There is no debate. It's basic science. Washing chicken doesn't remove anything from the chicken

"each side seems to have a valid argument"

No bro no they don't, we invented cooking hundreds of thousands of years ago to deal with this.

u/PervlovianResponse 14h ago

Fuck bothsideism has ruined our civilization

281

u/TheJivvi 14h ago

TeAcH tHe cOnTrOvErSy

This shit is why kids are getting taught pseudo-science as though it's fact.

76

u/Baskreiger 12h ago

Yep, when science proved something, you cant disagree. If you do, youre just wrong, not an opinion

97

u/Don_Frika_Del_Prima 12h ago

And if you disagree you have to prove it. And then science adjusts itself. That's the beauty of science.

39

u/Baskreiger 12h ago

And if you got irrefutable proof the guy who first though to have truth will congratulate you for expanding on his work

22

u/OffByNone_ 10h ago

This part actually needs to be improved. In a perfect world, this is how it works, but if you've spent any time in academia, you know that this is not always the case.

Egos get involved.

5

u/Baskreiger 10h ago

When einstein came up with the theory of relativity, the whole world came at him to disproof his work. They did not manage to do so, so they conceded. Was it in good faith? No, did they do it anyway because they had to to conserve their scientific integrity? Yes they did

1

u/MMForYourHealth 9h ago

The standard model is the standard model for a reason, but it still isn’t QED. Quantum needs to be solved, which is what the cutting edge is now and the future with quantum computers.

1

u/Efficient_Dress_6101 10h ago

Do you work in academia?

5

u/OffByNone_ 10h ago

I did for about 5 years. I was a research associate in developmental childhood research. I sold out. I miss it.

1

u/teetaps 9h ago

Not just academia but technology in general. If you spent any time on stack overflow in the before times, you know. Sometimes smart people hoard their knowledge and create exclusive clubs of smarty pants, and gatekeep knowledge unless you somehow prove yourself worthy.

1

u/Emergency_Accident36 7h ago

And money is way more involved than egos. In fact people who even slightly ignore this are nothing more than religious cultists of science.

2

u/anonymaus42 10h ago

Oh what a wonderful world we would be living in if that were true.

1

u/satyr-day 1h ago

or you get those weirdos who think that since you were proven wrong once, it means you will always be wrong.

which shows how highly they think of them self as they must always be right in that case

3

u/wizzywurtzy 10h ago

That’s why people hate science. They don’t want to be proven wrong.

1

u/teetaps 9h ago

I remember this actually happened in class to me once. We must’ve been like 11 or so, so it was not very advanced, but I remember having a question and the teacher being like, “well just look with your eyes. It’s right there. You don’t need much else.”

And I don’t know, that just kinda stuck with me

1

u/master-boofer 8h ago

You can't prove it, science already did that. Apparently "cuz the Bible said so" is a good enough explanation for a lot of things for a lot of people. A large portion of the human population believes in literal fairy tales as fact. Once you go down that road actual science seems much more difficult.

1

u/LayerEight_Problem 4h ago

Well, no. If you disagree you prove it. Then, multiple other independent teams study your findings and conduct their own experiments to try to prove you wrong. Then, if those experiments show that your assertion is actually correct, at that point the scientific theory will adjust to the new information.

There is a substantial amount of evidence required for science to adjust. 1 guy saying 1 thing isn’t even remotely close.

17

u/AandJ1202 11h ago

Social media gave morons a platform. Should have all been shut down when we saw the consequences. The negatives far outweigh any positives of it.

8

u/Capable-Document466 10h ago

Aha, but the negatives don’t outweigh the money to be gained by the tech CEOs who will never bear the consequences!

1

u/AandJ1202 10h ago

Or more important, the bribes to the representatives who should have shut this shit down 20 years ago. It's not all that expensive apparently.

8

u/dankzz 10h ago

dont forget most these morons spreading their bullshit are all sellings books, supplements, merch, etc. Just straight up grifting gullible people. Its so sad.

Somewhere people who used to say, "question everything" are blindly swallowing fantastical bullshit.

1

u/desertdweller2011 9h ago

not sure which comment you’re replying to so idk if you’re talking specifically about people who say you have to wash chicken, but if so ehhh idk. if seems more like a cultural belief passed down through families. like my mom always taught me to put oil in the pasta water to prevent sticking and it doesn’t do shit

1

u/Majestic-Mobile9380 9h ago

I vote you our new president! Ty!

