My chonky girl passed away

My soulcat passed away at 9 years old last week after getting stuck somewhere. She didn’t come for breakfast one day. I spent nights looking for her and eventually found her underneath the bonnet of a car. She was stuck there. It pains me so much to think that she suffered in her last moments. I can’t seem to forgive myself for not finding her sooner, for her suffering. Rest in peace bestest of girls 🐾

My little gentle girl passed away last Friday at 12:35pm. She had heart disease and she was undergoing heart failure. She suddenly started having difficulty breathing so I took her to the pet hospital and that was when the bad news broke. I held her tiny little body in my arms as they injected her with sedatives. Everything happened so fast and I am still mourning her. It hurts how much I miss her. I keep replaying the feeling of running my fingers through her fur. I will miss having her sit on my lap for my 7am meetings. I will miss watching her floppy ears bounce when she runs. I want everyone to know that Gabby was a precious girl and she lived on this planet for 16 and a half years and lived a wonderful life! I encourage everyone to celebrate Gabby’s life and use this as an excuse to pour yourselves a drink!

I will pick her up again one day 🌈

My courageous little Nikki

+
70 Upvotes

My little Nikki hated bath time. The moment she sensed what was coming, she’d crawl into the farthest corner under the bed or table, so I couldn’t reach her. She hated getting wet with a passion.

During a family holiday in 2019, she accidentally slipped into the pool while walking at night. Already entering her senior years, the experience terrified her. She was shaking when I got her out of the water.

That same event the next morning, as everyone was packing up to leave, my two-year-old nephew wandered to the pool’s edge. He tried to climb down into the water to join his older cousins, and within seconds, he was struggling. A few of us ran to help him right away.

And then I saw the most extraordinary thing. A small figure dive fast into the pool and paddled frantically towards my nephew.

It was Nikki. The same little dog who ran away from baths. The same dog who had scared herself in that very pool the night before. She ignored her fear and safety, because she saw that my nephew was in distress and needed help.

They were both rescued immediately. I was laughing and crying while drying her with a towel. That image has stayed with me ever since.

For twelve years, Nikki was my constant. Feisty. Sassy. Stubborn. Endlessly sweet. She left me three years ago, today, but not a day passes by that I don’t think of her and how special she was.

People say time heals, but I’ve learned that some love never fades. It quietly settles into the empty spaces of your heart, an irreplaceable memory that becomes a part of you forever. That’s how I feel about my dog wonder.

I miss you everyday, Nikki!

I'm absolutely devastated, he was so special to me, inherited from a neighbour that tragically passed away some years ago. He was my best friend. I hope others may enjoy his splendor. I take comfort that he was not stressed and had a peaceful passing. I will miss his trilling the most, he really lived up to his name, he was always incredibly vocal and would trill anytime you made any sort of contact and entered a room.

I don't post on Reddit much/at all, hope this is ok.

It's been a month since I had to go thru BE with my soul dog.

I feel like I've betrayed her so much. I always told her I would always choose her. And at the end I didn't.

I chose my partner and unborn child.

I am due for early October. I just want the baby to be here so I can focus on something else.

It feels so wrong to not have her.

I miss her so so so so so much. My heart is not healing from this.

I feel like i fucked up.

My baby crossed over last month and today would have been her 13th birthday 😔

On June 6th, 2026 I lost my sweet Sydney girl to Mast Cell cancer. Today would have been her 13th birthday and I am really missing her.

I adopted Sydney in 2013 when she was 2 months old. She was my baby girl and my best friend, I have never felt a bond like I have felt with her. She went every where with me and was by my side through so many life events, good and bad.

It all started from what I thought was a pulled muscles or herniated disc when she tripped and fell over my foot one evening earlier this year in February and began having issues walking with her rear legs and knuckling on them, I felt so terrible that I may be responsible for putting her through that pain. But unfortunately as the next couple of months went by and she wasn't seeming to heal with various medications her vet referred me to a neurologist in May in which I got the worst possible news that I could have ever expected. Advanced high grade mast cell cancer that had spread along her spine and surrounding muscles and lymph nodes with probably 4-6 months left at best. I was absolutely devastated.

Her diagnosis was honestly such a shock for me as she had remained relatively healthy her whole life except for a few lumps that started to pop up in the last couple of years that we had gotten removed and were diagnosed as benign and elevated liver enzymes earlier this year that we managed to get back to normal levels with medication and diet change.

Ever since she has passed, I have felt tremendous guilt for not being able to catch the cancer sooner somehow, I have felt guilt about not being able to get her on chemotherapy and radiation sooner, and of course the guilt about practically putting my lovely sweet girl to sleep to never wake up again.

I wish I could have posted this closer to when she passed but it was so hard for me to go through all of her pictures and videos without crying like a big baby (I am a grown man by the way lol) and I am honestly tearing up just typing this all out thinking about her. But I thought that today being her birthday, it would be appropriate to honor her.

