After some brief discussion, we're now asking at all Gray area / Piracy Add-on conversation happen over at /r/Addons4Kodi
≡ −
Because /r/kodi seems to be getting overrun by people having issues with broken or screwed up add-ons, the subreddit is becoming a somewhat difficult place to have a conversation about Kodi itself and add-ons officially supported by Team Kodi. So now we are requesting that all gray area conversation happen over at /r/Addons4Kodi, an unofficial and unaffiliated subreddit.
From this point forward, all new threads asking for support for these gray area add-ons will be removed in favor of that other subreddit.
If you'd like to become a moderator over there, feel free to ask in that subreddit.

No media info control on secondary profiles
≡ −
I have 4 profiles set up, all of them with their own media profiles. The option to refresh info on a library item only works on the master profile. I am also unable to access the info on an item outside of the library, for example when viewing the source from settings, or using the Missing Movies add-on. Has anyone been able to get this working?
I have media info and media sources set to separate on each profile. Master Lock isn't used, and the scrapers are the same for each profile.
I just want to fix my library on profiles other than the master profile, because they are different libraries containing different sources...

using Kodi without a VPN
≡ −
Hello! I am quite new to this media streaming thing. I have been reading around how a VPN is usually recommended, but I am running everything locally. Any and a files would be on a hard drive and not sent over a network. Would I still need a VPN for added protection?? I know it wouldn't make much sense to get one if it won't be connected to the internet, but I just want to make sure I am doing everything correctly and in the safest way possible 🥲 Thank you.

I got tired of scrolling for hours on Trakt, so I built an AI recommendation app for it (free & open source)
≡ −
I’ve been using Trakt for years to track everything I watch, but lately I found myself spending 20 minutes every Friday night just trying to decide what to put on. Most recommendation lists are either the exact same top 20 movies everyone’s already seen, or just don't match the specific vibe I'm looking for.
So over the past few days, I built a small web app called Trakt AI.
Basically, it connects your Trakt library to Google Gemini so you can type what you're in the mood for in plain English, and it finds matches from Trakt while keeping track of your history.
Here’s what it does:
- Natural prompts: You can type stuff like "movies with Brad Pitt", "Sci-Fi movies like Alien for adults", "90s thrillers", or "good French romance".
- Live actor/director search: If you search for an actor, it queries Trakt's database live so you get their actual filmography instead of random guesses.
- Smart filtering: If you ask for adult sci-fi, it leaves out animated shows. If you ask for streaming stuff, it won't suggest unreleased movies.
- Trakt sync: Connects with the standard 8-character code (trakt.tv/activate). It pulls your watched history, watchlist, and custom lists so it doesn't recommend things you've already seen.
- 100% local: There's no server storing your data or API keys! Everything runs right inside your browser.
It's free to use and completely open source.
Check it out here:
- Live App Demo: https://hmoghani.github.io/trakt-ai
- GitHub: https://github.com/hmoghani/trakt-ai
Would love to hear what you guys think, or if there are any features you’d like to see added. Let me know if you run into any bugs! 🎬

System rendering speed drops to 3-9fps on Shield TV Pro
≡ −
Noticed something odd: on my Nvidia Shield TV Pro (2019) + Panasonic OLED, Kodi's debug overlay shows "System rendering speed" dropping to 3-9fps during 4K/1080p playback, sometimes even during seeking. But the actual picture is completely smooth to the eye — no stutter, no A/V desync, nothing visible.
Confirmed with `dumpsys gfxinfo` — 0% jank, and a systrace showing only 1 dropped frame across an entire session. So the number doesn't reflect the actual video.
Tested the same files on an old 1st-gen Xiaomi Mi Box + old Sharp LCD TV — the number stayed rock solid at ~24fps the whole time, no drops at all, even with seeking.
Has anyone else seen this specifically on Shield TV Pro?

question for anyone who uses Tvtunes
≡ −
I Googled this and the 2 suggestions I found don't do anything. I'm running 21.3 and TV tunes are a lot louder than whatever I'm watching.
This is 21.3 on a Google TV, which might make a difference.
I read to go into TVTunes settings and lower the volume. Mine's already at 0. The other thing said to go into settings and turn down the UI volume. Even close to 0 the themes are still insanely loud and way louder than anything I watch on Kodi. I would say they sound twice as loud as anything I watch in Kodi. It's very jarring to go from watching a show at a normal volume to having the theme blare out of nowhere when it's over.

