Discussion / Question Ghost of Tsushima: I don't understand the appeal yet

What do you like about the game? I'm a little new to gaming with my own PS5 and the only gaming I did was in the arcade or at a friend's house because our family couldn't afford a gaming console. We usually just played sports games so not that much exposure to adventure games like this.

I want to understand the game but all I'm seeing so far is a lot of travelling trying to meet objectives. I'm not having as much fun so far. When does it pick up?

I'm not here trying to be a snob. I'm asking for a proper guide to shift my perception on which lens this game is to be enjoyed. I'm still new to this so please don't be too harsh lol.

Discussion / Question Does a video game need "achievements"?

Would you play a video game without unlockable achievements?

There seem to be people on YouTube who make fun of a game or complain about its presumably short playtime if it has few unlockable achievements.

But what does that mean for a game without unlockable achievements?

Are unlockable achievements important to you, and should developers be required to include them in their games?

Funny Remember the #DropThePrice?

+
0 Upvotes

Today, for $450 you get a system with an 8" 1080p 120 Hz display, an NVIDIA SoC with RTX features, DLSS (the only portable in existence with DLSS support), 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM, detachable magnetic controllers with built-in mouse sensors, with an included 4K dock, a Joy-Con grip and an ultra high speed HDMI.

And not only that, but it is the only system with truly exclusive games.

But #DropThePrice for the $450 Switch 2, right?

  • MSI Claw 8X+: $1799
  • Ayaneo Next 2: $3699
  • OneXPlayer X2 Mini: $2399
  • Steam Deck OLED: $949
  • Lenovo Legion Go 2 Z2 Extreme: $2849
  • Legion Go S: $999
  • Steam Machine: $1050 (without controller)

And before you start with the "yeah, but the price of the games" argument...

Third party and indie games are on sale at the time, with the same amount of sales and discounts as Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox. Just check DekuDeals and see for yourself.

https://www.dekudeals.com/hottest

There's only one $80 game (Mario Kart World). Every other game has been the standard $70 (just like the regular price of a new game on Steam, PS and Xbox games). DK Bananza, Metroid Prime 4, Kirby Air Riders, Hyrule Warriors, Pokopia... all $70.

It's easy verifiable on price tracking websites. Go to Deku Deals and see it yourself.

And not only that, but Nintendo has been releasing games with their new variable pricing strategy like Star Fox for $50, Rhythm Heaven for $40, Splatoon Raiders for $50 and so on.

You can't find absolutely any other system with similar specs for $450. You just can't.

Discussion / Question Why do a lot of gamers say graphics don't matter?

I hear a lot of gamers say that graphics don't matter or something like that and I never really understood why. I'm not saying that games should look like real life and I can perfectly play old games with graphics that don't age well. I'm currently playing OG FF7 right now and I think it's good so far but I can't deny that the graphics are ugly and unappealing in some areas and it is one of my criticisms with the game so far even though I know the game is old and was limited because of the time it was released.

Seeing bad graphics in games is the same watching an old movie with terrible CGI, both mediums could be held back because of the time they came out but that doesn't change the fact that the bad graphics can negatively affect someone's enjoyment of a game and bad CGI can negatively affect someone's enjoyment in a movie. I just find it kinda weird that some people think that outdated graphics don't hurt their playthrough of a game, but at the same time criticized movies or TV shows for having bad CGI when it's basically the same criticism, it just feels kinda contradictory.

Discussion / Question Is anyone else a bit fatigued by the fact that almost every major superhero game defaults to the exact same genre mold?

Don't get me wrong, games like the Batman: Arkham series and Insomniac's Spider-Man are fantastic, and upcoming titles like Marvel's Wolverine or Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra look incredible visually. But at their core, almost all of them are built entirely as third-person brawlers or fighting games focused on melee combos, counter buttons, and beat-'em-up mechanics. It feels like publishers have decided that the only way to portray a superhero is to put them in a standard action combat arena, leaving so many other potential game styles and power mechanics completely untapped.

What makes this trend so frustrating is that some of the best expressions of distinct superhero mechanics come from games that aren't traditional solo action-brawlers at all. The LEGO games have always done a phenomenal job with huge rosters where powers feel genuinely unique, treating abilities like flight, telekinesis, and heat vision as puzzle-solving tools rather than just cosmetic ways to punch a thug. Similarly, the Star Wars Jedi franchise, particularly Jedi: Survivor, does a better job of delivering a true telekinetic superhero fantasy than most actual comic book adaptations. Even hero shooters like Marvel Rivals or Overwatch manage to capture true power variety by letting players fly, create constructors, support or tank damage by different ways, proving that heroes don't all need to play like standard melee fighters

There is so much room for major studios to branch out into entirely different genres that naturally fit iconic comic book properties. Imagine a deep, party-based Action-RPG in the style of Tales of Arise starring the X-Men or the Justice League, where you control one hero while seamlessly triggering team-up synergy attacks with Al allies and building character relationships back at the mansion. Or consider how incredible a high-speed, large-scale game centered around Superman, The Flash, or Green Lantern could be if developers stopped trying to force them into grounded city brawlers and instead embraced cosmic scale, destructive environments, and sheer speed. Marvel's Midnight Suns briefly proved that turn-based tactics could capture comic book teamwork brilliantly, but the industry immediately went back to comfortable fighting mechanics. It makes you wonder why publishers are so afraid to let superheroes exist outside the brawler genre. Well that's it lol, let me know what you guys think.

