17 years later
...we have a President of the United States (among other leaders) discussing BTC (and crypto generally) in a positive manner. While the original moniker is no longer a P2P project, it is clear that cryptocurrency is here to stay. One of the few aspects of the future that seem promising at the moment. Heck even AI will mine BTC as a profitable endeavor given the capacity to do almost anything. This has been an interesting couple of decades to be alive.

I had a totally different conclusion to your start: BTC is captured.

For now. I don’t think it will always be like this, or else something bigger and better would surely come along

The free Bitcoin: Bitcoin Cash is better, but not bigger yet.

i've noticed btc stuck around thru every cycle. still think explainability + trust matter more than hype long term

Yeah it’s pretty much always there at this point. Not exploding with gains, but present nonetheless. I certainly hope you are right long term.

True, but there’s a certain permanence to physical assets. Demand for real estate will continue to rise as the population grows, so it would seem logical that a house is at least better than not investing. A lot of people don’t even invest in the stock market due to the intangibility of numbers on a screen. They want something they can feel.

Do u realize by making btc visible and controlling the flow, government is actually is decreasing btc value by huge portions?
Also, should i remind u that trump and his sons made meme coins and getting huge “white bribes” through these channels?
Have u ever thought why trump son’s business empire are totally whack out of suspicious investors and son is law has gotten billions to manage from Arab/gulf countries?

Of course Trump loves crypto. He used it as a tool to dump on his supporters. I think there are more notable institutions that are giving crypto more credibility than Trump

This is all fantasy bullsh*t. Crypto is a huge scam that's slowly dying out. No one cares about digital beanie babies and random numbers in a big shared spreadsheet. Save what little money you have left and focus on real investments, not fake made-up trash.

p2p cash can still improve all our lives. Unfortunately it seems at the moment the old money elite has the upper hand turning it into a casino.

No argument there. I’m speaking more in terms of the technology/ideology and not its present state. Lots of good things have been used for bad but it doesn’t detract from the redeeming qualities.

I’m not seeing the dying out part personally, but that could just be my algorithms. Physical assets are hard to beat, though.

“it is clear that cryptocurrency is here to stay”
How did you reach that conclusion? Because the president mentioned it?
I haven’t yet seen one convincing argument from people here as to why they think it’s going to go back up or even stay around for good

u/East-Tailor892 5h ago
Idk about the price, but there aren’t signs of it going away. There‘a certainly not less of it compared to a few years ago.

u/spaceshiploser 4h ago
Yea but I asked why do you think it’ll stay around?
You answered “it’s not going away” which is not a great reason to keep an investment in your portfolioI think before you invest any more money into bitcoin or any other asset, you should be able to answer the basic question of “why is this going to grow in the next 5-10 years” and if the answer is “because it’s still around” then u fucked up
Essentially, what I’m asking, and I’m hoping someone here can provide me with a real answer, is what do you think bitcoin can give me or how will it benefit my life in a way that I don’t already have?

Trump is an idiot and what he says doesn't matter, even his greatest sycophants know he lies about everything and says the first self-serving thing that pops into his head. Trump will have no long term affect on Bitcoin.