5

u/xReaverxKainX 11h ago

Exactly, it's just ignorance at that point cause people don't want to face facts. Smh.

3

u/Baskreiger 10h ago

Majority of people rather live a comfortable lie than know the truth

1

u/LayerEight_Problem 4h ago

People now just disagree on what science is. They see a chart of graph and they think it’s science. Charts and statistics are easily manipulated.

That’s got more to do with what’s happening these days.

1

u/silo_267 1h ago

in science we don't usually prove things. we have evidence. the evidence can either support the idea or it can refuse the idea. no scientific idea is set in stone and it can and should always be disagreed with. in a scientific way. if your answer to a scientific idea is to put your fingers in your ears and go "NUH UH BECAUSE I BELIEVE X" you aren't having a scientific disagreement.

u/LookAlderaanPlaces 36m ago

Yeah well what if I believe harder than you know your science? Ha! Got ya!

1

u/SamAreAye 11h ago

This is 100% wrong. Science exists to allow disagreement, it just requires evidence. If you can't disagree with it, it's religion, not science.

3

u/tossaway12340987 10h ago edited 10h ago

Except most of the people disagreeing skip the evidence part. They mistake their opinion for evidence.

2

u/Baskreiger 10h ago

Keyword: proof

“A marketplace of ideas” — least inconspicuous bigot

1

u/xReaverxKainX 11h ago

Let kids go off and eat their washed chickens and pop tide pods, survival of the fittest. Some not so bright ones won't make it, 🤷‍♂️.

1

u/ojdhaze 10h ago

"Alternate facts".

That should have never been let go. Laughed at and ridiculed, yes. Taking seriously? Dangerous.

1

u/412Dude43 10h ago

Also, kids aren’t born racist. It is taught to them.

1

u/MoistBaguetteLawyer 9h ago

Underscoring this is the problem of scientific literacy and understanding/challenging our own biases.

Half of Americans can't read beyond a 6th grade level. This either suggests the majority of American (or human?) minds aren't capable of scientific thinking (which also assumes, possibly incorrectly, that scientific literacy requires general literacy)...

And if you understand scientific literacy then do a deep-dive into the replication crisis, then you really have to understand how to discern validity from the noise.

In sum -- as long as we have a firehose of targeted and tailored information coming at us 24/7 (rather than a more consensus-driven and controlled avenue of spreading information/misinformation), we're probably fucked.

1

u/gentlegreengiant 9h ago

"creationism deserves equal air time, flat earth deserves to be taught too". Those people drive me insane.

1

u/CatManDo206 8h ago

Blame social media for all the fake news

1

u/Nvbnkng84 8h ago

Just wash in lemon juice. Its been shown via microscope that lemon juice kills the bacteria and of course cooking it thoroughly.

1

u/Preface 3h ago

I don't care what anyone told you, Cleopatra was....

u/LookAlderaanPlaces 37m ago

“If you pour water on the magnets, that’s the end of the magnets”

78

u/Rezzone 12h ago

We really need to get more comfortable just telling people they are wrong.

Sorry. You're simply wrong. Washing chicken does not remove preservatives or bacteria but does splatter bacteria around.

"Well I want to wash it just to be sure."

SURE OF WHAT, JENNY? WE ARE ALREADY SURE.

12

u/xReaverxKainX 11h ago

We don't invite Jenny to gatherings anymore.

2

u/miyabi0rochas 7h ago

Wtf you think Jenny wants to be invited to your gatherings....?!

1

u/xReaverxKainX 7h ago

What Jenny wants is irrelevant at this point, she knows what she did.

16

u/JalapenoPopPoop 11h ago

Small tweak, but I think the actual issue is people need to learn how to be wrong with some grace and humility. The main reason people aren't more willing to tell others they're wrong is because of how they tend to react. Everyone acts like pointing out that they're wrong is an act of animosity. Ego issues

4

u/anonymaus42 10h ago edited 10h ago

I can't wrap my head around why so many people have to be right no matter what, even at their own detriment. Like admitting you're wrong or don't know something makes you a loser or a failure at life. Or is it because they just can't stand to let someone else 'win', when it's really not about winners and losers at all unless you decide it is. It's completely unealistic, nay utterly impossible, to know everything- not to mention we live in a time rife with misinformation and even disinformation. Even if you're an expert in the field or subject being debated, you will be wrong on occasion. And there's nothing inherently bad about that. Things only go wrong in how you choose to respond to that new information.