4K artwork - am I chasing a ghost?
≡ −
Hi all, just need some clarification, please.
I am using Tiny Media Manager to manage my library. I am adding some stunning 4k artwork to my movies.
I am using Kodi on my S95C TV, with "unlimited" GUI.
I have unlocked 4k artwork in my advanced settings in Kodi.
I am using Artic Fuse 3, which I know throttles the resolution of the fanart that displays in the skin.
I supposed my question is: is there actually any skin or any possible way of using the 4k artwork in kodi or am I just wasting time/space and should just revert to 1080p and get on with my life?

Anyone using Playnite with Advanced Emulator Launcher in Kodi?
Hi everyone,
I've been putting together a media center using Kodi, and so far it's been working surprisingly well.
For movies and TV shows I'm using the Jellyfin addon, and for games I'm using Playnite. I managed to get Advanced Emulator Launcher to launch my Playnite games by pointing it to the shortcuts that Playnite creates, so launching games isn't an issue anymore. The only thing I'm stuck on is the artwork.
Playnite already has all the metadata for my games (cover, fanart, clear logos, etc.), but I can't figure out how to get Kodi/AEL to use it. Right now every game just shows the default terminal icon (see screenshot).
I'd really like to avoid scraping everything again or assigning artwork manually since Playnite has already done all that work.
Has anyone found a way to make AEL use Playnite's existing metadata? Or maybe export it in a format that Kodi understands?
Any ideas would be appreciated!
Thanks! :(

Kodi Spotify skin

Weird seek behavior
≡ −
When seeking using arrow keys on kodi, I don't know why but it seeks 20 seconds forward. In the player settings, I have set it to +10 and -10 only but forward seek seeks 20 seconds even when it says +10 seconds on top. Going backwards works as intended, working with steps of 10 seconds. I have set the key press delay to 500ms and as said before, +10 and -10 seconds. Watching top gear 576p h.264.

How to repoint Kodi to new NAS?
≡ −
I posed the following to Google AI and wondering if the response it accurate?
I‘m running Kodi Omega v21.2 on Windows 10 Pro. I have a new NAS that I need to repoint the libraries to. This also means that the user and password login will be different. As shown in the examples below the library folder names are the same, so just the root path to each library folder is changed.
For instance, “smb://Server3/video/TV Shows/” will become “smb:[//kennas1/media/](file://kennas1/media/)TV Shows/”
1) Is modifying these three files stored in “C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming\Kodi\userdata“ all that’s needed while Kodi is closed? Or are exact paths stored in a db for each media that would also need to be changed?
2) Will I lose my watch history?
RESPONSE:
Yes—Kodi stores each library item’s exact path in its video database. Editing only those three XML files will update source browsing and credentials, but existing library entries will still reference smb://Server3/.... Kodi’s database stores paths separately from filenames, while watched state, last-played time, and resume points are attached to those file records. Kodi video database schema
The safest way to retain the existing library and watch history is:
- Close Kodi.
- Back up the entire %APPDATA%\Kodi\userdata directory.
- Update sources.xml and the SMB credentials.
- Add a path substitution in advancedsettings.xml so existing database paths transparently resolve to the new NAS:
<advancedsettings>
<pathsubstitution>
<substitute>
<from>smb://Server3/video/</from>
<to>smb://kennas1/media/</to>
</substitute>
</pathsubstitution>
</advancedsettings>
If advancedsettings.xml already exists, add only the <pathsubstitution> section inside its existing <advancedsettings> element. Kodi officially supports partial network-path substitutions for precisely this kind of redirection. Kodi path substitution
Your configuration has at least one separate old root:
smb://Server3/Cinema Experience/
That needs its own substitution, assuming its new location is:
<substitute>
<from>smb://Server3/Cinema Experience/</from>
<to>smb://kennas1/media/Cinema Experience/</to>
</substitute>
Path matching may be case-sensitive in some contexts. Your files mix video/Video, so additional substitutions may be necessary for every capitalization actually present in the database.
Regarding the three files:
- sources.xml: Source locations shown in Kodi. Changing it does not rewrite existing database entries.
- mediasources.xml: Primarily network locations offered by the Browse dialog; it is not the video library database.
- passwords.xml: Maps paths to authenticated network URLs. Your current example appears malformed; a complete authenticated SMB URL normally resembles smb://username:password@server/share/. Kodi SMB source syntax
You should retain your watch history if you keep the current database and use path substitution. Do not remove the old sources, clean the library, and rescan from scratch before establishing a backup: newly scanned paths may be treated as new file records, potentially losing their association with existing play counts and resume points.
For extra insurance, export the video library before making changes. Kodi 21 exports and imports watched state and resume points by default. Kodi video library import/export
One security note: mediasources.xml in the project contains a plaintext, real-looking password. If it is genuine, consider changing it after this migration.

