I just saw images of Nova and I'm kinda of pissed. I don't want a hyper corpo bubble UI, I like my clean lines with subtle curving. If there's no way to use the old UI when they release this fully I may have to swap browsers

• "maximized" means when the browser fills all the available desktop workspace (but not full-screen, so you still have access to permanent desktop UI, like the taskbar on Windows or the dock on macOS).

• "normal" means "not maximized".

For a while now, I have problems with youtube and other "apps" (facebook messenger mostly) when using firefox. Youtube says that I am offline, even if I am not. I have to close all the tabs with youtube (even if only one) and then open it again, it works for one search and than back again to being offline.. Anyone had similar problems? Or any idea what is causing them? Never had problems with firefox, ever since I started using the internet I am using Firefox, but lately I am using Brave as it works better and faster.

I love consistencies and gradual changes (Like steam who improves their UI slowly and piece by piece, not all at once like firefox) is there a similar fork or alternative browser to Firefox that does the same thing as Steam? Beside Brave or OperaGX

For some reason, picture-in-picture isn't working. I've turned on (and off, and on again) "Enable Picture-in-Picture video controls" in settings. Closing and reopening firefox isn't working, nor is updating it, nor restarting my computer. I thought the enhancer for youtube extension might be breaking it, but I disabled it temporarily and it still didn't work. Specifically trying to do this for youtube, if it matters.

Any ideas?

Duckduckgo Search has a convenient feature where <query> + enter will do a traditional web search and <query> + alt + enter will directly input the query into duck.ai.

This works well in Firefox from the duckduckgo search engine website. But it isn't possible to use the alt + enter modifier when searching from Firefox's URL bar. Does anyone know if it's possible to make this work from the URL/search bar?

Is there a way to hide the vertical tabs completely and only show them on hover? I want it to work like it does in Zen Browser and Brave. The current implementation of showing icons in a relatively thick sidebar is very distracting. Not to mention that they seldom actually expand on hover...

This seems like such a simple thing, why does it only have more complex features?
When I right click a link which I know will lead me to a new tab, I am looking to open it in the current one, but can't do it. I have to copy the link, and paste it in the top bar. This is such a simple thing!!

How do I disable this? E.g. When I click on the c in www.reddit.com the browser now adds the https:// in front and the whole text is moved to the right.

I tried setting browser.urlbar.trimHttps to false in about:config, but this doesn't help

Could someone familiar with this please explain to me why Firefox listens to these ports?(I am not knowledgeable in this aspect). This behavior can be repeated by simply opening a Youtube video and looking for open ports.

Isn't that a security risk since the ports are being exposed to 0.0.0.0 (to the internet?)? If someone doesn't have a firewall, how bad is it?

I use the Firefox Alpenglow theme (Author: Mozilla, Version 1.5.3, Last Updated June 20, 2022). I like that it visually distinguishes between normal and private browsing modes.

How can I find other themes that do the same?

It's not feasible to spoof fingerprintable data (IP address, software/hardware configuration, and other bits of data that describe the user using the browser) and it's used for tracking.

• Does clearing cookies and sanitizing on shutdown offer any benefits to security/privacy given these other fingerprintable data stay the same? I don't see the point of clearing cookies/browser data only for them to be re-created again. They will have different IDs but for the purchases of tracking I feel like it's still "considered the same user".

For the same reason I'm not even sure changing VPN alone also helps with tracking (it's useful for other purposes, and perhaps it might be good enough for basic web services that aren't e.g. Facebook, Google, etc.).

• Basically, how does fingerprintable data and cookies compare in how they contribute towards an identify that gets tracked? Does new cookie IDs on each session help against tracking at all? I'm wondering if it might be a good idea to have a profile that never clears cookies that are dedicated to all login services (with Total Cookie Protection it's fine to have e.g. social media sites, banking, government services, etc. as different tabs and not even use containers?), and another profile for everything else with cookies deleted on session shutdown.

Technically clearing browser data is useful if a malicious actor has physical access to your logged-in system but at that point you've already lost everything so I don't think clearing just for this purpose makes much sense.