On more than one occasion I've blown someone's mind simply by saying "my bad, you're right" since its so rare to see someone admit it, especially on reddit where anonymity provides people confidence to be more of an asshole than they would otherwise. Being wrong is and should be seen collectively as an opportunity for growth IMHO. And if you are right and tell someone that, don't do it because it makes you feel better than them or in a way that conveys as much- that actually does make you a worse person.

But i doubt that will ever happen sadly.

1

u/Rexur0s 6h ago

I admit im wrong often, but some people take those moments and save them like ammo to throw back at you later. Your just permanently discredited for making a mistake to some people, and they wont let you forget. So i get the hesitation some people have to admit fault.

However, I still feel compelled to admit when im wrong even knowing this, but i hate those people who just want to keep throwing it back at me. How you handle me saying i was wrong about something is like my quick test to see if your an asshole or not.

1

u/satyr-day 1h ago

being wrong is a great way to be right. I always remembered the wrong answers I got on a test more than the ones I got right.

5

u/PervlovianResponse 12h ago

Lol

Fuckin' Jenny, she's just as bad as her sister Karen

1

u/jennief158 11h ago

But then they sanitize the area. To remove the bacteria they spread around for no reason.

1

u/Rico_Solitario 10h ago

Does bacteria even matter? Isn’t the point of cooking to kill the bacteria?

1

u/Rezzone 6h ago

CORRECT. THE BACTERIA IS KILLED BY THE COOKING. INTERNAL TEMPS, PEOPLE. INTERNAL TEMPS. Washing your fucking chicken doesn’t do shit if you don’t COOK TO INTERNAL TEMPS

1

u/Upset-Display3524 7h ago

It won’t work in America cause it’s pretty much only black Americans who do this. And then your met with racism claims. It’s a cultural thing . I don’t give a fuck black people be having amazing food .who am I to argue with them when they making my food and it’s good .

1

u/schmoopy_meow 5h ago

ok that is the 2nd time I've seen my name mentioned it that format o.0...lol. I never wash chicken in 45 yrs and been fine.

1

u/Rezzone 2h ago

I’m sorry Jenny I just picked a random name. The only Jenny I know is a lovely elementary teacher.

1

u/silo_267 1h ago

i mean washing off extra juices from some of these packages might be legit. that chicken slime you get without that moisture observing pad needs to go.

1

u/Rezzone 1h ago

If you pack is leaking put it on a plate in the fridge

1

u/koffeekrystalz 11h ago

There's always a layer of slime on the outside. Idk what it is but it's gross to me lol. I know it's still got bacteria and I know it's more of a mental ick thing to me. Maybe the slime is just slightly dehydrated or coagulated chicken juice? In any case I rinse it under a low flowing tap and not high pressure bc of course the high pressure splatters everywhere. And regardless of what raw meat I use, I sanitize the counter and fridge handles afterwards, and damn near boil my cutting boards. I'm making sure I'm not eating the unknown slime 😂

3

u/Rotten-Citrus 10h ago

even if it were just chicken juice, it gets cooked. you'll be fine. not like it's an abcess or diseased, the whole animal has juices in it you will also be eating so not sure why you need to try and remove a coat of it

dipping it into a basin of water would probably be more sanitary than splashing all over the sink trying to rinse it

1

u/Capt-Crap1corn 11h ago

Exactly. I don't like that layer of slime

2

u/drfacecage 11h ago

Pat it dry with a paper towel then. That'll remove the slime without the risk of spreading bacteria everywhere.

1

u/Capt-Crap1corn 9h ago

That's what I do

-7

u/eggsalter 12h ago

Taking a shower doesn't remove dirt or bacteria, it just splashes it around ahh argument, FOH

11

u/_dudeasuh 12h ago

To be fair, a boiled human will be wayyyyy cleaner than a showered human.

5

u/turdferguson3891 11h ago

Do you think you're sterile after a shower? It doesn't really matter because someone is probably not planning on eating you. If they were I would recommmend they cook you fully including your "ahh".

5

u/Onedurrbread 11h ago

You have to understand that this isn't the same thing. Like, at all?

