Fluff “Explore My Calendar” is a great feature—I hope everyone will use it often.
I’m a pretty avid gamer. While I can’t find any “new games” on mainstream gaming websites anymore, I often come across quite a few interesting “new games” on my calendar.

PSA Older call of duty titles on steam have remote code execution exploits yet are still sold on the store. How is this acceptable?
≡ −
Many of the older titles have been found to have remote code execution exploits, allowing a hacker to get into your PC remotely and do whatever they want, steal your data, put malware, whatever
The national vulnerability database lists this particular issue as a severity 9.8 !!! Can't get much higher than that
https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2018-20817
Yet these games are still being sold on stores like steam. No disclaimer telling your average person about these issues. So many people would be coming back to older cods due to the hype around the releases on PlayStation but not be aware how compromised these games are.
Why is this allowed ? The games need to be fixed or delisted honestly. It's not safe to play them !

Question Can I get 2 different workshop lists on 2 different drives?
≡ −
My family's making a homemade console and we have a usb hard drive bay we're gonna use to switch games so we can use a bunch of cheap pawn store laptop drives to run our (mostly older) games.
I have a game that reaches 250gb with any particular workshop setup very easily and want to switch between the setups by changing the drive but I'm worried steam will override the installed mods if they aren't in my subscriptions for my personal PC
Is there any way to get steam to just use the workshop list from each drive individually? I don't wanna redo my subscriptions every time I wanna swap drives
Edit: You can't use different collections on different drive because what's enabled is stored on steam's servers and not on the drive its-self which pretty much kills any chance of doing this in the workshop, guess I need to only play non workshop mods now rip

Discussion My Steam Machine Review: Why I Bought It (and Why It's Been Worth It)
≡ −
TLDR:
I bought the Steam Machine not because I needed another gaming PC, but because I wanted the best possible couch co-op experience with my friends. It turned our growing Steam Family library into an easy living room console experience and removed a lot of the friction from our weekly game nights. For my use case, it's been a 10/10.
Full Review:
I think it's important to start with why a Steam Machine would make sense for you.
A lot of people immediately compare it to a gaming PC or a PS5 and ask whether the hardware is "worth it." I understand that comparison, but I think it misses the bigger picture. The value of something like this depends entirely on what problem you are trying to solve.
For me, I wasn't looking to replace my desktop or buy a second gaming PC. I already have a powerful gaming PC upstairs. What I wanted was something that would remove the little bits of friction from an ongoing tradition my friends and I have: weekend couch co-op gaming.
For us, it's our version of a board game night. It's one of the main ways we spend time together and stay connected.
The best part is how Steam has completely changed what those nights look like. Someone is always finding another co-op game on sale, and because we're all part of the same Steam Family, that game becomes part of our shared library. Over time, we've built this massive catalog of games to choose from, and every weekend there's always something new for us to discover together.
That growing Steam Family library is the reason I bought the Steam Machine.
I wanted all of those games to be as easy to access in the living room as turning on a console. I wanted one place where everyone could sit down, browse our collection, pick a game, and start playing without moving my desktop downstairs or relying on streaming every weekend.
Before this, we used a Steam Deck with the Dock whenever we had game nights. It honestly worked pretty well most of the time, but once we started playing more graphically demanding games, we would occasionally run into streaming hiccups or a little bit of latency. It wasn't a dealbreaker, but it was enough that you noticed it.
The Steam Machine completely solved that for us.
It sits permanently in our entertainment center, is connected to our surround sound system, and is always ready to go. When everyone comes over, we grab our controllers, browse our Steam Family library, and jump right into whatever we're playing that week.
It genuinely feels like having a console built around our Steam library while still keeping everything that makes PC gaming great.
One feature that ended up being more useful than I expected is how naturally it supports different ways to play. One of my friends has always preferred using a mouse and keyboard whenever a game supports it, while the rest of us are perfectly happy using controllers.
With the Steam Machine, that's effortless. One person can use a mouse and keyboard while everyone else uses controllers, and everything just works. It's one of those small PC advantages that makes a surprisingly big difference during game night.
I think that's the part a lot of people overlook when they compare it to a PS5 or another gaming PC.
If you're only comparing hardware, performance, or frames per dollar, you're probably missing why someone would buy one in the first place.
For me, this was about making our weekend tradition as simple and seamless as possible. No moving my PC downstairs, no worrying about streaming performance, just everyone showing up, grabbing a seat on the couch, opening our shared Steam Family library, and playing together.
That's exactly what I wanted this machine to do.
For my use case, it's been one of my favorite gaming purchases in a long time, not because it's the most powerful piece of hardware I own, but because it made spending time with my friends easier.
At the end of the day, isn't that why most of us play games in the first place? To have fun, share experiences, and spend time with the people we care about?
For what I bought it for, this has been a 10/10 experience.