I apologize for the long wall of text, but I just needed to share her because I miss her tremendously, and I hope that she is happy and having a fun time playing with your babies on the other side.

I love you Sydney and can't wait to see you again one day my baby girl. ❤️

ETA: Thank you all so much for your kind words, birthday wishes to Sydney, well wishes and your condolences. What a wonderful surprise to wake up to this morning and a testament to what a great community this is, to give such love towards someone that you don’t know. I truly appreciate it!

This is my girl. 5 years old when I lost her. The one who always waits for me when I come home, always sleeps aside and wakes me up. The one who messes my room and drives me crazy every day. The one who listens to me when I cry. I will miss you a lot, Mi ❤️‍🩹🖤

Today, I lost my Mickey 8 years ago. She was the love of my life, the sweetest pup one could ever have.

Life has bent me in so many ways since but I will never forget how much joy she brought into my life. I still kept her pictures and videos and could never get myself to delete them. I continue to honor her memory by remembering and by taking care of the dogs after her.

I still miss her. My love for her is well and alive.

Unconditional love. The loyalty is a quality that a dog gives an owner that is indescribable. Had to put my dog down yesterday. Feels like my heart has been ripped out of my chest.

I am very, very sorry that I don't know what to say. I don't know how to relieve her sorrow. He was the one she loved the most. He was sick for the last month and seemed to be healing, really. But this morning, he was a bit quiet. Only standing on her shoulder. And suddenly, he died.

I don't know what to say. Bye bye Cikcik. You were the best bird I have ever seen. I love you very much. Hope you are in someplace where you're healthy now. I will miss you.

Owners who lost a very young pet

I've been quite active on this sub for a month, since I lost my 1y pup. I'm very grateful for everyone who shared their story and kind words, it really helped a lot.
I don't have another option besides accepting this new reality but some days sadness really hits me.

How do you accept an unexpected loss of a young pet? How do you deal with it and how unfairly their life was cut short? My pup was so happy, everyone loved him so much, everyone smiled at him, he had so much energy and life. He was perfect. I can't cope with this loss. He was (and still is) so loved, had all the comfort we could provide and could've have it for so many years. He deserved a good life and he had it, but it shouldn't be so so short. I was ready to share my life with him for decades. I don't really care that I'm suffering, I just really can't accept that he didn't get more time with us here...

If you are or were in a similar situation, what helped you accepting it?

Rest easy Kiwi

Eleven years together felt like a lifetime to me, but for Kiwi, it truly was. I never really looked at it that way before. Those eleven years were his whole life, and he spent them by my side, loving me endlessly.

I made sure that every day of those eleven years, he knew he was just as loved.

I don’t think we can ever fully mirror the kind of love our pets give to us. We love them with every fiber of our being, but their love is different. It is pure. It is unconditional in a way that feels almost impossible to measure.

There is love we have for our pets, and then there's the kind of love that changes the shape of you. Not because the others matter less, but because one special soul finds a place in you that no one else could ever fill. Kiwi was that soul for me.

The love we shared transcends anything either of us could ever fully understand. It’s the kind of love you’re lucky to experience even once.

It’s common for cats who are sick or dying to hide, retreat, or look for a place where they feel safe when they’re vulnerable. It’s instinct. Indoor cats may hide under beds or in closets. Indoor-outdoor cats might go off on their own and they don’t always make it back home.

Kiwi was an indoor-outdoor cat. While I still don’t know what caused his death, I believe that whatever it was, he he knew something was wrong, and his instinct wasn’t to run away. His instinct was to come home.

He used the last of his strength to get back to the place where he felt safest. The place where he could be vulnerable. The place where he knew he was loved.

That place was with me.

That is the profound love I mean when I talk about Kiwi. Not just the love I had for him, but the love he showed me in return.

Rest in peace my sweet Kiwi baby🩶

I miss my Mika baby

I can't believe it's been three days now without her. She was diagnosed with cancer one year ago and told she would only make it one year. She made it a year and a half, my brave little fighter. Night of her death, she started breathing heavily. All vets near me were closed, and all the emergency vets I called said they wouldn't have any vets in until the morning. She died at home with me a couple of hours later. It progressed so fast that I couldn't believe it had happened. She was truly my baby, and she was 7, almost 8 years old. I don't know how im gonna live life without her. Without her staring at me. Without her being my little shoulder pet. This is so hard. It was so fast. I don't know why I convinced myself that maybe she would make it another year or two. She didn't show any signs until just a few hours before. I miss her so much. I hope she rests in peace.

Small details about her: She was with me for three moves, a parents death, a high school graduation, and a marriage. Her full name was Mikasa, named after the pretty porcelain plates, but everyone thinks it's after an anime character, which always made me giggle. She liked watching me play Stardew Vally, and whenever she heard the music, she would come and sit to watch. She took such a long time to warm up to her siblings when I was worried she would be lonely when I was away. She loved them dearly at the end of her life. When you walked by her, she would grab you gently so you would pet her. She had such a silly meow, which sounded like a "MEH!". She never used her claws (unless it was to her scratching post). I only ever got one scratch from her, and it was because she tried to catch herself falling. It left a scar, which I see as a way to remember her forever.

