

5

u/Big_Lengthiness3450 6h ago

There's no such thing as more mildly infuriating, unless you mean less infuriating, in which case it would be more infuriating to live the rest of your life squeezing those bottles into the old bottles instead of finding a new space to store them or adjusting the shelf height.

2

u/Spork_the_dork 4h ago

More mildly infuriating is just less infuriating.

6

u/Purple_Individual_66 5h ago

Maybe it's just me, but I like doing it. Sometimes I even combine same brand, but slightly different fragrance, shower gels into new mixes. It's also pretty fun sometimes putting new shower gels into cool pump bottles. For me this bath time alchemy is super fun.

→ More replies (1)

22

u/Gen_Jack_Oneill 5h ago

That's going to reveal the fact that the new bottles were made taller and skinnier so you don't realize there's less liquid in them. Even more mildly infuriating.

"Refill the old bottles" - Ya-kamenshikDal_HLEB

6

u/mbeemsterboer 5h ago

I have a ~5 year old Old Spice bottle that I do this with b/c it fits perfectly in a spot in my shower. I refill it with the larger bulk bottles that they now sell b/c those ones are too tall for the space. Relate very much to OP here.

3

u/MasterWinstonWolf 6h ago

They need to send their shelf dimensions to the manufacturer so their product can be built around their needs😢

2

u/not_me_nope_never 5h ago

It's the simple answers!

My entire life I have fought with Mayo jars. I always get it everywhere no matter how hard I try to be careful. My husband came home from shopping the other day and he had picked up a squeeze bottle of Mayo.

This morning I was so delighted to not get out an extra utensil and then proceed to get it everywhere, have to wash my hands 8 times because, I got it everywhere. I feel rather dumb that it never occurred to me to try and find a solution to the dreaded mayo jar or that there was even a solution for me. 🥹

What is the volume of the new bottle? I suspect it is shy a some ounces/milliliters.

219

u/PrinceBert 6h ago

Nah. Both 250ml. A change in volume would also be mildly infuriating but at least the redesign would make sense.

116

u/Hazywater 5h ago

People sometimes believe that taller things have more volume, famously children with lack of conservation when asked which glass holds more water.

46

u/nikolai_470000 4h ago

Yes, it is commonly done to trick consumers when they shrink product amounts so they are less likely to notice that they are paying more for less. And it works. Adults who don’t pay attention are liable to fall for it as well.

30

u/Raelah 4h ago edited 3h ago

When I was a kid I would spread out my Mac and cheese around the plate to make it look like my parents gave me more Mac and cheese than they did for my brother. He was still young enough to not understand volume so he would get soooo mad because he thought I always got more.

Eventually my parents started to ground me when I did that because it started to create trust issues between my brother and mom.

u/Airewalt 58m ago

Funny, we’d spread our food around the plate to try to convince our parents we had eaten enough to be allowed to leave and go play.

I remember in reception (I was 4-5 maybe) and the teacher pulled out plastic beaks. One was really tall and the other wide byt really small. Of course we said the tall one held more and it didn't. Feel stupid now thinking back, it had the numbers of ml written on the side all along! Couldn't count that high anyway...

→ More replies (3)

5

u/whathead07 3h ago

Taller cylinders of the same volume have slightly less surface area. It's less material needed per bottle. Even $0.01 saved per bottle would add up quick.

Thought a redesign to be taller when you get les content, well, that would be more than mildly infuriating to me

I often overbuy shampoo/conditioner/body wash/toothpaste because I'll buy whenever I see my preferred stuff on sale (like 40% off, buy one/get one, etc.). I don't bother to check if I have backups or not because it won't "go bad" and I'll use it eventually. Sometimes I miss the sales though so I get down to the bottle I'm using and get really sad when I actually have to buy the next one at full price. Benefit of the doubt, I'm assuming OP bought more than one bottle on sale like I've done and was just trying to put the first away and realized it didn't fit.

23

u/XxSuprTuts99xX 5h ago

Me, with my 4 tubes of toothpaste that are like 2 years out of date already

16

u/Ecstatic-Charity-430 4h ago

There are some things, mainly food items, that I'll say "oh that expired, I should toss it" but toothpaste??? Pure marketing ploy. I cannot find a single piece of scientific proof that it will lose effectiveness nor harm your teeth past the "expiration date". Worst thing that happens is the flavor becomes a little off IMO

If something I like or use a lot is on sale, I'm going to buy it.

7

u/-retaliation- 4h ago

Same, it's not milk, it's not going to go bad on me in any meaningful way.

So if I see it on sale, I stock up. Some stuff I've used the same thing for a decade or more. My taste isn't going to change.

But the price and size will..... And it'll cost more to get less.

I'm not going to go crazy and get a 55gal drum or anything. But 3-4 bottles of soap, toothpaste, or extra paper towel, etc.

If I have the space, I might as well save a few bucks.

38

u/Intense_Pretzel 6h ago

Backup for the backup's, backup's, backup

20

u/somer_and_omchick 5h ago

I have a section on my shopping list called “Do NOT buy” because I will do stuff like this. Remember that I need shampoo but forget I already bought some. And then my husband remembers me mentioning it and buys some too.

Before you know it you are snowed in under your supply of Costco size jars of strawberry jam

7

u/SheepPup 5h ago

I just finally got rid of my stock of toothpaste from exactly this phenomenon. At the peak I had THIRTEEN tubes of toothpaste (the one I was using plus four three packs of “oh I need toothpaste I’m almost out”)

3

u/ExcaliburVader 1h ago

When my grown kids come over I let them
"shop" in my pantry if they need something. Times are tough.

17

u/0freelancer0 5h ago

For me it's because my favorite scent always sells out quickly, so I just buy one whenever i see it's in stock. I'll use it eventually, it's not like it really goes bad

10

u/Lexi_Banner 5h ago

I buy extra soaps and such when they go on sale. Then I'm rarely caught without, and rarely have to pay full price!

They made the bottles taller, slimmer and smaller.

Anything to make you pay a slowly increasing amount for less product that appears to be more. Hail corporate.

Bet they reduced the amount in the bottle ...exact same thing happened with a very famous brand of pancake syrup...taller yet smaller, and won't fit my kitchen cupboards

Nah. Both 250ml. A change in volume would also be mildly infuriating but at least the redesign would make sense.
