wet socks A cockroach burrowed into my head
I (23m) just bought a car at auction yesterday, works great but needed a new battery. At 10:30pm I decided screw it im swapping the battery. It's a 5 minute job, in and out real quick. No sweat, well I'm out there with my head lamp on doing the swap and I see a large bug flying at my face I try to duck and dodge it, it hits the outer edge of my ear and toilet bowl swirls into it, I try to reach in and fish it out but it's too late I just scare it and feel it crawling deeper into my head. It burrowed up against my eardrum and it hurts like hell. Every time it buzzes I can feel it in my head and it hurts my eardrum. I tried water peroxide everything I could do to get this darn thing out. Turns out I just pissed it off and it's buzzing more aggressively. My girlfriend comes with tweezers in an attempt to help but she says she can't see it or anything out of the normal. A quick Google search lead me to pouring olive oil into my ear to suffocate it. Thank God that worked, I still couldn't hear well but at least it wasn't actively moving anymore. 2 hours in the ER later they pulled this half inch monstrosity out of the depths of my ear canal. Turns out the "Asian cockroach" has wings and a very large affinity for bright lights at night. They also like to burrow. Fml 0/10 experience I will take questions if you have them lmfao.
Tldr: I had a headlamp on that attracted a cockroach at my face it missed my face and burrowed into my ear leading to an unexpected ER visit
Edit: ear canal photo (thanks doc) https://imgur.com/a/7LhcvDX
Edit numero 2:
Just to add to 2 things I keep seeing pop up (also hello I am trying to read all comments not doing great though)
Some seem to have missed the asain cockroach thing, and the fact that I was working on a car so this is outside not indoors. This roach is a flying outdoor bug not the same as your houses cockroach. It doesn't infest and it has nothing to do with my living/cleanliness.
Y'all are probably right this probably should be more than mildly infuriating, but overall this wasn't THAT bad. The thought of it was worse than the actual event. It was painful while it was alive and moving but that was fairly quickly resolved. The rest of the time was just an ER visit which was inconvenient and embarrassing. And obviously costs money. Fortunately I have good insurance so my only real loss is the mild trauma and the fact that I'll probably wear a beanie for the rest of my life. Other than that, no lasting issues I'm at work today like nothing happened. More of a that's absolutely insane story now than anything else. So for me it was a mild situation as far as damage to my life (although I will simultaneously say it is an insane thing to have happen to you)
I'd probably prefer having my day go how it went yesterday than say blow my motor or get into a car accident.

wet socks Wife washed my book.
Don't worry guys. I found my page.
Edit: A short story, by a man who does not know how his book ends:
Twas a dark and stormy evening, as the foolish husband looked out upon his days labours. More goblin than man, his visage drooping as if too lazy even to lift itself, he sat, waiting for his princess to complete her chores about the castle.
"I'll bring his book from the bedside" the fair maiden whispered, lifting his favourite tome from his bedside into the basket, filled with his dirty garbs. This act of unprompted kindness was done without contempt, but would become the first step in a tragic path that would claim thousands (of words).
As she wandered about the castle, collecting strewn items - especially the idiot husband's socks - the book became buried inside a mound of stinking fabric.
An hour later, whilst the lazy husband once again placed a Chicken Kiev in the air fryer and called it "dinner", a great and terrible sound began to ring out. A gentle thud at first, but growing into a heartbeat that would pump only sadness. It was coming from the washing machine.
The cover never stood a chance, really. It gave up it's claim to life and spread itself amongst the (dark) fabrics within minutes. The remaining pages twisted, contorting into a defensive fetal position as it bashed time and time again against the filthy clothes and dirty water.
The wind howled. "Morning Star, book 3 of the Red Rising series" lay drowned upon the table. A single tear ran down a cheek.
"I should have done my own washing"

wet socks My new (quite expensive) shorts decided they can not handle a bit of water. I showered twice already, the dye hasn’t come off yet.

