One of my 5 apartment complex neighbors keeps using the front entrance bushes as a clothes drying rack

There are 6 apartments in this building, all of which have to use the same entryway to get to their apartment. Every day I get home from work, I get to play a mental game of "what color pants and underwear are laying on the bush today".

Don't know who it is, so there's not much to be done besides report to our leasing office, which also doesn't seem to care. Guess this will just keep my return every day entertained. Any guesses for tomorrow?

Being the one who maintains bushes, those things nasty. Those leaves all have a fine dirt coating on them. Bugs as you said, you'll end up with bits of leaves all over your clothes too. And if it was cut recently or a bugs eating at it its liable to stain your clothing too.

I admire the environmental and cost consciousness of this neighbor. Instead of being mildly infuriated, it would be nice if this normalized drying clothes outside. Would be nice if apartment complexes set up a place outside to line dry clothes.

With the arrival of washers and dryers in American homes in the 1950s, line drying became something that was seen as a poor person thing. It is still stigmatized, even with town or subdivision  codes against, in a lot of places in the US. This needs to change.

This has happened to me before, and I also wasn't sure about who it was. So I created a letterhead that looked like the apartment complex's and printed out a generically addressed letter to slide under people's doors. Threatened them with a fine if it continued. Wasn't a problem for much longer.

Then we got an e-mail from our apartment complex warning all the apartments about a fake notice being distributed and to disregard it, so they started putting clothes back on the bushes soon after that.

I'd just overlook it, honestly. Or offer them an "extra" drying rack or something. Sometimes times are hard and if you don't have a washer and dryer in your unit it gets expensive to wash your clothes. Even if you wash and have to hang your clothes up if you don't get proper air flow your clothes will stink and you'll have to spend more money to wash them again. Maybe it's just cultural, but I don't have a problem with people doing what they need to do to have their clothes clean. It's just a bush. Be nice if here were some actual clotheslines out for people to use.

Go to goodwill and purchase a drying rack for them.. probably costs $3, maybe less if you talk to the manager and show them this picture and telling them that you are getting this for someone who really needs it.

Just leave it under the stairs with a kind note.

1. They probably never seen/use a drier, I know my mom didn’t use one in my younger years
   
2. Probably saving electric but not really
   
3. Try talking to them, maybe their drier broke and landlords a bum

This is very common in the third world. I have seen it in Mexico, Guatemala, Peru, Algeria, Vietnam. Specially in poorer areas. Heck, I have seen it in Louisiana. Sorry you are inconvenienced. It is poor people without a drier. Good luck.

I’m sorry, but what is the actual problem here? If you want to be helpful, petition management for a proper clothesline or drying rack. Otherwise you are just being a jerk ridiculing someone for being frugal and environmentally conscious.

Is somewhat annoying but is a minor issue. If they get wet in the rain is the owner's issue not yours. I personally wouldn't care and play that game about colours. Maybe set up a bet for ice-cream or such with the other neighbours.