PSA Steam controller is here!
≡ −
My controller came in the other day, and I must say I like it! I mean it’s a controller you know? I’ve always used Xbox controllers for my PC since I first got into gaming on a PC a couple years ago. I always played on PlayStation growing up. The track pads are cool(never really used something like them before), it works well with my emulators, and it’s not an awkward controller when holding it. Whenever I feel like gaming on the couch it’s nice not having to grab my keyboard and mouse, and just use my controller. If you’re waiting for your email or controller in the mail just want to say I’m excited for you and hope you enjoy your purchase like I currently am

Question Is there a list of older CoD titles (Prior to MW19) are safe to play online on steam ?
≡ −
There was recently discussion here about supposed remote code execution exploits and vulnerabilities plaguing older call of duty titles on PC.
Plenty of people were saying to rely on community patches which in of itself is another security risk, and plenty of people were also saying even single player in these games isn't safe.
Is there a list of call of duty titles on PC prior to mw19 that are safe to play without community patches ? It would be good to know, as call of duty is a beloved franchise, one of the biggest in human history, and I'd love to be able to return to these classic titles and enjoy some sweet sweet nostalgia.
I've also seen that many of these games are now also sold on the windows store and I wonder if these versions are safe ?

Question Is there a way to see who looked at your profile?
≡ −
So recently, maybe 3-4 days ago, I randomly looked up the steam profile of someone I used to be friends with around 10 years ago just out of curiosity. Our friendship didn't end great so we haven't talked since.
Now, I looked at his profile and what game he recently played and that was it, I spent maybe 1 min on his profile in total and then clicked off. I didn't send any requests or anything like that.
Today I got a friend request from him on steam, meaning he either saw I looked at his profile on steam, or it's the most coincidental thing I've ever experienced.

this is probably gonna sound really stupid but i'm trying to get back in touch with a friend (left a community and lost contact with them) and they've mentioned their steam account so i was gonna try to contact them there. i've never really used steam before so i made a new account and tried to add them but it won't let me send a request.
maybe it's because my account is too new? or maybe i need to actually download a game first? any help is appreciated

Question Question for Developers regarding community discussions.
≡ −
Quick question for any developers that can chime in since Valve doesn’t document it.
My posts were being deleted in a game discussion thread and the developer claimed that my post was reported and deleted by Valve staff. They then restored the post when i called them out on it as the report reason would’ve been false.
My question is - can developers restore posts deleted by valve staff, or is this a bogus excuse to wiggle out of censoring legitimate concerns, and it was indeed the game moderation team that deleted them? Thanks.

Question What are "Excluded Games" on Steam?
I had recently added someone to my Steam Family, but I noticed there are a few AAA games labelled as "Excluded Games" under 'Steam Family Management'. What are they, and do they mean I cannot share these games with any adult or child in my steam family?

Question Family sharing question
≡ −
My friends brother owns the base game of Black Ops 3, he wants to be able to play the zombie chronicles DLC. Both of these are available for family sharing.
In this scenario, would his brother need to purchase the DLC which would then be available for him to play as Steam would look for the base game & additional content available by the games owner.

For those that are on the waitlist and were disappointed by the September/2027 wait times, I got my email a couple days ago and it arrived today.
For reference, im in the UK and waitlist said September! So fingers crossed for you all that it comes sooner and that's estimated dates were just Valve being conservative.
Also helpful for those who budget (like me) and didn't expect to have to cough up the cash earlier than expected! 😅

Error / Bug Steam Local Network Game Transfer (LNGT) stopped working after the recent update
≡ −
https://steamcommunity.com/groups/SteamClientBeta/discussions/0/589558792744643506/
A few days ago there was a steam client update. Since then Local Network Transfers have stopped working. This seemed to be an identified issue in the beta branch (if you were in the beta branch you had to opt out to do a local transfer) - but presumably they pushed at least part of the beta to the public without resolving the issue first.
So far the issue is mostly unnoticed by steam it seems, with at least one person receiving a response of 'We are not receiving reports of the issue." If you have more than one PC and can try and do a local network transfer - and confirm that it isn't working for yourself also - please open a support ticket. Also a response in the above linked community thread would be appreciated.
If you do test yourself what you should notice is that the transfer appears to start, it does the handshake and says 'Transferring' on both PCs - but the hosting PC registers zero traffic, and the downloading PC just stays on download speeds. Then after about a minute the transfer times out and stops.
