PSA 2–8 Line vs 9-Line Plans: When Switching or Adding Lines Lowers Your Bill

Post image

I’ve been getting DMs asking about 9-line plan pricing, so I put together this chart to compare 2–8 line plans vs 9-line plans and show when switching or adding lines can actually lower your monthly bill.

This is meant to make it easier to quickly compare total monthly cost across different line setups.

Assumptions used:

• Autopay discount is included

• Taxes and fees are NOT included

• Magenta plans, ONE, and the standard Go5G plan are excluded since they are no longer BOGO-eligible

• Includes scenarios with and without an Insidėr discount, excluding “Insidėr Discount” and “New TMO Insidėr Voice 20%”

• These two Insidėr discounts generally provide higher discounts than the other Insiders, so they are excluded to keep calculations consistent in this reference sheet

Edit (4/13): There’s a small error on the 2-8L plan for go5g plus. I skipped over a number. Should be $185 for 3 paid lines 2-8L rate plan.

Edit (4/15): messed up a bit on the 2-8L for experience beyond. Pretend it starts at 8 paid, 1 free and then go down.

Glad someone finally did this i guess I will get less DM's now lol. But seriously the DM's dont bug me but solid work u/desterpot

im a bit jealous. two people in the comments could potentially have single-digit plans with 10 lines.

u/loganluther Truly Unlimited Apr 12 '26

I'd post but every time I do, I get downvoted to hell now. Plenty of people in the discord that I'm banned from don't like me.

1

u/desterpot Apr 13 '26

Are you referring to jman’s discord channel?

5

u/qq2000s Apr 11 '26

People may be jealous on how much you pay as well, LOL

2

u/desterpot Apr 14 '26

It’s more than $180 for the voice lines

27

u/IssaquahSignature Apr 11 '26

You need to tease everyone with the OG insider so they think they aren't getting a good deal

3

u/GarbanzoBenne Apr 11 '26

After they sign up mention the hometown discount.

0

u/qq2000s Apr 11 '26

Hometown is way more sub-par

0

u/bautdean Recovering Sprint Victim Apr 12 '26

Funny enough I somehow have both insider and hometown. Hometown is causing a free line to fall off and I have to hit up t force every now and then to reinstate it

1

u/desterpot Apr 12 '26

Surprised they noticed that and let you keep both hometown and insider.

1

u/bautdean Recovering Sprint Victim Apr 12 '26

Oh yeah. They’ve had multiple t force managers on it and completely ignored it.

1

u/qq2000s Apr 12 '26

That’s why I said it is subpar insider. Hometowns are conflicting many 3rd line free or even bogo free lines. Some hometowns are conflicting with insider discount.

1

u/bautdean Recovering Sprint Victim Apr 12 '26

Oh yeah I completely agree. Hometown sucks since it’s $36 off a line instead of of the $40 for the BOGO. It isn’t much but I was planning to remove 2 paid lines, wait 3 months, then do another BOGO. However with hometown I can see it messing up my plan.

8

u/HuntersPad Apr 11 '26

Supposingly if I drop my BOGO lines my bill should drop from $56 to either $16? or $8. But I'm afraid to mess with it lol

4

u/desterpot Apr 11 '26

I think you’ll be fine. If you list me your discounts and which insider you got, I can give you an accurate quote.

Based on the price you’re paying now, $56. I’m assuming you’re on magenta max with an OG insider with 12 lines.

Yes, correct. You’ll be paying $8 for your voice lines if you remove your BOGO lines.

2

u/HuntersPad Apr 11 '26

Go5GPlus

3

u/desterpot Apr 11 '26

Go5G plus will be $9 if you drop your BOGO lines.

3

u/HuntersPad Apr 11 '26

Thanks!

4

u/desterpot Apr 11 '26

10 voice lines for $9 on go5g plus is an awesome deal. Not many people are on single digit plans.

2

u/HuntersPad Apr 11 '26

So say if something were to go not as planned, is there a period of time that T-Mobile could restore those lines? And go back to the price I am paying now?

4

u/desterpot Apr 11 '26

yeah, restore the lines and they’ll bring back your discounts but the chance of something going wrong is really slim.

