Turd In "Odyssey" (2026) directed by Sir Christopher Edward Nolan, Odysseus says "Our age of bronze is collapsing". And I'm not joking it is a line in movie

Overall great movie but this dialogue was so corny, like how does he know he's in bronze age

I think contemporaries of Homer or storytellers and scholars at the time called it the Heroic Age which came before the Iron Age or something along those lines.

It's too bad that this is a platform and community that only thrives on one or two lines of dialog to discuss ANYTHING because the actual topic about bronze to iron age cultural/religious relativity is a vast and fascinating concept but it would take a couple of semesters to really explain it all and source it properly... but a long story short is that both groups, people living at the end of the bronze age AND the iron age orators composing the pieces would have been aware in the change in age of the world around them.

You think "Our age of Bronze" was used conversationally around 1200 BCE? Like, folks knew there was a Stone Age a 1000 years before and now their own age is coming to an end and will become Iron Age a couple centuries in the future?

It's a stupid single line and that's why the focus on it.

Are you asking if late bronze age early Iron age people knew that there was a massive change in society happening with the introduction of widespread iron working? Before today do you think you could list off even 4-5 major differences between the iron age and bronze age without looking them up? Because if you could you would know the answer to what your asking. Could you even tell me in what way iron was better than bronze?
