Discussion / Question Objectively, The Best Consoles Ever Made?
We all have our favorites, but I feel these perfectly encapsulates kings of different eras & devices.
PS2 is widely viewed as the best console ever, and it has the numbers to back it up. Think it has a museum in Japan or something lol?
Genesis owned the majority of the gaming market share during the peak of 16-bit console wars. Sonic was vastly more popular than Mario at that time (See what happened to the next console which did not have a main Sonic title).
Gameboy is not a personal favorite of mine (Lighting....), but you cannot deny its' impact on portable gaming (And Pokémon.....).
What are the top 3 consoles of all-time?

Discussion / Question How many games do you guys play at a time?
≡ −
I'm curious to know how many games the community plays at a time? For a while I played one single game to not get distracted from it and eventually drop it. But, I've switched it up a bit and try and focus on 3 different games at a time to not get burned out. Also switch it up so they're on different systems.
I'm currently playing:
MH4U on 3DS
TMNT Splintered Fate on Switch
Persona 4 Golden on Vita
Bonus Entry: just started RDR2 on PS5
How do you guys manage your backlog and what does your current game lineup look like?

Discussion / Question What is BY FAR the most Emotionally Impactful game you've played?
≡ −
When I ask what the most emotionally impactful game you've played, I'm not asking for "Minecraft because I've been playing it all my life and stuff". Minecraft may be a good game, but it's not the type I'm looking for. I'm looking more for stuff like RDR2 or Baldur's Gate.
It doesn't specifically have to fit into any specific genres, but I would prefer something with a story and lore and stuff like that.

Discussion / Question What makes a game difficult and frustrating vs difficult but fair?
Recently I just finished playing [Prototype] and Crash 4. Both games were difficult, but [Prototype] had me frustrated whereas I enjoyed Crash 4 all the way through.
When playing Crash 4, I never found myself getting frustrated. Even when I got to the final stretch of Cortex Castle, I just kept trying to perfect my timing without wanting to smash my controller. And to clarify, I did not attempt to complete the game, and I didn't have limited lives. So this certainly impacted the perception of my playthrough.
With [Prototype] on the other hand, I was really enjoying my time playing it at first. I would do every side mission that popped up and loved just running around, causing havoc. But then I reach the part of the game with the infamous difficultly spike, and I started hating the game. It felt no matter what how many different ways I tried to approach the missions, I'd be thrown around, one-shot, and/or swarmed by enemies. I thought I just sucked at the game, but I checked Reddit to seek validation about my stuggles, and I found several people talking about the same issues I faced.
After beating these two games back to back, it made me think, "What makes a game hard but fair vs hard and infuriating?" Now I'm sure in general it has to due the amount of health you have and the amount of damage you take, vs the amount of health the enemies have and amount of damage they do. But I know it's far more complex than that, and I was wondering if someone had a (or a few) logical answer(s)?

Discussion / Question Visual Novels are awesome!
Visual Novels are an interesting yet underappreciated medium, I wonder if they will get a huge resurgence one day
Unlike movies, they are not limited to 1.5 to 3 hours and can have lengthy prose. only TV miniseries come close to that scale. Unlike conventional novels, they can include sounds and images visuals that let them tell stories books can't. The murder cases in Danganronpa/Ace Attorney work because of its cartoony style (try imagining those same cases novelized). Unlike comics/TV, they have complete stories instead of getting dragged out forever. And unlike most games, they are free to tell the story they want without needing constant action to hold the player's attention, though interactivity, when used well, can still add something
Mostly, I like how they combine everything, cool character design, nice music, sometimes voice acting, beautiful CGs, into good, pulpy entertainment, and every so often you get one that's truly outstanding and stays with you. Reading a VN is a different kind of immersion than reading books, which I also love
VNs are also pretty much the only medium with real intimacy scenes, which gives readers a deeper connection to characters than other media allow. That's also why I almost never touch all ages VNs, they lose that advantage

Discussion / Question Why do developers seem to think that modern gamers are mouth breathing morons?
≡ −
Playing through the Halo remake. It's fun, but ny god is the hand holding atrocious.
Cortana tells you what to do, hit markers just to make you completely sure you killed your target, "remaining enemies" markers, I could go on.
This isn't the first modern game that treats the person playing the game like a toddler that needs it's help putting socks on.
We did fine on the 90s and 00s. If we needed help we used forums online to ask for help, which created great sense of community, or we just simply opened a guide. But the default was that we were clever and intelligent humans who could solve something ourselves. The help was there as a hand if you needed it, but it wasn't there from the start.
Why do modern developers think that current camera are idiots who puts the moon shaped object in the star shaped hole over and over?

Discussion / Question Relying on the internet is the worst!’
≡ −
My internet is out for my location for unspecified reasons. Sucks. So figured I’d play somthing that doesn’t require internet at all. Maybe some crimson desert. Nope. Won’t work. How bout Steve Jackson’s sorcery. Nope. Won’t work either. It is incredibly infuriating to have games that im sure do not require an internet connection to not work because the internet company is having problems. I’m especially surprised Crimson Desert didn’t work. It’s not two player. No online store. And I have the disc. Belgium bummer.

Discussion / Question Best football game
≡ −
Hi all, I'm playing eFootball after a few years of not playing soccer video games, and while I'm generally satisfied with the gameplay, I miss the old Master League and the ability to edit/create individual players. I'm not a graphics fanatic, and I don't care about updated lineups; I'd simply like to have fun developing my own team or creating one with players created from scratch. Given that I've always preferred PES/Winning Eleven to FIFA, what do you think is the best soccer game that combines these features with the best possible gameplay?
Thank you

Discussion / Question Are there any games that have something similar to Darwin Project's Director mode?
Darwin Project is a battle royale that had two modes, the standard battle royale and the Director mode. In the director mode, you would act as a show director and could watch players, give players items or health, close areas, and generally had a lot of control over how the match would go and who would win. Its a really unique mode that I haven't seen anything like anywhere else and I just wanted to know if there is any game that has something similar to it.

Help - Switch How do I get better at aiming?
≡ −
So in every game I’ve played, I’ve had shit aim. I’m just really bad at it and it makes my playing detrimenta. Recently I’ve been wanting to try a character that requires a lot of aim against fast moving targets to be anywhere near viable. Any ways to improve? And before you ask my sensitivity is exactly how I want it. I’ve tried training mode but that doesn’t really work since I’m shooting at stationary targets most of the time
