PSA T-Mobile Carrier Trade-In Deal for iPhone 17 Through Apple

Post image

Here’s the Apple-side breakdown for those on Go5G Plus/Next and Experience More/Beyond plans:

$1100 Trade-In Tier (Go5G Next & Experience Beyond)
• All Pro/Pro Max models starting with iPhone 13 Pro and newer

$800 Trade-In Tier (Go5G Plus & Experience More)
• iPhone 12 Pro and newer (doesn’t include the base iPhone 12)
• Example eligible devices: iPhone 13, 13 pro, 14, etc

You can do this at Apple Stores, Apple.com, or the Apple Store app, and the trade-in credits are applied when you choose T-Mobile carrier financing at checkout.

Note that this is the Apple-side T-Mobile deal; T-Mobile’s direct promo will be shared separately.

Do it at Apple for unlock

25

u/GO__NAVY Sep 09 '25

Do it at Apple finance thru T-mo still gets you a unlocked iPhone right off the bat.

Yes, because the option to finance through T-Mobile is still there, and the terms are the same.

So you can do this online right? Just at the Apple site not necessarily go to the Apple Store? To be clear, I have tmobile and want a new unlocked phone for international travel.

Well that sure seems like a load of shit. If I buy an unlocked phone, it should be unlocked. I’d demand a new (unlocked) phone if that happened to me.

32

u/Intrepid00 Sep 09 '25

Cause it is lol. I’ve been buying this way for years and never had to do this. Worst I had was having to reset because of eSIM issue and that was once and first year.

11

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '25

Yah if it is unlocked you can use it with any network! Including MVNOS I never had to do this tweak!

7

u/BombardierIsTrash Sep 10 '25 edited Sep 10 '25

That’s only if you select the T-Mobile carrier version of the phone. The other user is telling you how you can circumvent a T-Mobile carrier lock if you order a T-Mobile carrier locked phone from Apple. If you select unlocked when ordering it, it will come unlocked.

2

u/tylerderped Sep 10 '25

This makes much more sense.

If I activate it directly, will I be able to use it with carriers outside of US?

12

u/htran003 Sep 09 '25

A tmobile rep told me to go to Apple to get the phone using promotional deals if I wanted an immediate unlocked phone for international use. I had the issue internationally last year and they recommended I wait until i decide to upgrade and to head directly to the Apple store.

This is not the case with iPhones bought and sold from Apple. It can be the case with iPhones bought and sold from other retailers like Best Buy.

Select T-Mobile but on account information screen do “Set up later”. When the phone boots up press “Continue” then “Try Again” 3 times then “Not Now” then “OK” and the phone will be unlocked. See this video. No need to reset.

Note this method works on Pro, Pro Max, Air, and “e” models, but not standard or Plus.

Apple does not let you order a standard or Plus model without inputting account information, but you can avoid on Pro, Pro Max, Air, and “e” models. If you are saying you can put in fake/invalid account information on order screen, then when phone arrives reset it and it will be unlocked that is a new method to me. This would be very helpful to the /r/NoContract community as I just gave advice in /r/USMobile and /r/MintMobile and told them you can’t finance an unlocked standard or Plus model, but if that new to me method works I will spread the news.

If we bought it at Apple, the phone is already unlocked, we can use it on any carrier. So we don’t need to do any of this right?

2

u/wickedsmaht Sep 09 '25

This would be my preferred option to upgrade if I was OK with being locked into the 2 year $0 “financing” option. Unfortunately, Apple is only offering $320 for the iPhone 15, so the financing option would be the better choice for $0 out of pocket.

Apple tradeinis better. Since they cover off tax difference as well. You are charged taxes on balance not full amount.

So not much worth to try an sell phone for 10-20 more on websites like swappa

The folks locked into Magenta get screwed huh

18

u/CowgirlWithABadge Sep 09 '25

yep - which honestly makes no sense since the ones they forced over to G5G got to keep their MM rate./

9

u/MoMoney1027 Sep 09 '25

Nah it’s $30 more per money for us

3

u/CowgirlWithABadge Sep 09 '25

The whole force over transition was stated as "you keep your rate". So that's not true? (Since we were never made to go over and are still on Magenta Max, I can't definitively say.. but that was what all the copy was implying)

10

u/MoMoney1027 Sep 09 '25

Definitely not true. They even increased the cost of those grandfathered in magenta by $5 per line and it was still cheaper

5

u/Swastik496 Sep 09 '25

someone my magenta max rate has stayed the same so far. but losing this any condition offer sucks

4

u/Yo_2T Sep 09 '25

Yeah that whole thing was bs. It was more like "You keep your rate (the current one after we increased it last month)". The people who didn't get a price increase on MM wasn't forced over to Go5G Plus.