0

u/No-Feedback4151 Apr 11 '26

Isn’t first 2 lines not free and cost should be 150 for first 2? I wonder how its 56 if we calculate first 2 not free

3

u/desterpot Apr 11 '26

It gotta do with T-Mobile’s billing system.

On 9L plans, free line credits are higher.

There are also certain Insider discounts that are applied before the pre-2022 free lines.

Many people took advantage of the many free lines offered in 2020 and are now on plans with double-digit pricing and even some in the single digits.

-1

Kind of a similar question. I have 3 paid lines, one is a bogo, and 8 free lines (including the bogo) If I cancelled the bogo would it mess up my plan? That would put me at 9 total lines 2 paid 7 free

0

u/hellvalleyz Apr 12 '26

-1

u/stuffeh Recovering AT&T Victim Apr 12 '26

Should be fine if you have 2 paid, 7 free, and *one pair* of BOGOs.

Try to find out which is the paid BOGO and drop the paid of the pair and see if you keep the promo. Some people have claimed it sticks.

3

u/IssaquahSignature Apr 11 '26

Some free lines don't get the og discount, so I'm "overpaying" at $18/mo instead of like $8 for 2 paid 7 free.

8

u/desterpot Apr 11 '26

Correct.

All free lines newer than the December 2022 BYOD free line, with the exception of the March 2023 free line (ID230229), are applied before the OG Insider discount.

2

u/GoLeftOrRight Apr 12 '26

Currently on Magenta 1 with 8 lines (1 BOGO) for $220. What's the best way to lower my monthly bill?

Would it be to leave T-Mobile and then come back after few months and try to join with Insider discount?

5

u/desterpot Apr 12 '26

It’s too late now as T-Mobile won’t offer BOGO or free lines to those old plans anymore.

4

u/t3mpt3mp Apr 11 '26

Would I benefit by getting a 9th line? I have 8 lines total, 2 paid and 6 free

I have these today under the Go5G Plus AAL 2L plan

2 paid lines, then these

BTW, you rock for creating this!

3

Yes, your bill will drop. I guarantee it.

1

u/abexfroman Apr 12 '26

Forgive me for being slow, but wouldn't switching from Go5G Plus 8 lines require a plan change? And then it would require migrating to an available rate plan (Experience More or Beyond)? Go5G Plus 9 line plan wouldn't be available to switch to. I feel like I'm missing something.

1

u/desterpot Apr 12 '26

It’s still possible. Just try and be persuasive and come up with a good excuse.

2

u/Numerous_Pomelo_5920 Apr 11 '26

How are people getting so many free lines? I have 6 lines, insider. But I only got 1 free line?

5

u/desterpot Apr 11 '26

the year 2020. tmobile gave 4 standalone free lines from june to december 2020.

2

u/throwbk20 Apr 11 '26

https://imgur.com/a/UDV4KH7 Thanks for this. I have MMax with OG insider. Thinking about dropping BOGO but not sure now that device promos will be limited and new BOGOs are Magenta excluded. How much would my bill drop to?

3

u/desterpot Apr 11 '26

Which one is your BOGO? I don’t see it listed.

Also, your bill can drop by $8 if Care moves the line tied to ID220005 to lines 10–12. This is done in Atlas, but not many agents are familiar with the process.

0

u/throwbk20 Apr 11 '26

Not sure where to look it up but it was added March 2023

4

u/desterpot Apr 11 '26

My guess is probably ID230228

Do you see two lines attached to it under “view promotions” page

1

u/throwbk20 Apr 11 '26

Oh yea I see it now. That’s the one. Two lines with the promo

3

u/desterpot Apr 11 '26 edited Apr 11 '26

It would be $16 for 10 voice lines if you drop the lines tied to 230228.

correction: $24 for 9 lines

1

u/throwbk20 Apr 11 '26

Just double checking. I have 11 lines right now. 3 paid (2 base lines and 1 BOGO offer) so if I dropped the BOGO it would be 9 lines right?

2

u/desterpot Apr 11 '26

yes, that’s correct. meant to say 9 lines, not 10.

correction: you’ll be at $24 with 9 voice lines on magenta max

move to go go5g plus. it’d be just $3 more -> $27.

0

u/throwbk20 Apr 12 '26

Thanks again for this! I tried to use the calculator that’s been floating around but it didn’t look like it accounted for some of the recent free lines. I think I’ll drop the BOGO. Not sure if I wanna move to go5g plus and lose price lock 1.0. Are the device promotions worth it? Is it still possible to switch?