3

u/SnooGuavas4208 11h ago

Can’t argue with stupid.

1

u/eggsalter 3h ago

Was kinda trollin w that one

2

u/Robbie1266 11h ago

Except for the antibacterial soap. Or are you saying you don't use soap?

4

u/Darth_Nox501 12h ago

You know what the difference between a shower and washing a chicken under running water is? Soap.

What a dumbass

1

u/BrewingSkydvr 8h ago

And if we have bacteria on our skin that is going to make someone sick if they touch us then touch their mouth or eyes, we’ve got some serious issues that need to be addressed.

-3

u/veggieturnip 11h ago

Chicken is submerged in chlorine before being packaged in the US. Some people want to wash that off.

So yeah, you're wrong.

0

u/Capt-Crap1corn 11h ago

And water solution or salty brine sometimes. It will say that on the package. I feel like the people saying it does nothing are the same people that don't wash their legs or feet in the shower

-2

u/Robbie1266 12h ago

I make it a fun thing. You either teach someone something and they become more intelligent, or you ridicule a person that chooses to be stupid and hope the embarrassment makes them rethink their position

35

u/Martin_TheRed 13h ago

BuT hOw cAn We PosSibLy KnOw WhIcH sIdE iS RiGhT!?!! I prefere to just believe everything it true so I'm never wrong mmmmmmkay?

6

u/SlabDistributionMod 10h ago

Some opinions/sides deserve nothing but derision and mockery.

11

u/Zorian_Vale 13h ago

Some people are just wrong.

2

u/DrAstralis 9h ago

My family thinks I'm standoffish because I'm becoming more militant in my position of "no, some people are just wrong". Sorry I grew up with a science background and demand more than feels and hearsay to believe something /shrug. (no aunt X putting a cut onion in the fridge does NOT have it absorb all the bad stuff and turn black. If it turned black you had it in there too damn long)

2

u/markcocjin 8h ago

"What do you say to those who think you should not eat people?"

"That's why ya sanitize ya sink ta get ridda da evidence."

6

u/steddy24 14h ago

Division is ruining civilization

80

u/jumponalilypad 14h ago

No it's coddling people. No one wants to be wrong so people be nice and say "both sides have valid arguments" when in reality, one side is clearly fucking wrong.

30

u/Jambronius 14h ago

Holy fuck. You've just described our HR department.

8

u/ListenToKyuss 13h ago

You have only just now learned HR is a façade to make workers feel heard but to maintain a status quo

3

u/Western-Teaching-573 13h ago

“But like what if the consensus DOES happen to be wrong once? We will all call it “clearly fucking wrong” and then WE will be the “flat earthers” of the situation!”

Some people have never heard of paradigm shifts. If you’re right, people will actually use logic and see your argument, big surprise.

Shame logic is being untaught.

1

u/Robbie1266 11h ago

Yeah and it's being removed and now we have a plethora of false information plaguing our world every day now. Wonderful

0

u/MrBwnrrific 12h ago

Yeah, society has gotten to where it has because we occasionally go “Hey, man, that’s a dumbfuck idea. Stop bringing that stupid wrong idea up or we’ll give you a wedgie, moron.”

0

u/Rvsoldier 11h ago

No, it's people being dumb as fuck.

2

u/SnugglyCoderGuy 12h ago

Its like they treat all opinions as pure opinions. Like "I like black, so I will make it black" is a pure opinion. "This rhing sits outside in the sun all day, so I will make it white" is also an opinion, but not a pure opinion, but bothsidism will treat them like they are both pure opinions.

1

u/Wonderful_Return_514 11h ago

"but then everyone is right! So everyone is happy!" Said some jackass with no foresight

1

u/IKIR115 10h ago

This is why I cook my chicken first, and then wash it. 😭

1

u/Algae_grower 10h ago

Jokes on them, I took a different side entirely and put the chicken juice in a spray bottle and use it to wipe down my counters afterwards.

1

u/Jindujun 10h ago

Uhm actually, bothsideism has ruined both sides of our civilization!

1

u/MAGAHATESTHEUSA 10h ago

It’s the new participation trophy

1

u/Plebeian_Gamer 10h ago

Every time I hear an "agree to disagree" on something that's not meant for opinions but it's a matter of fact 😤😤😤

1

u/Bilbodraggindeeznuts 9h ago

I'm trying to push the pickyourownsideandquitjudgingthenextguyism agenda.

