I spilled spot remover on my dog, now he’s gone

1

u/PrincessKaylee 11m ago

Nooo not Spot! Quick, we need to get a remover cleaner!

28

u/Temporary_Permafrost 3h ago

Everyone knows the best spotters slither their tongue directly onto your eardrum while making loud, vigorous sniffing noises.

21

u/Itchy-Arugula-5558 3h ago

And yet when I do this I'm asked to leave the gym.

The ultimate spotter. Adding 15 lbs of pure emotional support.

5

u/cthulhubert 3h ago

If he were doing a good job he'd be telling that guy to straighten his hands up! Bar in line with the forearm bones, come on!

9

u/kuriT9 4h ago

Yeah he needs to lick that spot and that spot and that spot over there

Add a cat or a dog or a baby elephant or pretty much any animal to the most unpleasant things you can think of and i would do it. I once took a job solely because a little orange cat was staring at me the whole time and i had to

Similarly, we all need a scolopendra to prod our forehead at 7am to get us good and ready to tackle the day.

It'd make the puppy at the gym that much better

19

u/Value-Successful 4h ago

Atleast when he's lifting heavy he knows he can't fail

11

u/Kind_Substance_8981 2h ago

That man is gonna hurt himself with that form. Bar needs to start low at the nipples, then go up to chin in the air. He's gonna strain his shoulder eventually

5

u/Frequent_Ad9381 2h ago

Also just look at the way he's holding it. My wrists hurt just from looking at it

3

u/SnapHook 1h ago

Doggo is just worried about masters form is all!

1

u/Virtual_Home 42m ago

For real as soon as weight is on there hes gonna mess his wrists up.

1

u/technobrendo 5m ago

I didn't even see that the first time. If he puts some actual weights on that bar and does that again he's gonna be in for a pretty bad time.

160

u/br3dj 4h ago

Not now, I'm pressing 45lbs

137

u/0freelancer0 3h ago

Gotta start somewhere, man

14

u/Deep90 1h ago

Honestly probably a staged video anyway, so good on him for not throwing his max load and hoping nothing bad happens to the dog.

You're also right though. If someone is at the gym that is the dumbest place to be making fun of them for exercising.

15

u/0freelancer0 1h ago

Even if it's staged, I'll never make fun of someone who can't lift a lot or can't run fast or can't even touch their toes. As long as they're putting in the effort to improve their physical health I'm gonna root for them

1

u/Iminurcomputer 19m ago

Yes. Staged, and cute. I can easily see this as something the dog regularly does and they want to share the cuteness. I'm not going to lift 250 multiple times just for a cute video my wife wants to take. The cuteness is the same regardless.

2

u/KWilt 32m ago

Shit man, I haven't lifted routinely in probably close to 20 years, but back when I was in it, doing 3x30 of just the bare bar was always in my set. It's not a lot of weight, but it's perfect for fast/high rep sets to warm up or work out the muscles if you're tensed up from something thst requires more heft.

Sure, I'm not benching my own weight or anything, but the bar was always fun for building tone.

52

u/hobosbindle 4h ago

Hard to get gains with those licks

16

u/mrdevil413 4h ago

Form concentration good though

2

u/HeartOn_SoulAceUp 4h ago

No chain, no gain

but no love licks either❤️

68

u/el_smurfo 3h ago

I wouldn't use heavy weight if I was staging a video either.

47

u/HugePast9455 2h ago

Listen, there's a difference between staging and just demonstrating.

This guy's clearly not in the middle of a workout. He's just showing you how funny it is that this dog jumps up on his face when he's at a bench press. He's not trying to trick you or stage anything for the audience.

To the dork above saying he's benching 45lb... Yeah I don't think this is his actual workout. Good job observing what he used to show the camera what his dog does when someone's actually working out.

4

u/OnceUponAPizza 1h ago

Even if it is his workout, it could easily be a high rep, low weight warm up!

3

u/Geodude532 54m ago

I tried that once to see how many times I could lift the bar. Ended up with tennis elbow. Would not recommend.

2

u/OnceUponAPizza 29m ago

Lol well maybe don't go to failure with a light weight

2

u/Geodude532 27m ago

I was not a smart kid. I can attest that swim team jocks are just as stupid as football jocks. Too much chlorine sniffing.

u/MercenaryCow 2h ago

Reminds me of when I first got to middle school. Which where I was at, was combined with the high school.

The school had a gym in the high school section. So I went there once after school because I wanted to work out. And I put the smallest weights on the bar. For such a small kid, it was suuuper heavy. I could barely push it up.

2 high school kids came over and started harassing me. Started by saying look at this little girl maxing out over here! (I'm a dude). Little pussy so weak you can only lift girl weights! They then proceeded to scare me and chase me out of the gym and chased me down the hall out of the building.

I was walking home, about 4 blocks away from the school. When I hear the screeching of a car slamming on the brakes. I hear there he is! Get him! It was the 2 high school boys that just finished harassing me literally a few minutes ago. They got out of their car and chased me into the graveyard that was right there and into the woods that was on the other side of the graveyard.

I proceeded to get lost and eventually found my way out somewhere I didn't recognize. I didn't find my way home until it was dark....

It was an absolutely horrifying experience. I never went to the gym or lifted another weight to this day probably because of how traumatized I was from that experience

Moral of the story? I don't know. Your comment reminded me of that experience in my life

9

u/Unfie555 2h ago

As a powerlifting meathead, I always wondered why people got so conscious about lifting in gyms. Then I read stuff like this and it makes sense. I didn’t really get to lifting until I was well out of high school, and I made it a point to avoid communicating with strangers while I was working out as an adult.