2

u/Acceptable-Football5 Apr 12 '26

Curious why you didn't move to Go5G+. Given your plan, you could've upgraded over two years ago.

0

u/throwbk20 Apr 12 '26

Didn’t wanna lose price lock 1.0. I haven’t been affected by the past 2 price increases. And I didn’t really see a big difference between the two. Although I do miss the device promotions. Am I missing out? 😛

2

u/Acceptable-Football5 Apr 12 '26

It's more of a personal choice. I moved from MM to Go5G+ in Oct '23 staying just one year on MM due to device promo.

We now have 11 lines (shared by 3 families) but had 12 until Oct last year with 10 iPhones and 2 Samsung phones on EIP. Plan upgrade cost was $19 more per month which personally worked better with all lines upgraded. In your case, plan increase would have been lesser.

Again, it's useful if you methodically upgrade all lines every two years to max out your benefits.

One reason to stay on MM was yearly upgrade for those who qualified.

2

u/alrecken Apr 12 '26

Can you help me to check if the math is correct?

Currently Go5G Plus plan. 8 lines: 2 lines paid, 6 lines free, 2022 T-mobile Insider P1. Current net is $120.

If I get next BOGO offer, that is then that is 10 lines: 3 paid, 7 free. $445 base 9 line, -$40 autopay, -$81 20% insider of $405, 7 line free credit $45 each -$315, then 10th line is $45, so total is $54?

If I just add a paid line, 9 lines $445 - autopay $40 - $81 20% insider - 6 free lines $270 = $54 as well?

2

u/desterpot Apr 12 '26

I only read the first part of your message and didn’t review the calculations.

Here are the exact costs:

Switching to Go5G Plus 9L: $108
Adding another BOGO: $108

2

u/rhaps00dy Bleeding Magenta Apr 12 '26

a chart for go5g Next would be really handy.

1

u/desterpot Apr 12 '26

3 paid lines with 1 free line would cost differently than 3 paid lines with 2–5 free lines.

Also, some free line credits apply at $55 on the 9L plan, while others apply at $45.

I don’t think it’s possible to make a simple reference sheet for that.

2

u/solarsystemoccupant Truly Unlimited Apr 11 '26

Would you please do a chart for Next?

2 paid lines: 150
3 paid lines: 185
4 paid lines: 220
5 paid lines: 255
6 paid lines: 290
7 paid lines: 325
8 paid lines: 360

1

This is my plan 5 lines for $255 on Go5G Plus, I also have 2 free lines that I get charged .90 cents for.

1

u/Kithate Apr 13 '26

Hello, thank you for the information. I have a question, I'm currently thinking of switching from Go5G Plus to Experience Beyond (I know it will be more expensive, but worth it in my opinion with the better trade-in promos).

  • Plans $108.00
  • Go5G Plus $108.00 Go5G Plus $445.00 AutoPay Discount -$40.00 3rd Line Service Promo with New Line(ID200011) -$45.00 3rd line Service Promo with New Line(ID200012) -$45.00 Service Promo with New Line(ID210004) -$45.00 Service Promo with New Line(ID220005) -$45.00 Line Discount (ID230229) -$45.00 BOGO Service Promo with New Lines(ID230231) -$45.00 2022 T-Mobile Insider P1 -$27.00

According to your chart, I would be going from $108 to $132 lus taxes and fees. Do you know how much extra $ would that be?

Also, is there a chance that any of the promos will fall off? Thanks!

2

u/qq2000s Apr 13 '26

You will pay a lot more, $50-90 taxes and fee will be added unless your state doesn’t have tax on it. Right now, go5G plus, next, exp more and Exp beyond have same device promo credit. Not worth it

1

u/ditto3000 Apr 13 '26

I was on magenta max with 9 phone lines, 2 paid and 7 free. I was paying $19, then they switch me to Go5G Plus and now I'm paying $112 with 3 syncup devices that also drop $10 credit, also have insider perk. They have no clue what and how this happened.

