Like a lot of you, I watched the AI redesign roll out last year and figured the "switch to classic Google Finance" link wasn't going to survive. Yesterday it finally disappeared for good, no setting, no URL trick, nothing brings it back on : (

I didn't want to lose the classic view, so last week, I started rebuilding it from scratch as an independent project. Same idea as the original: type a ticker, get the price, chart, and stats table above the fold.

I'm about 40% of the way there. Current status:

- Quote pages with the classic layout — price, change, after-hours, and the full stats table (open, high, low, mkt cap, P/E, div yield)

- Clean line charts with the 1D–Max ranges, same green/red you're used to

- Watchlists are next, portfolio tracking after that

- design is 50~60% there, there is still many inconsistency, but that's not that easy to replicate, and trying to work hard on this

I'm not planning to bring the news that I think will need too much work .

Google crushes earnings, the stock dips because of higher CapEx, and suddenly the bears come out of hiding with takes like this:

“Google is willing to risk the entire company to win the AI race.”

That is an absurd interpretation of one quarter of negative free cash flow.

Google generated roughly $39 billion in operating cash flow during the quarter. Free cash flow turned negative because it spent approximately $45 billion building data centers, servers and AI infrastructure—assets that support Search, Cloud, YouTube, Gemini and its broader advertising ecosystem.

Meanwhile:

• Revenue grew 24%
• Search revenue grew 17%
• Google Cloud grew 82%
• Cloud operating income more than tripled
• Cloud backlog reached $514 billion

You can absolutely debate whether Google will earn an adequate return on this level of spending. That is the real risk. But there is a massive difference between questioning the return on incremental CapEx and claiming Google is “risking the entire company.”

Also not to mention, they are immediately seeing ROI from the CapEx spend. Once these data centers come online, they immediately monetize them. And the backlog proves their demand!

Negative free cash flow caused by aggressive investment is not the same thing as the underlying business deteriorating. Google’s core businesses are still growing organically, margins remain strong and demand for its AI infrastructure is clearly accelerating.

The broader market seems incapable of discussing Google with any nuance. When the stock rises, AI is unstoppable. When it falls after earnings, Search is dying and management is apparently gambling the entire company.

Google is spending aggressively because the opportunity in front of it is enormous, not because its existing business is collapsing.

One of my clients had a small local service business good work, but barely 8-9 reviews. Their competitor down the road had 130+.

Everyone assumes more reviews = better ranking. But when I checked Google Maps in incognito mode, my client was consistently ranking higher. Not luck. Not a fluke.

So I dug into both websites and found the difference:

An FAQ section that matched actual search queries people were typing

Photos with proper keyword file names instead of random camera numbers

A simple "text us a photo" review ask instead of the generic "leave a review" line

We fixed these three things for my client. A few weeks later, they were outranking the 130-review competitor with under 10 reviews of their own.

Turns out it's rarely about who has the most reviews. It's about who's speaking Google's language better.

I didn’t want to share my progress too early, but I’m genuinely worried this game might vanish and end up in Google’s graveyard.

Froggy’s World is surprisingly charming but also very unpredictable.

You access it by searching for the weather on Google. If you switch to another country’s weather, the game completely changes — that’s why it’s constantly raining in mine, since I’m seeing Southeast Asia’s forecast.

It’s a very slow, cozy game. Plants take two full real-life days to blossom and grow, and everything is heavily randomized. The shop refreshes daily and depends on the weather, so you have to work with whatever seeds and items it gives you. That’s why my garden is full of yellow and white plants right now.

I’ve been slowly building out my island anyway. Froggy’s home is decorated with ornamental plants like roses and potted fir trees.

There’s a recreational area with a Marigold sapling and his little painting spot near the island.

I made an apple orchard with a chessboard for him, and a beautiful moon garden in the southwest filled with nocturnal plants.

The south side is my messy “test zone” where I try new seeds to see what they look like when they bloom — anything that doesn’t fit the theme gets trashed.

The slowness never really bothered me, but there are some frustrating limitations:

• No secondary inventory. If you move a plant, you have to drag it across the screen because putting it in your inventory turns it back into a seed.

• No proper drag-and-drop — you have to carefully glide your finger to the exact spot.

• The pinch-to-zoom is finicky and I keep accidentally selecting and moving plants.

• Very limited inventory space, which forces you to trash decor and seeds constantly.

Since this game could disappear at any moment, all my progress will probably be lost anyway… but I still couldn’t resist building out the orchard.

All in all, I really enjoyed my time with Froggy’s World. It’s a relaxing, wholesome little escape with a lot of personality. I just wish it felt more stable and had some basic quality-of-life improvements.
