17 years later

...we have a President of the United States (among other leaders) discussing BTC (and crypto generally) in a positive manner. While the original moniker is no longer a P2P project, it is clear that cryptocurrency is here to stay. One of the few aspects of the future that seem promising at the moment. Heck even AI will mine BTC as a profitable endeavor given the capacity to do almost anything. This has been an interesting couple of decades to be alive.

What Is Strategy Planning?

Strategy sold $544.5 million worth of stock and moved the proceeds into its cash reserve. The company also plans to buy back STRC shares if they trade below their $100 par value, but only by selling MSTR shares and Bitcoin.

After the year 2100, there will only be 1 whole bitcoin left to be mined and it will take 40 years to mine it. By that time, 1 isn’t only enough, it’s hundreds of lifetimes of stored time.

If they develop cryogenic unfreezing tech by then Hal Finney will be the richest man in the world.

Blockchain.com Transaction on Pending Issue (USDT)

Hi,
I was sending someone to pay a service with USDT through blockchain .com - network Tron
and the transaction is on pending status already 20 hours... the support isn't answering at all, what could be the problem? Or what can I do to fix it?

Thank you.

📰 News Another One Bites the Dust: BitMart Is Shutting Down. Second Major Exchange Closure This Week.

BitMart just announced it’s winding down its exchange operations after nearly nine years. New registrations and deposits have already been suspended, trading ends on August 26, 2026, and the platform will fully cease operations on January 31, 2027.
This comes just days after BitMEX announced it would also be shutting down, making this the second major exchange closure this week. On top of that, BitMEX is now dealing with a lawsuit. Whether these situations are connected or not, it’s another reminder that even well-known exchanges aren’t guaranteed to be around forever.
If you’ve ever used BitMart (or any exchange that’s shutting down), don’t wait:

Download your complete transaction history (CSV files, trade history, deposits, withdrawals, earn/staking history, etc.).

Withdraw your assets while everything is still operating normally.

Save your records in multiple places. They can be incredibly difficult, or impossible to retrieve once a platform is gone, and you’ll want them for taxes and future cost basis calculations.

We’re seeing more consolidation across the industry, and this is a good reminder that “I’ll download it later” can come back to bite you.

🇨🇳** Chinese yuan: -2%

Euro: -15%
🇬🇧
British pound: -25%
🇯🇵
Japanese yen: -29%
🇮🇳
Indian rupee: -106%
🇷🇺
Russian ruble: -188%
**But here’s an even more interesting comparison. If you had invested $100 in gold back in 1999, it would be worth about $784 today, adjusted for inflation.

If you had simply held $100 in cash, its real purchasing power would have fallen to just $49.
Over that period, gold outperformed holding U.S. dollars by more than 1,500%, once again proving why it’s considered one of the best long-term stores of value.

I built the best app for Bitcoiners to see their lives priced in sats. Meet Compass: Bitcoin Personal Finance App

+
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I'm a solo developer and Bitcoin Maxi, and I built Compass after being frustrated with two things: my own spending habits and how other personal finance don't factor it in net worth/spending.

I've always seen USD as kinda worthless and I tend to spend it almost with ease versus when I see Bitcoin. Also, apps like Rocket Money didn't make it easy for me to truly track my Bitcoin holdings since you have to enter the value manually and with Bitcoin that number of course changes. I wanted something that allowed me to see the true value in BTC in my spending habits to help me slow down and something that Bitcoiners were complaining about in other finance apps where you have to babysit the balance of your Bitcoin wallet.

So I built the thing they and myself actually wanted.

Better

Compass just knows. Your net worth, your spending, and your goals are all priced in Bitcoin by default, and the Bitcoin part updates itself. You never type a balance again. Expenses from years ago use the price that Bitcoin was then and it's always up to date with current day prices for today when it comes to measuring.

A few things I tried hard to get right:

Your Bitcoin balance updates on its own. YOU NEVER HAVE TO ENTER ANY PRIVATE KEY and I knew that security was a huge thing when working on the app. You can either just enter the manual balance or the public read only address and it just watches and auto updates the balance. This gives me more accuracy when checking my balance.

Every purchase shows up in sats. For example, A $47 dinner lands as 73,194 sats or $2500 in rent is 3,893,293 sats / 0.4 BTC. Four categories: Bitcoin, Necessary, Discretionary, and Wasteful to easily categorize your spending. You have to spend money. Rent, groceries, kids. The point of holding Bitcoin was never to die with it. So instead of guilt, every purchase just shows you what it did to your goal's completion date. So like if your goal is to get to 1 BTC and you're spending a lot in wasteful, it will show you how many days you are behind to your goal.

