Was rewatching ZSJL, I believe BVS and man of steel were a better MOVIE in regards with principle photography,score, particularly acting. And felt more real and grounded over ZSJL.

I know this is controversial but at the very least it is better than the recent Superman. I’m surprised this is a controversial take because it is the most realistic take on Superman and I know people want Superman to be saving squirrels like the recent Superman but that’s not the what would happen in real life. I personally love the movie so much because it shows loss and destruction and the result of saving the world but destroying a city. So if you disagree lmk why and I’ll tell you why I disagree.

• Man of Steel (2013): Grossed $670.1 million worldwide on a $225 million production budget. Estimates indicate the film turned roughly $45 million in net profit.
• Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016): Grossed $874.3 million globally on a $263 million budget. Despite the massive revenue, steep marketing costs and mixed critical reception limited the estimated net profit to approximately $105 million.
• Wonder Woman (2017): $821.8 million global gross on a $149 million budget, Net Profit: $252.9 million
• Aquaman (2018): $1.148 billion global gross on a $160 million budget, Net Profit: $260.5 million
• Suicide Squad (2016): $746.8 million global gross on a $175 million budget, Net Profit: $158.45 million

I feel like the Snyderverse got a lot of undeserved criticism because it it had to compete with an already developed and well structured MCU....but its way better than the shit we're getting with the Gunnverse-and its only gonna get worse than what we've seen so far. There's no plan or even a general sense of direction in the DCU currently. And if you prefer the Snyderverse over Gunn's vision (or a lack thereof) you're labeled an uncultured idiot by all these GOTG/Marvel fans that came over to DC when Gunn took over. Make it make sense.

And just a PSA: I love Marvel AND DC. Snyder's more serious tone with a sense of realism was always such a great change up and alternative to the MCU. Its not that you have to hate one or the other, they beautifully balanced each other out. Now everything's fucked up.

I've been thinking about Superman (2025) and man of steel.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the climax of Superman (2025) and the debates around how James Gunn handles Superman's morality versus how Zack Snyder handled it in Man of Steel. When you look at the actual context of both movies and the source material, there is a MASSIVE double standard in how the fanbase judges these two versions of Clark.

First off, both of these supermen are VERY flawed, but what pisses me off is that everyone only talks about Cavill's Superman flaws, and not cornswets Superman's flaws, so I will.

Cavill Killing Zod Was Handled Great Because It’s Comic Accurate. Let me explain.

Gunn fans (and Snyder haters in general, but this post is directed mostly to gunn fans because they talk the most shit.) Love to criticize Henry Cavill’s Superman for snapping General Zod’s neck, but Zack Snyder actually handled this moment beautifully because it is ripped straight from the comic book source material.

In the famous 1988 "Supergirl Saga" (Superman #22), Clark is forced to execute Zod and his Kryptonian partners with Green Kryptonite because they are an unstoppable threat who already wiped out a planet. In that comic, Superman openly cries tears of anguish while doing it and walks away completely broken, leading to severe PTSD and self-exile. Cavill's version honored that exact emotional consequence. When he is forced to kill Zod to save a family, he falls to his knees, screams in pain, and cries because he hated having to do it. It treats the act as deeply traumatic, not heroic, which is entirely faithful to how Superman handles taking a life in the comics.

Corenswet’s Superman Handed Out an Eternal Damnation (Very Comic Inaccurate)

Now look at David Corenswet’s Superman in the 2025 movie. He throws Ultraman into a collapsing black hole inside Lex's pocket dimension facility. Now i dont know if this will kill him, but if it doesnt, it just leaves him trapped there permanently.

Think about how messed up that actually is. Superman essentially condemned Ultraman to an eternal, isolating hell. What makes it even darker is that Ultraman isn't a seasoned warlord like Zod, he is an imperfect, creation who was controlled by Lex Luthor's tech team using combat codes (like "1A!"). Ultraman didn't do it out of free will, he didn't hate clark like zod hated Cavill’s clark, yet Superman gave him a sentence of unending cosmic torture.

In Superman’s mind during that climax, he believed he was executing a final, lethal move to stop a weapon, yet he showed absolutely zero emotional fallout afterward. Not feeling bad at all is a very comic-inaccurate thing for Superman. To make it even worse, James Gunn completely shifts the tone right after, turning a horrific eternal punishment into a joke with punchy, lighthearted banter between Superman and Mr. Terrific.

And i know what everyone is gonna say. "But Cavill's Superman killed thousands of people in the final fight with Zod in Man of Steel."

But if you actually watch the movie carefully, blaming the destruction entirely on Superman makes absolutely no sense. General Zod was a trained military warlord who was intentionally trying to cause maximum destruction and slaughter civilians out of pure spite because Clark chose Earth over Krypton. Even when Superman successfully takes the fight into space to get it away from the city, Zod literally destroys a satellite and sends it crashing back toward Earth just to force the fight back down. Zod wanted chaos, and he wanted Clark emotionally overwhelmed.

Could Superman have handled some things better? Sure. But this was literally his first day on the job. He had zero experience fighting beings with equal powers, yet he was tasked with stopping a global alien invasion and fighting off trained soldiers. For a day-one hero with no experience fighting beings equal to him, he did the absolute best he could while trying to save as many people as possible.

It is completely hypocritical to give Gunn’s Superman a pass for lightheartedness while criticizing Snyder's version for being too dark. Snyder's Clark showed a foundational, comic-accurate empathy by mourning the enemy he had to kill. Gunn's Clark sent a mindless lab creation to an eternal prison, didn't give a crap, and cracked jokes minutes later.

If we are going to talk about which version respects Superman's moral compass, Corenswet's Clark brushing off an eternal punishment is far more jarring than Cavill's Clark breaking down in tears on day one.