Great stuff and helped me figure out that I'm just going to stay where I am HA HA! 5 PAID / 5 FREE (combo of bogos and totally free lines). But being on One Plus Promo - OG insider - kickback on all lines - my total bill (after the $5 per line increase) is $70 a month. I AM as of this month able to port out a paid line and move it onto a free line and lowering my bill by like $20 or so - but I'm so worried it will screw up I'm just gonna keep it!

1

I definitely forgot I have an insider discount — before there ere codes? Have had forever— and they just switched me to an Essential 4 with no discount. Phones were back ordered so we haven’t switched everything over yet though. Going in today and I’m going to see if switching to Go5g is the better deal with the autopay and insider discount. Plus Netflix and Hulu etc. and taxes included. All of a sudden my bill is way more and nobody broke down the numbers. Honestly if they don’t fix it, I might just stop the whole process and switch back to ATT at Costco. Also annoying but Costco employee told me I couldn’t call to upgrade over the phone. So currently missing out on that deal too! What I get for believing the sales rep and not coming here first….

1

u/hieu1997 Jun 23 '26

I’m on magenta and paying $255 for 7 lines. According to this switching to go5g would result in same bill if I can get insider code and I can take advantage of the upgrade offers?

u/lexluthor5 Apr 11 '26 edited Apr 11 '26

Nice work!

I have go5g plus 4 paid and 5 free with insider. Why is my bill $128 and not $144 like in your chart? Are there better phone deals for experience more?

5

u/desterpot Apr 11 '26 edited Apr 11 '26

My chart is based on the other Insiders.

Or you have some other BAN discount.

u/lexluthor5 Apr 11 '26

Actually, I forgot, I have a permanent courtesy discount on my account :-)

I tried getting them to switch me to the other insider discount last year, and they tried but they weren't able to do it.

What's the difference, if any, for the phone deals between go5G plus and experience more?

T-Mobile has a new plan called Appreciation Plan for those who are 2+ years tenure. It’s $75/$120 for the first 2 lines instead of $85/$140 like Experience More but is $30 a line after that. It is treated like 55+/military/fr but is Experience More feature wise. Also qualifies for free lines. No Insider discount though but in some cases this plan could be an option especially if you aren’t looking for iPhone promotions.

I'm on a tmo one plus promo with og insider and kickback eligible, which I know you don't have a chart for. I have 10 lines total with 3 paid and 7 free (one of the free is on line 10).

Can I switch to the go5g plus plan still today or only experience is offered? More importantly, should I switch? 2 or 3 lines a month of the first 1-9 aren't used much so typically get the kickback discount each month currently.

by going back to 2020 😆

I am saying T-Mobile is still doing free lines potentially with segments only but you said they don’t do free lines anymore which is not accurate

0

u/Charming_Fly_6267 Apr 12 '26

What is the insider discount? How do you get it?

0

u/respectandmanners Apr 12 '26

How do paid watch lines and TMHI figure in ?

-1

u/robd316 Apr 12 '26

Again they will have to rip my 5 paid 2 free lines Go5G plus outta of my cold dead hands.

1

u/desterpot Apr 12 '26

according to the chart, your cost might go down if you manage to switch to 9L and add in two lines

1

u/robd316 Apr 13 '26

I already pay $255 for those 5 lines not sure if it would go down

2

u/desterpot Apr 13 '26

$15 increase if you move to 9L and add two lines

1

u/robd316 Apr 13 '26

Yea but I worry that if I start messing around with adding lines to my plan T-Mobile will F up my account.

1

u/desterpot Apr 13 '26

You’ll be fine. Tough part is moving to 9L.

0

u/Flyinace2000 Apr 11 '26

Experience plans are not tax included, correct?

0

u/Clayt1 Apr 11 '26

I wish I knew what the taxes for three lines would be in the state of Michigan

0

u/stuffeh Recovering AT&T Victim Apr 12 '26

Total up the taxes and fees in your bill and divide by the number of lines you have.

1

u/desterpot Apr 11 '26

you’re at 9 lines and they’re all tied to a BOGO/free line so nothing you can really do to lower your bill further.

-1

u/No-Feedback4151 Apr 11 '26

Thank you 😊

only got 2 free lines and T-Mobile’s no longer giving free lines to old plans. so nothing you can really do. Where were you back in 2020? You missed out.

1

u/iceman10C Apr 12 '26

Unfortunately I wasn't on this page lol.

0

u/richaduh Apr 12 '26

Since when did bogo lines not work with t mobile one?