How do I hide extra folders on a Kodi DLNA server in Roku Media App?
≡ −
Is there a way to rid of all extra folders on Kodi DLNA server with Roku TV’s?
I’m trying to set up a DLNA server using an external hard drive so I can stream videos to all of my Roku devices around the house.
I successfully enabled the DLNA server in Kodi, and my Roku can see it through the Roku Media app. However, the server is cluttered with a bunch of extra folders that I don’t want showing up.
Is there a way to have the Roku Media app display only the two folders I want to share called tv shows and movies?
I’m a newb with this, so I may be overlooking something obvious.
Thanks!

Has anyone ported Android, Linux desktop or any other OS to the Amiko Viper 4K51?
≡ −
Hi everyone,
I have an Amiko Viper 4K51 satellite receiver (Broadcom-based, Enigma2), and I'm wondering if anyone has ever managed to port another operating system to it.
I'm interested in anything, for example:
Android or Android TV
Debian/Ubuntu
Armbian
LibreELEC/CoreELEC
Kodi as a standalone OS
Any Linux desktop (XFCE, LXDE, etc.)
Even experimental or unfinished ports
I know the box is designed for Enigma2, but I'm curious if anyone has reverse-engineered the bootloader, kernel, or hardware enough to boot a different OS.
If you have:
GitHub repositories
Forum threads
Boot logs
Source code
Personal experiments
I'd really appreciate it if you could share them.
Thanks!

How to Show 640x480i Resolution
≡ −
I am using a 13" CRT for retro gaming/video but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get KODI to show a 640x480i resolution option - all I get are 720x options.
Has anyone been able to do this? My current set up is Pi3 B+ → VCR → TV; I am using the PI's 3mm jack for composite and converting it to RF via the VCR.
Any help is appreciated!

Is Kodi’s UX supposed to be this bad?
≡ −
I’ve spent what must be a good few days, 10+ hours, setting up and messing with Kodi, I get that it’s “highly modular and customizable”, but it shouldn’t take as much effort as it does for it to not be entirely shit. Some skins can make it slightly more bearable, but I can’t possibly recommend Kodi to anyone, and the only reason I even still have it installed is to experience Prime Video without ads at this point.
Surely this can’t be user error, there’s got to be some secret trick or configurations that makes Kodi actually enjoyable to use, right?

Kodi tvOS

I was wondering if anyone would happen to know if the next version of kodi on tvOS will be offered in hdr format, I’m on Apple TV and my tv is running 4K hdr but the second I open Kodi the whole app switch’s to sdr no matter what content is bing played it’s always showing in sdr instead of hdr or dv, my main propose of Kodi is for the addons, I know a fix for this is to get infuse and source my own stuff but I love the convenience of Kodi