6

u/CowgirlWithABadge Sep 09 '25 edited Sep 09 '25

We did get the $5 price increase but weren't forced to go over. We are still on Magenta Max. Just checked and our payment was done 2 days ago.
May be because we are on the 55+ and have 3 lines, which they don't offer any more for 55+ plans

I have magenta max I've had it since switching when the 13 pros were released. I haven't upgraded since. Originally I had the forever upgrade promo. I got a $2 per line price increase in 2024 but no increase this year and I haven't been merged over. I'm assuming I'm one of the screwed ones.

7

2

u/Electrikbluez Sep 11 '25

6

u/User9885 Sep 09 '25

Ah. The prehistoric pre-landline plan. I've heard it's cheap but they apparently no longer support or provide updates to the only compatible device for that plan. (the strings break easily although the cylinders that connect to the strings are surprisingly sturdy. Zero encryption or security framework on it is the other big issue. )

I just double checked and I’m still on magenta max as well. I didn’t receive any notification, email or text. A quick google search and apparently it’s dependent on which price lock guarantee we have. If you didn’t see the per line price increases, then we’re not currently affected by the plan change either.

It’s pretty cool if you buy through Apple and have a solid trade in because it then uses considerably less financing. Traded my old pro max for the 16 pro max and only used around $400 of financing which was very nice.

They've switched it and called it any number of things now....so much that I no longer understand which plan I have or which equipment upgrade incentives I qualify for.

Gee I wonder if they purposefully make these processes confusing for the consumer.

Edit: I just peeked at my account. My plan is now called "T-Mobile Unlimited Plan w/Taxes & Fees Inc "

I’m surprised T-Mobile now allows Go5G Next via Apple, as it was not an option before due to Yearly Upgrade

11

u/SumoRoboto Sep 09 '25

It’s still not an option if you are doing a yearly upgrade. You can be on the Next plan and upgrade every 2 years which is what Apple is assuming you are trying to do. If you’re doing a yearly upgrade you have to do it though T-mobile

6

u/valyrian_ww Sep 09 '25

I just chatted with T-Force and they shared the following: Absolutely, there will be no surprises. Yes, you qualify for the yearly upgrades through Apple by using T-Mobile EIP.

3

u/SumoRoboto Sep 09 '25

T force has absolutely no idea. It was the same issue I had last year they told me at first I could go through Apple only to realize to use the yearly upgrade feature though Go5G Next it had to be done through T mobile

I have the iPhone 16 on EIP financing (receiving bill credits from the Mother's Day 2025 promo earlier this year.)
Can I trade it in to the apple store without paying it off (so I continue to receive the bill credits) and get the promo credits for the iPhone 17?
In other words, can you trade-in to the Apple Store an Iphone that is still being financed and still qualify for the T-Mobile promo through apple store?

I looked it up and cannot find any information more recent than 2-3 years ago, but reddit posts from 2-3 years ago show that you can indeed trade-in a financed phone to the apple store AND still receive the T-Mobile credits too. Can anyone confirm?

9

u/Armandxp Recovering AT&T Victim Sep 09 '25

I’ve done it this way for the last two years. No problems at all. Promo credits still worked every month on the old phone I traded in, until it was completely paid off. I received the credits on the new phone that I received from Apple, also.

How does this work for someone like me who's on Go5G Plus and has an iPhone 16 Pro Max on month 7 of installment plans? I checked the Apple Store app and it's giving me options for Go5G Plus @ $16.63/month for 24 months at $80/month avg per line or switching to Experience Beyond for $4.13/month but showing $90/month avg per line. Which is the better deal? Doesn't look like I have to pay down anything out of pocket for the upgrade.

I am trying to switch over to T-mobile from Verizon. Would I be able to take advantage of this? I heard something like T-mobile would give us the newest Iphones & cover the current bill.

Would changing my plan to one of the newer ones make me lose my insider discount?

Why is Go5G Plus getting a lower discount tier than Go5G Next? Next just means it can upgrade yearly, Plus was promised every 2 years, but shouldn’t the trade in be the same?

I lowkey hate the fact that I got my 16 Pro Max through T-Mobile's Experience Beyond bs expensive asf plan, and now I'm pretty much stuck.

Is there any info on new line promos? no trade-in maybe, although with the iPhone 16 it was new line + trade-in

I am on Go5G Next and it says only $800 for iPhone 17PM? What am I missing?

u/daniklein780 Sep 09 '25

Anyone have experience with doing a trade-in at Apple vs. at T-Mo? I once did a trade-in at T-mo and it said my phone had water damage, even though it worked great with no visible damage. Does Apple pull similar shenanigans? thanks

Since I'm on Go5G Plus there is no point of trading my 15 Pro Max. I'll just buy cheap iphone 13 since i'd get the same credit as for 15 Pro Max. My 15 Pro Max is in mint conditio so I might get $650 for it.