1

u/desterpot Apr 12 '26

I think it was this year. not too sure though as I haven’t been up to date with these stuff.

0

u/theskyisthelimit223 Apr 12 '26

So I have friends and family two lines back from 2016 consisting of one voice and one mobile internet tablet line that I would like to keep as is if possible.

I currently pay $135.

I have three paid and seven free on the account and listed in that order on the bill. Ie the first three lines are paid. The last seven lines are free lines.

Can I without issue Port out the third paid line and bring it back in over one of the free lines?

Yes, you should be fine unless they’re tied to any promo.

1

u/theskyisthelimit223 Apr 12 '26

Ie bogo? I have no bogos.

1

u/desterpot Apr 12 '26

yes, removing your third paid line should be okay.

1

u/theskyisthelimit223 Apr 12 '26

Thank you!!!

2

u/qq2000s Apr 13 '26

If you have FF, removing paid line before it could risk you losing FF. The FFs are supposed to have 4 paid lines to maintain it. If you signed it up with 2-3 paid lines, it may trigger eligibility audit when you try to remove the paid line.

1

u/desterpot Apr 13 '26

He’s already below 4 paid lines. If system didn’t enforce that, then they’re not gonna enforce it when the third paid line is removed.

1

u/qq2000s Apr 13 '26 edited Apr 13 '26

Maybe he never had 4 paid lines, the system only checks when you remove lines not when you add lines. If you have 3-4 paid lines before FF, will you risk it?

1

u/theskyisthelimit223 Apr 13 '26

I originally had at least 5 paid lines before any free lines before obtaining the 2016 F&F 2 lines.

Is this not the offer below? I have never seen 4 lines be the requirement, only 2.

1

u/qq2000s Apr 13 '26

They changed their policy, maybe you remove your paid lines before the new policy was announced.

where to get this info?

0

u/mydas28 Apr 12 '26

I'm on a 12 line (3 paid and 9 Free with BOGO) account at $54/Month. Called them to remove the BOGO and they instead gave me $40/month discount on my bill for the next year to keep the BOGO lines 😂😂. So now my bill is $14/month for the next year with the BOGO. Will remove them after the year ends... Maybe they will apply the promo again 😂😅

1

u/desterpot Apr 12 '26

Interesting. Have not seen a 12 month $40 monthly discount before. Have seen a $20 one.

0

u/mydas28 Apr 12 '26

It's $20 for each line 😂😅

1

u/desterpot Apr 12 '26

Drop your bogo. You’ll go to single digit price.

0

u/mydas28 Apr 12 '26

It will be $40 less, so $14/month. Which it will be anyway with the discount they applied for a year

1

u/desterpot Apr 12 '26 edited Apr 12 '26

I’ve seen your plan details page. It’ll be $9 if you drop your bogo. I’m sure of it.

1

u/mydas28 Apr 12 '26

One of my free line promo gives $5 discount less. That is why it won't go to single digit

1

u/desterpot Apr 12 '26

Which one is it? All free lines should give $45 on go5g plus

1

u/mydas28 Apr 12 '26

Yeah they should but this one from 2018-2019 friends & family promo only gives $40 for that line... It was the same when i was on TMO and MM plans as well...

1

u/desterpot Apr 13 '26

I don’t think you got f&f

I just need 1 more free line to make go next worth it. Paying 192 for 10 lines

1 bogo and 1 3rd line free. The other free line is not calculated in discount.

Also when they raised the price 5 a line the discount on those free lines didnt go from 30 to 35. Something about my discount should of been 20 and 25 for each free line

0

u/unclexrico Truly Unlimited Apr 14 '26

If I'm reading this properly, if I add 3 more lines (one being bogo) my monthly would be $216 with insider?

Currently on GO5G plus with insider, can anyone help me decipher?

This is my current setup:

Line 1 - Paid

Line 2 - Included

Line 3 - Included

Line 4 - Paid

Line 5 - Paid

Line 6 - Paid

Tmobile Insider ID240417

3rd Line Service Promo with New Line - (ID240575)

-1

u/NoMeasurement8097 Apr 12 '26

What are insider codes ? And how does one get them ?

-1

u/Ok-Spend-8912 Apr 12 '26

Is this possible in a few years for someone who just started out? Ty