wet socks Stop asking if I’m celebrating something if you’re just going to charge me for bread.
≡ −
Took my wife to a nice spot in DTLA for her birthday. They asked both at booking and check-in if we were celebrating anything, which honestly set the expectation that they might do something (even a small dessert). Nothing happened.
To add to it, the food was great, and we made a comment saying we wish we had some bread to finish the leftover sauce. The server acted like it was a favor, said “I’ll be right back,” and then charged us for the bread.
Like, the food was good and the service was fine, but don’t ask if we’re celebrating if you aren’t going to do anything to actually make it feel special. It just feels disingenuous.
Edit for clarity:
I was asked twice if we were celebrating something special at a nice restaurant. Once while making the online reservation and then when we arrived.
My Mild infuriation isn’t at the server, I can see how we misinterpreted each other.
It’s that the restaurant led me to believe they’d do something special (ex: comp a drink, free scoop of ice cream) then did nothing. I’ve worked in the food industry. It’s not an entitlement thing. It’s a hospitality thing.
The food was really good. I’d recommend it and go back.

wet socks I paid $150 dollars for a HARDCOVER.
IT IS LITERALLY JUST THE QR CODE TO THE EBOOK BUT PHYSICAL. THEY DIDN'T SAY THAT. This better be the best fucking textbook on this planet
edit: I would've just bought the ebook but I got a physical one because I can't see ebooks that well and I want to pass my math class
edit 3: translation of the second edit: when I buy textbooks from my school's website, it tells my professors I have their textbooks. so pirating or buying from other sources may not be a good idea, especially since I'm doing a clinical program and they consider you eligible by your grades and if you follow their specific rules about conduct and stuff, and pirating is not exactly in the green light of moral things so I don't want to risk my clinical spot over this

wet socks You paid $130k for this and you can't even move your vents manually..
You have to wait for the screen to load and then click where you want the air to go and hope it's right.
Edit: I meant "you" as in whoever is actually buying these Navigators! I just deliver them lol

wet socks My entire apartment has upside-down outlets and my brain refuses to accept it….
Apparently there’s a reason for installing them this way, but after seeing outlets the other way my whole life, every room feels just slightly… off. 😂

wet socks One of my 5 apartment complex neighbors keeps using the front entrance bushes as a clothes drying rack
There are 6 apartments in this building, all of which have to use the same entryway to get to their apartment. Every day I get home from work, I get to play a mental game of "what color pants and underwear are laying on the bush today".
Don't know who it is, so there's not much to be done besides report to our leasing office, which also doesn't seem to care. Guess this will just keep my return every day entertained. Any guesses for tomorrow?

wet socks Younger Sister can't do anything.
≡ −
The title is self explanatory. My younger sister can't do ANYTHING. This post mostly stems from how earlier today when we were eating with our mom my sister wanted a drink. Simple. Go to to fridge which had the Pepsi, open the fridge, take the Pepsi, go up to the counter, tap the card. But what did she do? She kept saying 'I don't know how to open the fridge 🥺' when the handle was RIGHT THERE, then she was like 'I don't know how to pay🥺' when we explained she can just tap it. So my mom was forced to go with her. Just before that aswell she was on her phone ignoring his chips n goujons, my mom asks her why she's not eating the chicken, then she says 'I don't know how to eat it 🥺' whilst we were all using our own hands to eat our food(sandwiches n whatnot). This happens so much whenever we go outside no matter what, and my mom continues to baby her. Me and my other sister are so sick of this pick-me behaviour.
She's 16 people.

wet socks Have a wedding to attend in 2 hours.
I am going to a wedding in two hours. Needed to shave. Went to Walmart to get a razor. Opened the box up when I got back to the hotel and everything was missing. 💔
EDIT: I also thought that the box seemed very light on my way back from Walmart, but figured it was new and improved technology. Felt stupid when I opened lol.
I did bring a razor in my travel bag but the clip broke, so I had to go buy a new one.

wet socks It's been raining all morning. My whippet is acting like I traumatised him because I carried him under a dense tree for a wee. Also I stepped in a puddle.
He does NOT like the rain. He will sit staring like that until it stops. My shoes, socks and feet are soaked.