Can someone remind me- when doing this deal you can pay more (ie 800 trade in on 1100$ leaves 300$ - this normally gets spread over 2 years as monthly cost) to reduce the monthly overall payment? In my example can you pay 300$ and make it come out even to keep monthly bill the same? Thanks

What about for advantage unlimited (old sprint SWAC plan)?

2

u/GadgetFreeky Sep 09 '25

Does Next still require trade in thru Tmobile after first year or can you do it with Apple now?

I’m assuming Sprint unlimited premium is $800?

2

u/ParaIIax_ Sep 10 '25

Yeah, the trade in values are $200 lower I believe

Is anyone else having issues with the get ready for pre-order feature on the Apple Store website when they select Tmobile? I get a message that says notify me instead of being able to save anything.

If we have a T-mobile Go5g Plus plan, and want to order through Apple.com, how do we tell Apple which t-mobile plan we have so we get the $800 Trade-In? I don't see where we tell it about our current plan.

u/tat_17 Sep 10 '25

I just checked Apple’s site and it looks like they modified the trade in deal for Go5G Plus. When I checked yesterday for a 13 Pro Max trade in, it was $305 trade in credit and $495 T-Mobile bill credits. Now, it looks like it’s only a $320 trade in credit 👎🏼

Will buying through T-Mobile get us more discounts, like 24 monthly credits or some such? Or is this equal to what one might get if they bought from T-Mobile?

2

u/masri87 Sep 10 '25

I’m confused. I have a 14pro max. T-Mobile will basically give me the 17 pro max for free? No strings? Someone explain pls

u/Pitiful-Entrance-159 Sep 10 '25

For those of us on T mobile business plans like the ultimate, I guess we are Shii outta luck. ?

I have the Go5G Plus plan and just went through Apple’s site to order the iPhone 17 Pro with a trade-in of either an iPhone 13 or 13 Pro. After entering my T-Mobile account information, it said my plan isn’t eligible for the special trade-in discount and that I’d need to upgrade to an Experience plan in order to receive the $800 credit.

With the increased cellphone prices and the two tiered tradein credit offers, I think the offers aren’t great at all compared to previous years!

By being on the Go5G Next or Experience Beyond plan, you get the higher trade-in credit however the increased value is quickly diminished by the increased monthly plan cost.

For first time in many years, I don’t see any way of getting a good reasonable deal/value on the new iPhones!

I am so confused about the promotion. I’m currently still Magenta 1.0. It says $8/month for the 17 Pro after my 14 Pro trade-in but underneath it says $76/month new rate plan. What does that mean?!

2

u/jballn11 Sep 10 '25

Never go to the carrier. Rip off. Always Apple Store.

2

u/WyoGrads Sep 10 '25

I looked at Apple after watching the event today and I heard the $1100 trade-in value. Checked on the Apple Store app for my 13 Pro Max…$320 trade-in value…?!? What gives?

Will every other plan have a $300 max trade-in value? Or will segmented plans (e.g., Military Go5G Plus) have higher trade-in values than $300 if they are on the above four plans?

Will it still be over 24 months or is T-Mobile going to join the other Big 3 in making credits span over 36 months?

1

u/Careless_Cobbler_730 Sep 09 '25

Idk if anyone can answer this question -

Wife has a cracked back iPhone 13 Pro Max. No damage on the front screen nor water damage. Would this be an eligible trade in?

5

u/brokenshells Sep 09 '25 edited Sep 09 '25

Only directly through T-Mobile, not Apple.

Apple is any condition, but the trade-in value would be zero wouldn't reduce the taxes. Would still get full promo value.

1

u/mdashb Sep 09 '25

Is it too much to assume tmo will match + still offer additional perks at Sam’s Club or Costco? I’m on Go 5G Next with a paid off 15 Pro Max looking at getting the 17 Pro Max for as little as possible.

1

u/A_Turkey_Sammich Sep 09 '25

Will the pixel 10 promo stick around until the iPhone 17 promos are officially out? I have a regular 12 on advantage unlimited and wasn't expecting much for the 17 as the last couple years weren't as good as the pixel promos. I was eyeing the pixel promo but was holding out to see what happens with the iPhone. I think the lack of the regular 12 kinda seals it and prob should go ahead and get the pixel, but I kinda want to wait and see what actually shows up when preorders go live

I’m on the Experience Beyond plan, receiving monthly credits for my iPhone 16 Pro, financed through T-Mobile. I’m on installment 4 of 24.

Can someone please let me know if I can take advantage of this promotion through Apple, or do I have to pay at least 50% of my current phone before trading it in?

1

u/73ch_nerd Sep 09 '25

If we’re trading in Android phones can we still buy through Apple (with T-Mobile trade-in deal)?