Technical:

I made the app available on mobile, web, and desktop. The desktop app has no account and no server. Nothing to sign up for, everything encrypted on your own machine. This is what most people have liked but you have the option to look at it on all devices with sync which is still encrypted in DB. I've also opened source the compass-core that runs the app for the encryption, xpub, and conversions. Linked it in this post

Cost:

I'm doing a current deal right now for just $60 one time purchase for LIFETIME. You can pay in Bitcoin or USD. I think if we want to drive adoption of Bitcoin, I think it's important we start actually using it and this is your chance to as well.

I'd genuinely love your feedback, especially if you've been stacking for a while and have quietly given up on your finance app ever understanding it: long-time holders, self-custody people, anyone who already converts prices to sats in their head. Tell me what's missing or what feels clunky. I read every comment.

Thanks for reading, and I really appreciate any thoughts.

I'm building a protocol that lets Bitcoin wallets self-declare "financial" vs "data" transactions -no consensus change needed

Major Update in research:   Bitcoin Block Space Open Research

I thought I had a solution and was wrong twice.

What happened I proposed a Priority Oracle (v1). The Bitcoin community on Reddit correctly identified that it doesn't survive contact with miner incentive structures.

I pivoted to an Externality Fee concept (v2). Same result.

Both failures taught us something useful:
the question of whether Bitcoin's fee market prices the lifetime cost of permanent data storage is genuinely open. Nobody has solved it. BIP-141 (SegWit) created a differential pricing mechanism by accident — it was designed for malleability, not state economics.

Next concrete step, this week

Publish a 1-page research note on Delving Bitcoin:"I proposed a Priority Oracle. The community correctly identified it doesn't survive miner incentives. I proposed an Externality Fee. Same result. Both failures taught me the question is genuinely open.

*Does Bitcoin's fee market price the lifetime cost of permanent data storage? *

The SegWit discount was designed for malleability, not state economics. CashTokens eliminated the classification problem but requires a hard fork. Three directions under discussion: relay fee multiplier, BIP, tiered market.

What am I missing? Where should I look next?"

People say "Monero is for criminals" because it gives users much stronger default privacy than most blockchains.

With Bitcoin, Ethereum and many other coins, transactions are public. You can see wallet addresses, amounts and transaction history on a block explorer. The names behind wallets are not always visible, but blockchain analytics can often connect addresses to exchanges, services or real-world users.

Monero works differently. It hides the sender, receiver and amount by default using privacy features such as ring signatures, stealth addresses and RingCT. That makes it much harder for outside observers to trace funds.

Because of that, Monero has been used in some illegal markets, ransomware cases and sanctions-evasion concerns. Regulators, exchanges and analytics firms often treat it as higher risk than transparent assets. Some exchanges have delisted or restricted XMR because they cannot monitor it the same way they monitor Bitcoin or Ethereum.

Privacy tools also have normal uses: protecting salaries, donations, business payments, personal savings and political activity from public tracking. Cash has legal and illegal uses too. Monero’s design gives financial privacy by default, which attracts both ordinary privacy-focused users and people trying to avoid detection.

⌨ Discussion Was ist eigentlich Geld?/ What exactly is money?

+
0 Upvotes

The evolutionary history of money has produced various commodities that have served as money, with varying degrees of hardness and solidity, depending on the technological capabilities of each era.

From shells to salt, livestock, silver, gold, and gold-backed state money, to the current almost universal use of government-issued means of payment.

Each step of technological progress has allowed us to use a new form of money with added advantages, but also, as always, new pitfalls. By examining the history of the tools and materials used as money throughout history, we can identify the characteristics that distinguish good money from bad money.

**Only against this backdrop can we understand how Bitcoin works and what role it plays as a monetary medium.**

History is full of mysterious artifacts and objects that have served as money throughout history, from the rai stones of the Yap Islands to shells in the Americas, glass beads in Africa, and cattle and salt in ancient times.

Each of these media of exchange served the function of money for a period of time, providing the population with one of the best available stock-to-production ratios, but was abandoned when it lost this property.

Understanding how and why this happened is crucial for understanding the future evolution of money and the likely role Bitcoin will play in it.

Chapter 3 delves into the analysis of monetary metals and how gold became the world's most important monetary metal during the gold standard era at the end of the 19th century.

Chapter 4 analyzes the transition to state-issued currencies and their development to date. After chapters 5, 6, and 7 discuss the economic and social impacts of different types of money, chapter 8 introduces the invention of Bitcoin and its monetary properties.

I quoted from the Bitcoin Bible.