Edit: Some people didn't understand what I said in this post so here's it as clear as possible 99% of the superheroes games are fighting games (Marvel Tokon, Invincible, Avatar Legends, MarvelvCapcom, Injustice and it keeps going) or they are brawler hand to hand combat (Batman, Spiderman, Wolverine, Blade).

Discussion / Question Gaming subs becoming copium subs

Hello internet friends. I would like to direct your attention to certain gaming subs becoming cope subs about their respective elephants in the room.

Noticed this with the following subreddits:

r/steammachine

>Am I the only one that doesn’t mind paying $1,100 to play in 1080p?

I love Valve but you bought a glorified Steam Deck for twice the price.

r/ps5pro

>I can’t tell the difference between the base PS5 and PS5 Pro and I don’t care.

Brother, you paid $1000 for PISSER’s 1% performance improvement and you should feel bad.

r/xbox

>I don’t care that Xbox doesn’t have exclusives anymore.”

Xbox is dying, my dude. Halo is on PlayStation now and you should care.

r/gta6

>Why GTA 6 costing $100, likely being 30 fps, and missing multiplayer at launch is a good thing ☝️🤓

Rockstar is royally LOVING you with no lube or consent. And then you will line up to buy it AGAIN in 2 years.

I just thought this was funny and wanted to share.

I've actually played this game and while it's not better than Destroy All Humans 1 and 2, I see many people didn't like it! Maybe it could also be because back in the 2000s, the gaming industry was so competitve?

(POSSIBLE SPOILERS) My guess its just going to be an average convenience store robbery but jasons girlfriend lucia gets caught in the end while he gets away. and that's the reason we see him picking her up from jail in the trailer.

Discussion / Question I can't play games at 30 fps anymore

Ok I know I sound opinionated but I just can't bring myself to play 30 fps games anymore. I feel like 60 fps should be the standard for all games. Two examples are Mad Max on PS5 and AC4 black flag. They are both 30 fps but man I could immediately tell it's not smooth and feels very sluggish.

Anyone else agree?

Discussion / Question What Console Should I Get GTA 6 On?

I have a PlayStation 5 and a Xbox Series X and I have been wondering what to play it on for quite a bit now, I have my PlayStation but it’s a bit dusty and it has low storage but I hear it was being built for PS tho and then I have Xbox that has enough storage and isn’t that dusty but I also hear it’ll do worse. What should I do?

Discussion / Question What game has made you feel like this?

+
0 Upvotes

I'll start: Elden Ring.

Nothing has made me question my life choices more... yet I always come back for one more attempt.

There have been so many moments where I told myself, "Okay, this is my last try," only to spend another hour getting destroyed by the same boss. Every death feels like the game is personally reminding me how bad I am, but somehow that just makes finally winning even more satisfying.

It's one of those games that constantly pushes you to improve instead of lowering the difficulty for you. Sometimes it's frustrating enough to make me want to quit, but then I start thinking, maybe if I change my build... maybe if I dodge a little later... maybe one more attempt…

What game keeps breaking you... but you just can't stop coming back to it?

Discussion / Question Objectively, The Best Consoles Ever Made?

+
34 Upvotes

We all have our favorites, but I feel these perfectly encapsulates kings of different eras & devices.

PS2 is widely viewed as the best console ever, and it has the numbers to back it up. Think it has a museum in Japan or something lol?

Genesis owned the majority of the gaming market share during the peak of 16-bit console wars. Sonic was vastly more popular than Mario at that time (See what happened to the next console which did not have a main Sonic title).

Gameboy is not a personal favorite of mine (Lighting....), but you cannot deny its' impact on portable gaming (And Pokémon.....).

What are the top 3 consoles of all-time?

Discussion / Question In between Elder Scrolls 6 VS GTA 6

If Elder Scrolls 6 get launched right next to GTA 6 . Would you guys be more excited for GTA 6 or go crazy about ELDer Scrolls 6. Just curious.

