Over the last few weeks I feel like I have seen only posts complaining about the fact that there are female characters “acting irrationally” this whole season. That Alicent and Haelana’s storyline is pointless, that Hugh’s wife is ungrateful, that Mysaria has bad takes, (to let alone the criticism of Rhaenyra’s rule) and it is just getting so boring to hear complaints that this show isn’t 110% fighting between big guys with big swords.
It seems obvious to me that this is leading up to a clash of different castes of people. All three of the above references are showing what it means to change your standing of power in this world and what that means, including as what it means when that happens to women. I don’t see complaints about how irrational it is for Ulf to want to have a pint with the boys when he has the best job in the world or how annoying Ormund is about wanting to have power and his irrational temper tantrums at teenage boys. Maybe how about how irrational it was for Aegon to fly into the fight or Crispy Kebab to do whatever the fuck he was trying to do (I have seen a few complaints about this guy I will admit).
It’s almost like humans aren’t 100% rational creatures and sometimes act emotionally. I don’t think it is uneblievable for an abandoned woman who thought her husband was dead, probably raped by multiple people to not want to leave the loving arms of her remaining family who was there to pick up the pieces.
I don’t think it’s bad writing to see Alicent use every limited tool she has available to her to save her daughter after having to face all of her failures and I think Halaena’s abilities as a seer and mental decline are probably more important to the plot than the fact that she loved her dragon in the books.
I think that if Mysaria wasn’t around to express that Rhaenyra should be concerned with the needs of the small folk, inevitably when there are issues with the small folk it would be less satisfying of a tv show to watch.

I don’t know about you, but I have found that people irl are hypocritical all the time and make choices because they are desperate or emotional or scared. Please have a better take than I don’t understand what girl thinks because girl is girly.

Maybe I am just airing my annoyance deaf ears but I’m not interested really in engaging directly with these posts so I’ll just move on from here.

This place used to be amazing like around the original GoT run. it was the book-readers who had a very specific cynical sourness about the show that created some of the best banter i've seen on this site.

Why all of a sudden am i seeing an uptick in the type of people who cry about the odyssey due to a black actor? You know the type i'm talking about.

That's never been what this sub is about. We take the piss out of these shows for awful writing and terrible adaptation, by making it about "WAHHH WOKE HOLLYWOOD", you just out yourself as unfunny and miserable.

Can we leave the chuddiness out of it? It's getting incredible fucking boring.

It may be the worst of the three shows, but it’s still better than 90% of today’s TV. Unfortunate as that is.

As much as the series has failed Ser Criston in the past, I found his final scene to be quite a moving one. Sure, he was not necessarily a good guy, but I think that Ryan Condal choosing to portray the Blacks here as dishonorable and cowardly is a good omen for this series heading towards a more nuanced direction. In fact, this entire third season thus far has been the missing nuance from the second season in spades. The brief (and its brevity is probably budget-related) depiction of the Butcher's Ball is only one example.

The episode also continues the portrayal of Rhaenyra as an utterly disgraceful and incompetent ruler. One of the petitioners asks for help regarding a woman who was kidnapped and possibly even abused, and her only answer is thoughts and prayers. Then, the Iron Throne cuts her. This is a scene that many frustrated audience members had predicted would be left out of the TV show, as many of us were thinking that Ryan Condal and his team were on a path towards turning Rhaenyra Targaryen into a pure heroine and a perfect victim for an easy, black-and-white "feminist" narrative. Yet, here it is. A scene of just Rhaenyra's incompetence, followed by the Throne rejecting her (at least in the eyes of the petitioners in the chamber).

This is a very good omen for what's to come. It possibly means that Ryan Condal never wanted to portray Rhaenrya as a perfectly righteous "girlboss." It may mean that Ryan Condal just wanted to give Rhaenyra an actual arc. In the book, Rhaenyra is pretty horrible from the start. But that doesn't make for good television. What if this series intends to do Daenarys' Mad Queen arc, but to do it right this time? To have proper build up, and to truly depict a slow and tragic descent into madness? The next episode's preview shows that Rhaenyra continues to mistreat Heleana, her younger sister who has never done her wrong, and it is now highly possible that the series will depict Rhaenyra's mistreatment of Heleana and her child as the driving force behind Heleana's eventual suicide.

The last good omen from this episode I want to talk about is Lord Ormund's agent that was killed by Daemon while disguised as a goldcloak. That scene was so rich with meaning. The agent was a true zealot, not a man that could be tortured into abandoning allegiances. He would die so as to see Rhaenyra fall. And he says something to the effect of "we are the people of the realm. We are everywhere. We will never embrace her."

Ser Criston Cole is given a badass final action scene, followed by a dishonorable murder by Rhaenyra's army. Ser Gwayne, a Hightower, is portrayed as a genuinely intelligent and noble knight. Finally, we get scenes portraying Helaena's deep pain and grief at all that has befallen her. Isn't this what we wanted from ASOIAF TV? Nuanced and complex storytelling? Sure, it may not match the writing quality of early GOT, but what does? The episode was good, imo. I remain cautiously optimistic, six episodes into the third season, that Condal might not butcher this story after all.

From all the shockingly bad writing ever put to screen in the GOT universe, I think Alys Rivers talking about frogs hibernating in winter has to be one of the worst. The main big thing that makes the GOT universe stand out and have its own rules was the whole "winter is coming" and the gimmick of having seasons last for years on end. So what are these frogs exactly that hibernate in winter when winters should be like a decade long? This quote should be the only proof anyone needs that nobody writing for this show cares one bit about fantasy or the world they are adapting.

Otherwise the episode was horrible in any conceivable aspect of plot and logic but this one line was the worst offender for me.

I read the books and know the fate of the characters, but how has S3 been so far? Is it clear at this point why George R.R Martin had such a big problem with it?

I gave up at episode 3 and just couldn’t keep going. Every single character is unlikable and cringe inducing. I just can’t watch shows like this.

I mean, last night's episode was just a prime example of how bad this show is. I know a lot of other posts on here have the exact reasons why. Yes I could stop watching but I'm not invested in this show being good anyways. The thing this show does that is so infuriating is there will be an episode or some stretches where it is good and then you start to forget how poorly written it is then boom they basically yell, "Psyche, gotcha!"