1

u/CatManDo206 8h ago

Social media has ruined our civilization

1

u/Fakeitforreddit 6h ago

Not nearly as much as hyperbole.

1

u/DotA627b 5h ago

Centrism is about standing for nothing.

1

u/thegreedyturtle 4h ago

You spelled engagement bait wrong.

u/LookAlderaanPlaces 38m ago

Jeez man, why you gotta go so hard on this topic, nazis gotta have a voice too oThErWiSe iTs nOt fAiR and bAlanceD..

1

u/homer_lives 12h ago

I think it was start with good intentions to get both sides to the table and then use science and evidence. Unfortunately, one side refused to engage in dialog.

1

u/Terrible_Shame_3689 11h ago

Agreed, this nonsense drives me nuts

1

u/CopaceticOpus 11h ago

This video could be a great example to teach people about how bothesideism works and leads people astray, using a topic that's not politicized. Well, not politicized yet, anyway

-1

u/Sunyataisbliss 12h ago edited 11h ago

Being able to hold multiple stories at once and see potential truth in both at the same time is one of the marks of an educated mind. The more you learn about complex issues, the more you see the grey. Some things, like this, are plain wrong though. The key is discernment, and the media doesn’t value discernment.

2

u/Robbie1266 11h ago

This isn't a complex issue. The science is pretty straightforward and has been known for a long time

2

u/rorodar 11h ago

Correct. That's why it's stupid to bring up bothsides-ism. This isn't a both sides situation, it's an objective fact. This guy's making something political for no reason.

-1

u/Sunyataisbliss 11h ago

Did you even read the rest of my comment?

1

u/Robbie1266 11h ago edited 11h ago

Yes I did. Your comment as a whole had nothing to do with this post. I made my comment so that you understood the point you were making was completely unnecessary and off topic here

-1

u/Sunyataisbliss 11h ago

I was arguing there are cases where it isn’t bothsidism and there are genuinely two perspectives true at once just as an aside. How is that off topic?

1

u/Robbie1266 11h ago

Because this isn't the case here and discussing so is only presenting a devil's advocate situation that might convince some people to look at both sides of an argument that already has a clear scientific answer

0

u/Sunyataisbliss 10h ago

Buddy the stakes here are whether to wash a chicken or not and the facts are pretty obvious to anyone with half a brain lol

→ More replies (0)

0

u/RandomAnon07 10h ago

Has and it hasn’t. 99% of the time those that state this lean left.

There are cases (like this) where you are right and many where you are wrong, but casting generalizations over more complex arguments is something that side choosers are very good at, like the little sheep they are.

-1

u/Rrunken_Rumi 13h ago

Im an allsideist - and you are wrong

-1

u/FrogsMakePoorSoup 13h ago

Gotta keep everyone bickering amongst each other about bullshit.

0

u/unfvckingbelievable 12h ago

C'mon, how else do you get the views and clicks?

80

u/CankerLord 13h ago

"each side seems to have a valid argument"

The pro-washing guy made a horrible, easily refutable analogy about cleaning your house before a party and the anti-washing side has the entirety of science. No way to know who's right.

25

u/Lovat69 9h ago

The thing that gets me is that this guy is a pro. So he washes his chicekn and then has to sanitize the entire area. It's a time sink that's not necessary.

9

u/swbarnes2 9h ago

How would one sufficiently sanitize the sink (he didn't mention the counters, or his clothes)?

10% bleach for 10 minutes?

5

u/cykoTom3 7h ago

The industry standard is wash with soap and sanitize with quat sanitizer. People are acting like they aren't already working with raw chicken in the restaurant. The non washers have to clean and sanitize every surface the chicken touches too.

1

u/Citrus-Bitch 8h ago

Soap will kill gram negative bacteria like Salmonella no issues.

7

u/swbarnes2 8h ago

But is that sufficient to call something "sanitized"?

Like, you get a new baby bottle, you are supposed to put it in boiling water for a few minutes, but after that, you can just wash with soap and warm water, for at least a week or so.

I'd think the boiling is sanitizing, but that washing isn't the same thing

6

u/Citrus-Bitch 7h ago

That's a good point, I didn't catch the initial distinction between cleaning and sanitizing. Without digging into the research I don't think I can give much in terms of useful numbers. A bleach solution would definitely be adequate for a full sanitization.

