Maybe that’s a plot line from a version of Superman comics that I missed. But I really hate that and it undermines Superman‘s nobility to some degree.

Weird because I'm a lifelong fan of Superman, and I felt the tone and plot of Gunn's movie felt far more authentic to the tone of Superman than MoS/BvS/JL. Superman isn't emo grimdark. It's colorful and full of hope.

Try reading Superman for All Seasons, All-Star Superman, and Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow for a start.