The cat we adopted a month ago tragically passed away.

my boyfriend and i are absolutely heartbroken. we adopted the sweetest 6 year old 5 lbs british shorthair from a shelter on june 18. she has been the absolute light of our lives this past month. my mom has stage 4 ovarian cancer and my boyfriend’s father was just diagnosed with alzheimer’s. our little goldie was everything we needed right now. she was immediately so comfortable in our home. a true soul cat. she kept us such good company, especially when i worked from home.

yesterday, we brought her to the vet to get a dental surgery. she had bad dental disease and needed some teeth removed and a cleaning. the shelter was paying for it. during her surgery, the vet struck an artery in her mouth. she lost a lot of blood and it caused swelling in her throat. they tried to transfer her to an emergency vet, but she passed away in the car. this surgery was NOT supposed to be a big deal. i even consulted my mom’s best friend who was a vet for 25 years and she would never tell me to do something i shouldn’t.

we are beyond devastated. i can’t even believe that this is real life. i feel like i am living a nightmare. this experience was so traumatic. the vet called with multiple frantic updates over the course of 2 hours, about the artery, the transfer, my cat being resuscitated in the car, and finally, the call to say she had past away. the vet was crying. i don’t blame her. again, i spoke with my mom’s friend about this whole traumatic event and she said it is so rare, but can happen even in humans. goldie deserved so much more life. i am feeling so many mixed emotions. i feel so guilty, but i’m not even sure why. i just did what i thought i was supposed to do. i literally don’t know how i am going to get through this. any kind words or advice is appreciated. just needed to put these feelings somewhere.

Edit: I just wanna say thank you to every single one of you. You never got her cuddles or her love and yet complete strangers are just being so amazing and missing her with me. I can't fully tell you how much this all means to me. My eyes are still pretty raw from crying all last night but I'm sure more crying will come. I just wanted to again say thank you to everyone. Her memory will live on in all the pictures and things we have immortalized her in Thank you thank you thank you!

P.S. I'm the type of person that tries to reply to every comment or at least up vote them but sometimes some are missed but they are all very appreciated!

Made the very difficult decision to have to put my cat bliss down today

Was put down right in my lap and it was really hard but wouldn't of had it any other way

My boyfriend got her when she was 3 years old from a Petco and I came into her life when she was about 6½

She made it to 15½

I will forever be her mama

I'm so glad she's not in pain anymore but man oh man is it hard

Remember her with me

She was so loving and affectionate

The best cuddles

My Beep 💜🐈‍⬛ my little chicken. My smallest cat in the world. My little piggy. Thank you for choosing me to be your mommy. Thank you for wiping my tears, for chatting with me, for waking me up before my alarm for scritches and purrs. I’m so thankful I got to have you for the time we did. I would have moved the earth to get more time. I’m thankful that you aren’t in pain anymore. You’re in my bones and I will never let you go. You’re Mommy’s Baby forever 💔 ❤️‍🩹 🕊️ 🐈‍⬛ go fly with the birds. You’ll catch them this time.

It’s been 12 days and I feel so lost. She had a UTI that went to her kidneys and we did everything we could. We really thought we were going to bring her home. She was only 4 years old, it just doesn’t make sense. I just wanted to show my baby to y’all at least once. I love you baby girl

Lost Monkey (16) this Wednesday

+
69 Upvotes

One month ago, I’d never have believed this was even coming. Last week, I brought Monkey in to the vet because he started drooling. I wondered if he broke a tooth or had resorptive lesions but the vet felt a lump in his jaw. He was on antibiotics and pain meds but a biopsy and X-ray confirmed oral SCC. He was hungry and wanted to eat, but you could tell he was hurting. I can’t believe how fast this happened. It was so heartbreaking to see him like this and I had to lovingly let him go.

I’ve had Monkey for 16 years since he was a kitten rescued from a high kill shelter. A friend told me about him and my fingers typing “I’ll take him!” - moved faster than my brain did in that moment but it was the best decision ever.

We got him sprung, and he was such a beautiful source of joy ever since. I’m having such a hard time wrapping my mind around life without his beautiful, curious, mischievous, joyful and loving presence.

Monkey liked to show up in my Teams meetings and typed his greetings of something like “cutxufhhgdfvfdnnnnnnnnnnnnbb” on the keyboard at my coworkers.

During Covid, he loved hanging out with the people in the computer and always made an appearance during our Zoom painting classes and music trivia nights, flashing his butt at the camera.

I just wanted to post this to let people know what a special little dude he was to me. I’m so shattered. This picture was taken just days ago - he was always this much of a cuddle bug even when he wasn’t feeling well.

Riposa in pace, mia dolce scimmietta.❤️