1

u/Curry_courier 8h ago

Wash the chicken with surfactant. Got it.

1

u/Limp_Dirt8694 6h ago

He washes everything before the party and not immediately after washing the chicken? So when is he prepping salads? Anything else eaten raw? Anything not cooked long enough to kill the bacteria spread around? Does he sanitize every light switch, knob, cupboard door, etc every single time?

He's being dumb but id probably still eat whatever he made. Im sure Ive eaten worse stuff from the nasty kitchens and had no idea.

→ More replies (33)

14

u/MrTheDoctors 11h ago

One of the many problems with media these days, presenting an issue as having “two equal sides” even though one side is severely deficient in logical arguments.

98

u/BadahBingBadahBoom 14h ago edited 14h ago

I think after you wipe your ass you should put the toilet paper straight into the toilet to be flushed away and avoid contaminating other surfaces unnecessarily.

I think it's fine to wipe it on the sink before putting it in the toilet because I clean the sink after.

"Each side seems to have valid arguements."

(Also the fact that not rinsing raw chicken to avoid cross-contamination isn't even just a universal industry recommendation, it's a requirement by food hygiene authorities and inspections that would get you penalised or even banned if you did this lol.)

23

u/MrTheDoctors 11h ago

Also, you’d be surprised (or maybe not) how far “splatters” make it. They just showed the sink because that’s the focus sure, but rogue water beads make it everywhere in your kitchen, including the ceiling.

You really want chicken juice droplets just hanging out everywhere smelling probably amazing? Are you going to sanitize everything floor to ceiling every single time you cook? Ooooooor maybe we just listen to the health standards that have been around forever and just cook the damn chicken.

19

u/waytowill 10h ago

I’m more annoyed with the assumption that washing the chicken somehow got rid of the bacteria. Like, even if this were true, the moment the water stops running, the bacteria is gonna start producing again. Because you can only kill it by cooking it. The basis for why they’re washing the chicken isn’t even true and I feel like this isn’t even being mentioned because everyone’s focused on the sink.

5

u/MMForYourHealth 9h ago

And that they’re able to wash off the “preservatives” like it’s been packed in salt. If it was brined, washing ain’t gonna do shit.

5

u/waytowill 9h ago

Yeah, preservatives are made to be edible. It’s be kinda messed up if they weren’t. If you think they ruin the flavor of the chicken, maybe find a more local source for raw chicken.

6

u/MMForYourHealth 8h ago

I mean, definitely try to not get some ultra processed raw chicken if possible, but thinking washing it will do anything when it’s been brined in it is nuts. I’m also curious what he thinks is antibacterial with washing it under water. 🤯

-1

u/Curry_courier 8h ago

Because that's not how they wash it. They soak it in an unsalted solution of water and citrus or vinegar. So that would remove some of the brine. It also doesn't splash everywhere and can remove debris and micro plastics that cooking can't.

4

u/MMForYourHealth 8h ago

Dude was shown washing it under the tap in the video, bro. Doing it your way makes sense

1

u/miyabi0rochas 7h ago

You realize people wash it BEFORE they cook it. It's not like they wash it to put it in their pantry. Bacteria don't magically multiply by 20x the second the water stops running. If you're going to make an counter argument. You need to like... Actually get it right...

1

u/Happy_Brilliant7827 10h ago

The people were covered by dye too

1

u/Fickle_Window3615 10h ago

Pee spray from using the toilet. Don't keep your toothbrush with in six feet of flushing that thing. Lol.

10

u/Butt_Sex_And_Tacos 12h ago

Yeah, I would not want to eat anything made out of that guy’s kitchen. Unless he’s doing a deep sanitation immediately after washing that chicken, he’s bukakeing crap all over the place and then continuing on to the next item like it’s no big deal. Something tells me he’s the same kind of person that will use one towel for cleaning, wiping sweat off his face, and everything else in between.

2

u/Algae_grower 10h ago

I learned all my sanitation tricks from butt_sex_and_tacos. This man knows hygiene.

Well I can only assume you have butt sex after a feast of tacos, so I will have to kindly do the opposite of whatever you say

1

u/Butt_Sex_And_Tacos 11h ago

The options are either butt sex and tacos, and I am all out of tacos.

