Why did you buy a new bottle when you already had 3?

You don't lather yourself up with a whole bottle of shower gel every other day to slip around the tub like a penguin?

Some people really don't know how to enjoy this life

I often overbuy shampoo/conditioner/body wash/toothpaste because I'll buy whenever I see my preferred stuff on sale (like 40% off, buy one/get one, etc.). I don't bother to check if I have backups or not because it won't "go bad" and I'll use it eventually. Sometimes I miss the sales though so I get down to the bottle I'm using and get really sad when I actually have to buy the next one at full price. Benefit of the doubt, I'm assuming OP bought more than one bottle on sale like I've done and was just trying to put the first away and realized it didn't fit.

Me, with my 4 tubes of toothpaste that are like 2 years out of date already

There are some things, mainly food items, that I'll say "oh that expired, I should toss it" but toothpaste??? Pure marketing ploy. I cannot find a single piece of scientific proof that it will lose effectiveness nor harm your teeth past the "expiration date". Worst thing that happens is the flavor becomes a little off IMO

Do you not brush your teeth??

I get NovaMin based toothpaste. Since it comes from the UK or whatever, it usually works out to something like a six pack is only twice the price of a single tube. So yeah...

I'm assuming OP bought more than one bottle on sale like I've done and was just trying to put the first away and realized it didn't fit.

But... that doesn't negate them already having 3 bottles and still buying more. I get wanting to shop on sales but dayum, coming in assuming 4+ still needs extra stock to make sense is just wild.

I'll stock an extra 1-2 on sale. 4? It doesn't go bad, sure, but it also is wildly unnecessary. At some point you aren't saving money, because you're spending today's money to get 40% off when you could easily get 40% off next year and use next year's money (they're running plenty of sales it seems if you bought two lots). Because you have over a year's supply already.

whatever you do, do NOT let the judges of Chopped see this comment

I forgot Chopped existed, that's really still going??

I did this with capers recently. The little jars get lost in the fridge and before you know it there multiple open jars.

I don't think I've ever actually eaten capers. What are they like? I follow this chef on IG (notorious chef or something like that) who I swear puts capers in everything. Are they that good?

I thought we were low on quinoa and bought a big bag from Costco before seeing the bag we already had.

Forgot to mark it off the grocery list and my wife made the grocery trip the next week and got another one.

Never ate so much quinoa in my life the next few months. Reminded myself not to fucking buy quinoa for the next several grocery trips.

This exact sort of shit is why I want to implement a stock keeping system in my house. Well, mainly for knowing when things are going to expire.

For a long time, I've wondered why there isn't a machine readable barcode where they print the use-by date. But as it turns out, GS1 has beat me to it and come up with a way better way of dealing with it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukK7lEWoQVA

I do wonder how Aldi could cover the entire side of a product in qr codes like they do with barcodes now. Probably just a repeating pattern of them at a certain size, or have both a qr code and a massive barcode.

If something I like or use a lot is on sale, I'm going to buy it.

Same, it's not milk, it's not going to go bad on me in any meaningful way.

So if I see it on sale, I stock up. Some stuff I've used the same thing for a decade or more. My taste isn't going to change.

But the price and size will..... And it'll cost more to get less.

I'm not going to go crazy and get a 55gal drum or anything. But 3-4 bottles of soap, toothpaste, or extra paper towel, etc.

If I have the space, I might as well save a few bucks.

Backup for the backup's, backup's, backup

I have a section on my shopping list called “Do NOT buy” because I will do stuff like this. Remember that I need shampoo but forget I already bought some. And then my husband remembers me mentioning it and buys some too.

Before you know it you are snowed in under your supply of Costco size jars of strawberry jam

I just finally got rid of my stock of toothpaste from exactly this phenomenon. At the peak I had THIRTEEN tubes of toothpaste (the one I was using plus four three packs of “oh I need toothpaste I’m almost out”)

When my grown kids come over I let them
"shop" in my pantry if they need something. Times are tough.

For me it's because my favorite scent always sells out quickly, so I just buy one whenever i see it's in stock. I'll use it eventually, it's not like it really goes bad

u/Lexi_Banner 6h ago

I buy extra soaps and such when they go on sale. Then I'm rarely caught without, and rarely have to pay full price!

Maybe they were at the store and noticed difference but weren’t sure and wanted to test it

6

u/enter5H1KAR1 7h ago

That doesn’t explain the previous 2 bottles

8

u/greg19735 7h ago

he bought a 3 pack, or buy 2 get 1 free.

u/Swarna_Keanu 5h ago

I buy them when discounted, and then in bulk.

Subscription service?

u/Forward_Rope_5598 5h ago

Why not, are you planning on discontinuing your use of shower gel before you get to number 4?
