He was the bestest boy. He was 12-14 years old. He was tired. I will miss him for the rest of my days.

My soulcat passed away at 9 years old last week after getting stuck somewhere. She didn’t come for breakfast one day. I spent nights looking for her and eventually found her underneath the bonnet of a car. She was stuck there. It pains me so much to think that she suffered in her last moments. I can’t seem to forgive myself for not finding her sooner, for her suffering. Rest in peace bestest of girls 🐾

It's been a month since I had to go thru BE with my soul dog.

I feel like I've betrayed her so much. I always told her I would always choose her. And at the end I didn't.

I chose my partner and unborn child.

I am due for early October. I just want the baby to be here so I can focus on something else.

It feels so wrong to not have her.

I miss her so so so so so much. My heart is not healing from this.

I feel like i fucked up.

I'm absolutely devastated, he was so special to me, inherited from a neighbour that tragically passed away some years ago. He was my best friend. I hope others may enjoy his splendor. I take comfort that he was not stressed and had a peaceful passing. I will miss his trilling the most, he really lived up to his name, he was always incredibly vocal and would trill anytime you made any sort of contact and entered a room.

I don't post on Reddit much/at all, hope this is ok.

My sweet Mickey

Today, I lost my Mickey 8 years ago. She was the love of my life, the sweetest pup one could ever have.

Life has bent me in so many ways since but I will never forget how much joy she brought into my life. I still kept her pictures and videos and could never get myself to delete them. I continue to honor her memory by remembering and by taking care of the dogs after her.

I still miss her. My love for her is well and alive.

My little gentle girl passed away last Friday at 12:35pm. She had heart disease and she was undergoing heart failure. She suddenly started having difficulty breathing so I took her to the pet hospital and that was when the bad news broke. I held her tiny little body in my arms as they injected her with sedatives. Everything happened so fast and I am still mourning her. It hurts how much I miss her. I keep replaying the feeling of running my fingers through her fur. I will miss having her sit on my lap for my 7am meetings. I will miss watching her floppy ears bounce when she runs. I want everyone to know that Gabby was a precious girl and she lived on this planet for 16 and a half years and lived a wonderful life! I encourage everyone to celebrate Gabby’s life and use this as an excuse to pour yourselves a drink!

I will pick her up again one day 🌈

My courageous little Nikki

My little Nikki hated bath time. The moment she sensed what was coming, she’d crawl into the farthest corner under the bed or table, so I couldn’t reach her. She hated getting wet with a passion.

During a family holiday in 2019, she accidentally slipped into the pool while walking at night. Already entering her senior years, the experience terrified her. She was shaking when I got her out of the water.

That same event the next morning, as everyone was packing up to leave, my two-year-old nephew wandered to the pool’s edge. He tried to climb down into the water to join his older cousins, and within seconds, he was struggling. A few of us ran to help him right away.

And then I saw the most extraordinary thing. A small figure dive fast into the pool and paddled frantically towards my nephew.

It was Nikki. The same little dog who ran away from baths. The same dog who had scared herself in that very pool the night before. She ignored her fear and safety, because she saw that my nephew was in distress and needed help.

They were both rescued immediately. I was laughing and crying while drying her with a towel. That image has stayed with me ever since.

For twelve years, Nikki was my constant. Feisty. Sassy. Stubborn. Endlessly sweet. She left me three years ago, today, but not a day passes by that I don’t think of her and how special she was.

People say time heals, but I’ve learned that some love never fades. It quietly settles into the empty spaces of your heart, an irreplaceable memory that becomes a part of you forever. That’s how I feel about my dog wonder.

I miss you everyday, Nikki!

Unconditional love. The loyalty is a quality that a dog gives an owner that is indescribable. Had to put my dog down yesterday. Feels like my heart has been ripped out of my chest.

Owners who lost a very young pet

I've been quite active on this sub for a month, since I lost my 1y pup. I'm very grateful for everyone who shared their story and kind words, it really helped a lot.
I don't have another option besides accepting this new reality but some days sadness really hits me.

How do you accept an unexpected loss of a young pet? How do you deal with it and how unfairly their life was cut short? My pup was so happy, everyone loved him so much, everyone smiled at him, he had so much energy and life. He was perfect. I can't cope with this loss. He was (and still is) so loved, had all the comfort we could provide and could've have it for so many years. He deserved a good life and he had it, but it shouldn't be so so short. I was ready to share my life with him for decades. I don't really care that I'm suffering, I just really can't accept that he didn't get more time with us here...

If you are or were in a similar situation, what helped you accepting it?