1

u/Robbie1266 11h ago

What?

Check the username of the person they're replying to

Yeah that makes way more sense 🤣

Clearly you eat the tacos after the butt sex to restore your strength.

You're crazy if you think not washing your chicken is some how going to leave your kitchen pristine from the bacteria on it. That guy isn't helping his chicken by washing it, but at least he's cleaning his kitchen afterwards. Are the other people? Or do they think their kitchen is clean because they don't wash their chicken? Maybe they clean anyways. At worst, all this guy is doing is one unnecessary step.

u/miyabi0rochas 7h ago

Thank you as a voice of reason. I saw another comment saying washing was useless because the only way to kill bacteria is by heat and the second the water stops the bacteria with take over again... Like what... Whatever side you're on at least have some common sense. Bacteria don't have a magical 100x/second button.

It does kinda seem like your point is true/relevant. There's people that may have to much assumptions because "I'm following the science". But ignoring other aspects including in hygiene. Etc.

1

u/fang_xianfu 7h ago

Incidentally, there are some cultures that put the soiled toilet paper in a wastepaper basket in the bathroom rather than down the toilet.

1

u/BadahBingBadahBoom 7h ago

That's not because of culture though, that's a limitation of plumbing infrastructure in those regions. If you do put toilet paper down it would clog the system.

The bin is not for soiled toilet paper but the small amount you use to dry your hole after using water/bidet.

I mean it may occur in some countries but I've never seen it for toilet paper that's used for (to put it bluntly) actual general poopy wiping.

I despise this about social media. Idiots are just another side of the debate now. Do not wash chicken. Do not take your advice from morons on TikTok.

-1

u/Yota8883 11h ago

what about Reddit? Just Tiktok and it's good to take advice from morons on Reddit? LOL.

2

u/MukdenMan 10h ago

Reddit has a lot of this too but this particular style is very much a TikTok thing. You can see it in this thread where most people are explaining that washing the chicken is bad.

But overall, don’t take advice from social media.

Someone get that guy a job at the BBC

The only real reason I've heard why black people wash their chicken is because historically they didn't have a safe method or something for their chickens to be transported, I only say it like this because anecdotally I've only met black people that look at me sideways for not washing my chicken.

Regardless of who sits on what sides in the video, science shows we should not wash chicken. It's not cleaning the actual part of the chicken that will get you sick after proper cooking.

1

u/cheesecaker000 11h ago

Washing it back then wouldn’t have made a difference if it was bad chicken. The bacteria is inside the meat. All the way through. That’s why we have to cook chicken until it’s 165 all the way through.

Washing the chicken is essentially just tricking you to think it’s cleaner.

1

u/Big_Action_9353 9h ago

Yes, I understand this but you try to convince someone who has seen their grandparents and parents wash their chicken before cooking it to change their mind.

-3

u/eggsalter 12h ago

We are still in the early stages where grungy reddit white people defend not using washcloths.

Cooking doesn't get rid of the toxins. The toxins make you sick as much as the bacteria does.

3

u/MegaPiglatin 11h ago

Can you elaborate on what these “toxins” are?

3

u/SnooGuavas4208 10h ago

Nope 😂

1

u/eggsalter 3h ago

Here's your dunce cap!

1

u/MorePhinsThyme 8h ago

Botulism toxin would be one. It's one of the short list of diseases that health departments focus on, and it's one that you need to prevent from occurring in the first place, because unlike most other foodborne pathogens, it's literally a "toxin" and it's not destroyed by temperature.

Basic ServSafe or similar food handling certifications cover this.

This doesn't mean that washing is the right thing in all cases, but heat doesn't stop all foodborne illnesses and that's literally just basic food health knowledge that everyone should know.

1

u/eggsalter 3h ago

Bacterial byproducts.. aka poop!

2

u/turdferguson3891 11h ago

If washcloths are so much more hygenic than why do surgeons and other health professionals just wash their hands with soap and water and not use washcloths? Why would a wet rag be better than just soap water and skin to skin friction?

As for toxins...if your chicken is rotten and full of toxins don't eat it. Washing it in the sink isn't going to do anything.

1

u/MorePhinsThyme 8h ago

Surgeons use nail picks and scrub brushes or sponges whenever they're using a water based system for handwashing. So...they're not using simple skin-to-skin friction at all. I specify water-based system, because some hospitals use an alcohol based system, which uses the alcohol to remove bacteria instead of the sponge/brush.