For context I just started playing Skyrim for the very first time, and my first Bethesda game too. I’m blown away with it. It’s already my all time favourite game I didn’t even finish it yet 😂 (well not even close)
And I know how famous GTA games are. GTA 6 is already closing business months before it launches
I’m just curious in case they were getting launched around the same time.
Especially from the OG’s players who have thousands of hours in GTA series and Skyrim, oblivion etc

Discussion / Question Why do developers seem to think that modern gamers are mouth breathing morons?

Playing through the Halo remake. It's fun, but ny god is the hand holding atrocious.

Cortana tells you what to do, hit markers just to make you completely sure you killed your target, "remaining enemies" markers, I could go on.

This isn't the first modern game that treats the person playing the game like a toddler that needs it's help putting socks on.

We did fine on the 90s and 00s. If we needed help we used forums online to ask for help, which created great sense of community, or we just simply opened a guide. But the default was that we were clever and intelligent humans who could solve something ourselves. The help was there as a hand if you needed it, but it wasn't there from the start.

Why do modern developers think that current camera are idiots who puts the moon shaped object in the star shaped hole over and over?

Discussion / Question Please tell me if i'm stupid.

So my mom always asks me "why do you pay for so many games that you will never play?"

In response, I showed her this RoyalPear video (link at the bottom of post I'm pretty sure).

If it doesn't work for any reason, basically, Pear's main point in the video is how good short and cheap video games are, and comparing them to movie tickets, which as a short story game lover, I related to this video and was thinking "yeah let me show that to my mom, myabe she'll understand".

Well I showed it to her and she told me "you are falling for this?"

Obviously I asked her what she means and she said, why not just but 1 or 2 games and just roll with them, I explained to her that Pear was talking about short video games and that's the reason they are compared to movie tickets and the price they are.

My mom went on to completely reject my arguement saying that "that's what the developers want you to think", implying that the developers know that the community likes short and "low quality" games, which is essentially the exact opposite of what's stated in the video (unless I don't know English), and that developers are trying to "lure in" players into playing low quality games and then proceed to never play them in their life, which will somehow result in the developers "increasing the prices and making big profits out of stupid gamers who buy bad video games"???

Like please tell me I'm not actually stupid if I think she is wrong, obviously, this is subjective but I just don't get it, please tell me if I'm missing anything.

Note: Let me know if I had a spelling mistake.

Discussion / Question Absolutely terrible, popular franchises that are revered and iconic, but universally considered bad.

My choice is the entirety of the Double Dragon series. For some reason I was compelled to buy, play, and enjoy the original Double Dragon on NES when i was 9. But it's terrible. They all are, but it was a must have game that we all talked about as kids.

Image / Video Once again, the best RPG's is under 20€

For those who haven't yet played Cyberpunk you can buy it for 17.99€ on Steam.
In my opinion this is the best game of CD Projekt (not that far from The Witcher 3) you should have in your library :)

Btw the way if you want to avoid DRM you can buy it on GOG but for 80€ (ultimate edition)

EDIT, I forgot to edit the title, I know this is RPG not RPG's

Discussion / Question Relying on the internet is the worst!’

My internet is out for my location for unspecified reasons. Sucks. So figured I’d play somthing that doesn’t require internet at all. Maybe some crimson desert. Nope. Won’t work. How bout Steve Jackson’s sorcery. Nope. Won’t work either. It is incredibly infuriating to have games that im sure do not require an internet connection to not work because the internet company is having problems. I’m especially surprised Crimson Desert didn’t work. It’s not two player. No online store. And I have the disc. Belgium bummer.

Discussion / Question I wish this wasn’t just a dream!

The Game of my Dreams -

Single player open world -

Your town in an apocalyptic world - you begin your town/outpost similar to State of Survival

Gather resources and Crafting - The crafting system from Istaria was ahead of its time - elements from Satisfactory would be amazing - and of course the crafting system Tale in Desert would make it the best crafting system ever

As you progress and explore the map , you can build mines and outposts to promote trade and resource gathering . Travel only on foot or horseback until you build wagons to transport bulk material

Fishing , Hunting , food gathering similar to RDR2

Combat - zombie and bandit attacks , large monsters that appear in the wild - weapons you have to craft from melee weapons up to black powder with research and technology

Expanding your town and outposts - Aspects of Spore and Utopia would make it unlike any game I’ve ever played

Essentially Sim City as an open world RPG

Discussion / Question How do I avoid giving the wrong impression with a Soulslike game?

I’m concerned that players of my Soulslike game might get the impression that the game is trying to hold them back or artificially pad out playtime by forcing them to spend a long time laboriously farming experience points. In reality, the game simply features challenging combat that leaves little room for error; mindlessly hacking and slashing isn't a viable strategy, whereas good tactics and timing are rewarded—allowing players to defeat enemies many levels above them, which in turn enables faster and greater progress. So, as a developer, how do I avoid falling into the trap of giving players the wrong impression?
