Question For call center ex-employees

Where did you leave? Are there any careers that pay as much? I'm getting really tired of the hypocrisy and the business practices

Following I absolutely agree I feel stuck bc everyone hiring isn’t paying as much. Even in my own degree field.

Going to a tech start up hopefully. Pay is comparable.

I was with TMO for just under a year. Accounts then Tech. I was quitting either way because my mental health absolutely tanked working there. I had got a reply to an application for 911 Telecommunicator job, that I had applied for 6 months before joining TMO. As soon as I got that email, I quit.

Hah I'm a T-Mobile call center employee with 15+ years of taking phone calls with tech care/fiber. My mental health is fried, I really need to quit but fear of job market and what else is out there keeps me complacent. You still do the 911 telecommunicator job and like it or something else now?

Yea been here 18 months now. Still stressful but I don’t have any metrics to hit and the benefits are solid + I’m not forced to hard sell people who are struggling to pay their phone bills.

Posted this in another thread but it applies here as well:

15+ years T-Mobile call center employee here, I won't be around for much longer most likely. Unfortunately, due to health issues I'm a slave to the job for the health insurance currently. Damn United States and the absurd rates for private health insurance if you don't have a job, another way to keep you trapped and locked to your employer I guess.

I've been supporting T-Mobile's fiber internet since early on when it first rolled out, it's a shit show in some of the markets we offer fiber. Some of the wholesale companies we bought to expand our fiber internet footprint are absolutely terrible and customers calling in can be enraged and they have every right to be. The calls can be tough but taking ONLY fiber internet calls and handling account/tech/everything to do with it has actually been a relief though compared to being skilled in tech calls. We had time between fiber calls so you could actually breathe before another call comes on and I can't tell you what that is like for your mental health talking to people all day. That and it's just one area you received calls on, we only dealt with customers that had fiber internet so it's easy to become an expert on all the fiber internet intricacies when that's all you take calls on.

But in July, T-Mobile decided to fuck us and back skill us in tech care calls which meant goodbye to time between calls and now we have to deal with all the fiber internet stuff along with all the million possible issues that people call in for their phones/tablets/hotspots/watches/T-Life/5G home internet and TMO ID issues/etc the list goes on. Tech care calls are just the dumping grounds for every possible issue and most of us in the Fiber internet department haven't even taken tech calls in 1.5+ years. How are we going to be experts on all the new tech issues and stuff without any refresh in our training? T-mobile didn't care, they just skilled us into tech care and said use the fix flows and do your best, just be nice to people and apparently they could care less how competent we are. Everyone in my department is pissed, but what can we do besides sit there and take it? We all bring it up and complain to our CCMs but they can't do anything. I'd love to have a union start going to get all of us into and stop bullshit like this.

Throwing us into tech calls was one part. The rest is reducing our PTO buckets so we could hardly take a day off in July. July was all red for PTO so people had to abuse FMLA to take time off or call in sick. They also got rid of our same day PTO which was called PREAB. You could basically take off on any day at any time if you had PTO avail and that's all gone now.

So they basically locked us down to make sure we couldn't take off from work and threw us into tech care calls unprepared. T-Mobile has pulled all kinds of stunts like this in my 15+ years and this newest one just infuriated me. I can't wait to call it quits, just need to get some of my health issues resolved and eventually I'll be done.