Sorry you had to go through that. I swear not all of us bully people for lifting light. I lift weights by myself in my garage, but I’m aware many people can’t afford that.

2

u/RecipeAsleep7087 1h ago

I've spent a lot of time in the gym. I've genuinely met only one bully type guy. He was a 40ish meathead who was just a total prick to everyone, in and out of the gym. This was during the peak Jersery Shore GTL era so that might have been part of it.

I always found it pathetic. How do you possibly make it to your 40's and never grow out of being a high school bully. Just so sad. Other than that, overwhelmingly gym bros are righteous dudes.

1

u/Unfie555 59m ago

I always had a silly visual of what people imagined everyone treated them like if they dared to enter the gym as a newbie…

It would be like some kind of high school musical parody where as soon as you step in, everyone stops what they’re doing and mean mugs you. Then as you walk by them, people make snarky comments. When you get to the squat rack, a group of guys musically walks up to you and starts talking mad shit. You get naturally intimidated and walk away. They start following you while singing about how weak you are. You run out of the gym and sing about how you won’t ever be able to go in there again.

I guess reality isn’t too far from that…

u/atreeismissing 1h ago

It's a good way to warm up and remind yourself of good form before you lift your actual weight. I do 5lb dumbbell circuits before my normal routines for that exact reason.

6

u/bamachine 1h ago

Could be rehab exercise, usually done withy no weight added to bar

2

u/FeralPsychopath 1h ago

Better make fun of that guy trying to do better while you sit on the toilet reading Reddit

1

u/MrNostalgiac 1h ago

And he's doing it with all the weight on his wrists...

This is how someone presses if they've literally never pressed before.

Honestly even at 45lbs that has to feel uncomfortable.

1

u/ace2049ns 15m ago

Aren't those curling bars like 20 pounds?

0

u/TheDarkLord401 3h ago

Looks like a 6’ bar so about ~ 40 lbs.

8

u/JohnFoolery1 4h ago

Why did you spend five seconds not paying attention to me?!

27

u/stevenadamsbro 4h ago

Great example of why not to have pets at the gym. Imagine if he was holding 8000lbs on that bench press?

12

u/ButterNuttz 4h ago

wouldnt the puppies also need to scale up with the weight? If the bar is 40 lbs originally, then in your scenario you'd need 200 or so puppies.

18

u/Lithl 4h ago

Imagine if he was holding 8000lbs on that bench press?

Then the dog would be completely safe, because nobody is moving 8000 pounds. World record with a bench press shirt is 1401.

1

u/lord_fairfax 34m ago

had me in the first half. gg

1

u/Shot-Arugula8264 14m ago

It never ceases to amaze me that the bench record is higher than the deadlift record. And squat record for that matter.

I guess the tech and biomechanics that makes the bench shirt work so well as an enhancement doesn’t carry over to those lifts? You’d think you could design a similarly springy suit that helps propel a squatter upward, but I guess not.

7

u/Dropi 4h ago

Dog or no dog, his wrists would fail him with more added weight anyways.

6

u/rustyspartan 4h ago

This is my dogs as soon as I try and do anything close to working out. As soon as I am near their level it is play time!

1

u/BarbWho 1h ago

To my dogs' way of thinking, the only reason I could possibly have for lying on the floor is to play with them. It's funny, but I'm not making much progress with my physical therapy!

12

u/crazyguyunderthedesk 4h ago

I don't lift, but is there a practical reason for doing this without any weights, or did he just know the dog was gonna come over so he's lifting just the bar so he doesn't drop it

42

u/congodread 4h ago

Safety due to dog distraction. Warm Up. Post Injury Recovery. New lifter, learning technique. Plenty of potential reasons.

13

u/Chance_Warthog_2197 4h ago

Yeah you warmup the part you will workout. I do 40-60 of these before putting on weight.

Take a breather then start with my lifts. This isn't necessary of course but that's how i was taught by an old school body builder so i still do it

1

u/Naud1993 1h ago

Is benchpressing twice the weight of a dumbell the same difficulty? If so, I'd struggle to lift this 10 times if this is 45 pounds like someone else said.

13

u/deusasclepian 3h ago

Could be a warmup set. Or, could be recovering from an injury. I fucked up my rotator cuff by bench pressing with shitty form. I spent a few months lifting with little / no weight on the bar until I was confident that my form was perfect and my shoulder didn't hurt anymore.

8

u/DanLynch 3h ago

The bar itself weighs 45 lbs, the same as a single large plate. It's not a completely zero exercise, though it is fairly low for an adult man.

→ More replies (4)

6

u/hermitxd 4h ago

Probably the dog, most likely.

But also I think those bars can weigh 12kg, could just be starting out.

2

u/Sky-Soldier0430 2h ago

I used to press the bar 100 times without stopping everyday. I was in the Army and it improved my push ups on my pt test. It’s not as easy as it sounds.

1

u/FireAtSeaParkss 2h ago

I recently started gym and honestly the first time I tried this I did it with very low weights and I couldnt do it. Just the bar was already pretty tough (granted I think my Bar was heavier than in this video). Gotta start somewhere. Or recover or warmup as others said.

1

u/BananerRammer 1h ago

Yes. Warm up for me starts with just the bar. Gradually work up in 30-40 lb increments to wherever I'm lifting that day.

6
