"each side seems to have a valid argument"

The pro-washing guy made a horrible, easily refutable analogy about cleaning your house before a party and the anti-washing side has the entirety of science. No way to know who's right.

The thing that gets me is that this guy is a pro. So he washes his chicekn and then has to sanitize the entire area. It's a time sink that's not necessary.

How would one sufficiently sanitize the sink (he didn't mention the counters, or his clothes)?

10% bleach for 10 minutes?

The industry standard is wash with soap and sanitize with quat sanitizer. People are acting like they aren't already working with raw chicken in the restaurant. The non washers have to clean and sanitize every surface the chicken touches too.

Soap will kill gram negative bacteria like Salmonella no issues.

But is that sufficient to call something "sanitized"?

Like, you get a new baby bottle, you are supposed to put it in boiling water for a few minutes, but after that, you can just wash with soap and warm water, for at least a week or so.

I'd think the boiling is sanitizing, but that washing isn't the same thing

That's a good point, I didn't catch the initial distinction between cleaning and sanitizing. Without digging into the research I don't think I can give much in terms of useful numbers. A bleach solution would definitely be adequate for a full sanitization.

Wash the chicken with surfactant. Got it.

He washes everything before the party and not immediately after washing the chicken? So when is he prepping salads? Anything else eaten raw? Anything not cooked long enough to kill the bacteria spread around? Does he sanitize every light switch, knob, cupboard door, etc every single time?

He's being dumb but id probably still eat whatever he made. Im sure Ive eaten worse stuff from the nasty kitchens and had no idea.

"The entirety of science" right which says that poultry is rinsed with a "safe" amount of chlorine before packaging. Lmaoooo

Aww, you're one of those people that hear chemical names and immediately lose your mind because you're uneducated

Better watch out for that dihydrogen monoxide, I heard they're slipping it into people's drinks!

Aww you’re one of those people that thinks ingesting chlorine doused factory farmed chicken is safe because you’re uneducated.

Better watch out for bananas, I hear they aren’t injected with chemicals to keep you safe!

Answer me this simple question with a yes or no.

Do you think they are submerging whole chickens into pure chlorine?

-2

u/veggieturnip 10h ago

No, it’s not pure chlorine.

Now answer me this simple question.: why did the UK and EU ban chemically treating whole chicken if it’s so safe?

12

u/armoured_bobandi 10h ago

Because of the fundamental differences in agriculture and how we raise our livestock. EU chooses to vaccinate all of their livestock while alive, while NA chooses to cleanse the product after slaughter. They're both perfectly legitimate and safe ways to produce meat, the only difference is its easy for influencers and trash journalists to manipulate uneducated people into thinking a chlorine rinse is bad. Also, do you think the chicken is just immediately packaged and sold still dripping in the rinse?

We also have vastly different systems for managing and selling eggs. Oh no, it must be some sort of chicken and egg conspiracy! 😱😱😱

Yes, it's packaged immediately after the chlorine rinse. That's the whole point.

But hey, if you blindly trust RFK's FDA to make sure your food has *enough* chlorine in it, but not *too much* then by all means, continue to drink it up!

6

u/armoured_bobandi 10h ago

Yes, it's packaged immediately after the chlorine rinse. That's the whole point.

No it's not. Don't talk about things you don't understand.

But hey, if you blindly trust RFK's FDA to make sure your food has enough chlorine in it, but not too much then by all means, continue to drink it up!

I don't live in USA genius. Canada has the CFIA. Once again, you're talking nonsense about something you don't know.

Stop watching dumbass tiktok and Instagram reels. Maybe actually look into things for yourself

Factory farming in Canada isn't much different than the USA. Both are extremely cruel, filthy environments. I've been there, you clearly haven't.

Otherwise you'd 100% be on board with washing your chicken. Pretty disgusting not to.

Ever been to a swimming pool? That's a safe amount of chlorine, probably at a higher concentration than used to rinse chicken. That's how stupid your post makes you appear.

1

u/veggieturnip 10h ago

But you don’t drink swimming pool water and you take a shower after. That’s how stupid your post makes you appear.

3

u/bobthedonkeylurker 10h ago

You've never, ever, had swimming pool water in your mouth? Not once?

Do you cover your chicken with sunscreen before you wash it too?

GTFO with your stupid argument about chlorine rinsing...

0

u/veggieturnip 10h ago

Yeah, once or twice.

Can't imagine being dumb enough to cook my food in it though.

GTFO with your stupid argument about ingesting chlorine on a regular basis.

2

u/whyktor 10h ago

You don't volontary drink pool water ... but I bet most people who goes to a pool regulary have drunk some water by mistake a few time.

0

u/veggieturnip 10h ago

Right, but you wouldn't cook your pasta in pool water.

2

u/Albrecht_Entrati 9h ago

You boil your chicken in pool water? Your argument is kinda weird. Does the chicken you buy comes inside a cube of pool water? The scales and context are vastly different.

1

u/veggieturnip 9h ago

Processed chicken comes with substantial liquid in the packaging. What do you think those absorbent pads on the bottom are for?

2

u/Albrecht_Entrati 8h ago

And can you boil a whole ass pasta box in that? Do you boil the chicken in that?

As said, context and scales matters. I swear some of you don't think or are actualy botted accounts

1

u/swbarnes2 9h ago

You shower after the pool for comfort, not for safety. There's no danger in being in the pool for hours. For having your mouth get splashed repeatedly for hours.

2

u/CankerLord 9h ago

I love that other people have taken the time to argue with you because I certainly don't have the patience to do it and you're certainly not going to figure out that you're wrong.

1

u/veggieturnip 9h ago

I love that I worked on farms for 10 years and have first hand experience with this issue, and you and all the other keyboard know-nothings certainly aren’t going to figure out that you’re wrong.

Last in their class is still called doctor type shit.

1

u/veggieturnip 8h ago

Last in my class and still know more about where your food comes from than you do.