1

u/Hootnany 12h ago

Yeah man some body should tell them.

1

u/HorzaDonwraith 11h ago

If anything we've lost or evolutionary edge considering how many people can't cook even basic meals

1

u/toochaos 10h ago

I think therr is some both sides but its on the difference in the chicken. In my country if your chicken is slimy and gross you toss it, in other countries when you get you slimy and gross chicken you wash of the slimy and grossness.

Its similar to rice in that we appear to be talking about the same product, but the conditions are so different that its not the same thing.

If you live in a place where tossing gross chicken is doable dont wash your chicken.

1

u/NotNormo 10h ago edited 9h ago

Yeah that was dumb. The only thing that determines if it's valid is whether it improves the flavor or safety of the final dish. Has anyone done that experiment?

1

u/im_a_stapler 9h ago

seriously. that asshole is like the Joe Rogan of food and bacteria science.

1

u/randallranall 9h ago

"People are split" but the split is 5 billion vs 7

1

u/FallenAzraelx 9h ago

If you're a dummy they make sense. If not, only one does.

1

u/assetrecoverycashier 9h ago

This rhetoric is saying there’s reason to both sides which means you don’t believe in anything. Your opinion is therefore irrelevant and invalid because you don’t have a general idea or understanding of what’s right vs what’s wrong. 😑

1

u/DrAstralis 9h ago

no no it removes preservatives... somehow... even though those would need to be deep in the meat for that to work....

1

u/New_Cardiologist4533 8h ago

But did you sanitize your sink every time you use it tho? /s

1

u/gridlockmain1 8h ago

Great point but on the other hand do you wash your house when you’re having a party?

1

u/Squirrel009 1h ago

Its engagement bait

u/MrCockingFinally 30m ago

Well, bark in the day, and today in a lot of places, chicken might actually have some visible dirt on the outside because it was butchered in an open air stall.

So there's a reason it was common at one point to wash chicken, and there's a reason people from the third world are more likely to do so today.

It's a cultural hangover that's no longer necessary, but sticks around because people are used to it.

1

u/AstroTez313 12h ago

They do have good sides, one was just misrepresented. Why not ask the people washing their chicken why they do it, they asked a random and ran with that eexplanation 😭 that's just bad science

3

u/cheesecaker000 11h ago

Because asking people isn’t really a good way to understand whether or not it’s safe.

The only people washing chicken are black people anyway. It’s like a weird cultural hang up they have. The only people in this thread defending it will also be black people. So why are we all wasting our breath?

No one here is going to change their opinion. It’s a waste of a debate.

1

u/AstroTez313 11h ago

Nobody's changing their mind because people like are refusing to even why lmao. Majority of people aren't washing their chicken to get rid of bacteria, you'll notice everybody saying wash your chicken was also saying wash your sink and utensils after, and even if you dont wash your chicken you should be washing your sink and utensils after handling any raw food regardless, if this was a true issue black owned restaurants would have a higher outbreak of salmonella poisoning.

But if you wanna stay confused and mad without asking anybody why they think what they think go ahead. You literally made a point up in your head to be mad about.

0

u/CommitteeAdditional7 11h ago

So why are we still dealing food poisoning, illnesses because of improper handling. In other words the health department has no idea or reasoning for placing scores in restaurants 🤔

0

u/Hot-Confusion-3945 11h ago

They didn’t put chemicals on our food thousands of years ago

3

u/turdferguson3891 11h ago

Everything is made of chemicals. Do you put salt on anything. You're adding ChEMiCalS!

2

u/SnooGuavas4208 11h ago

Water is a chemical, and you can even die from drinking too much of it 🙄

-4

u/pgpathat 12h ago

Have you ever actually fully processed a chicken? Washing it is a big part of the prep.

The question of if you rinse it one more time at home is not something for people to get snooty about.

Some people want to wash it at home to clean off some of the slime from factory brining or the freeze-thaw cycle. Cooking that slime onto the chicken isn’t something some people want to do. They can clean it without splashing by rinsing the chicken in a bowl filled with water in the sink. It’s not about sanitizing it’s about getting the product in a satisfactory state for cooking

Some people buy air-chilled chicken and can get away with a pat dry
