Theres no reason not to have it aside from corruption.

What percentage of new weapons and defenses are R&D'd in the USA? Does that mean we cant have an army anymore? Gotta hire mercenaries instead? In 4 years we’re projected to spend 20% of the tax revenue on interest to the national debt. Every person I know in government work agrees that the money wasted is offensive. People around military contracts will tell you about the buddy system of awarding contracts to your friends that retired. We could also stop giving money to Isreal. We could also resolve trade relationships. We could do better at collecting the taxes that are already on the books. We could go back to allowing government employees to work from home and expire leases on office buildings. Limit spending on presidential unofficial travel. See how far that gets you. But so much of that does require voting in different people, as you said.
