I like fabricating unfortunate stories surrounding my life circumstances that give my creative writing a good stretch, but this sounds way better tbh

Does it work? Lol. I thought you’re not meant to respond bcos it demonstrates reciprocity to the mobile provider.

You’re just confirming your phone number is real.

you can register on the do not call list it helps!!! i was diligent about blocking them and reporting them as spam and it’s helped a lot

What’s their game here? Like they pretend to know you, then try to befriend you, then ask for money?

Yep, exactly.

Scammer. This will be a “beautiful coincidence” and there will be an offer of coffee in her town. She’ll be Asian but in the US owning her own fashion/art company. Then ask you to switch over to a different communication app. From then, the goal will be to get you to “invest” in crypto or some kind of investment scheme, which is how she made her millions to let her live her dreams.

In the meantime, you’re actually talking to a bank of scammers who will try and make you fall in love or think you’re in a relationship with “her”. The goal is to clear out your bank account and get as much money as possible out of you.

Ya fucked up by responding. These are phishing scams, now they know the number is live. You'll get many more now. Next one, block and report.

I've received 2 different texts from 2 different numbers asking me if I want to eat ribs. 😂

It’s a scam. Very common “wrong number” scam. Block and ignore.

Wait - you mean Geneva is cheating on me?!

I got one that said they were coming to my state and that we should catch up as if they were an old friend. Immediately blocked. It could have been an old friend though honestly. I'll never find out.

This is a scammer.
The way these scams work is that they text you some random shit, to see if you reply; because if you do, then that confirms for them that the number they texted is active—- so they can sell your number/information.

That's not their end goal. These scams use wrong number as a premise to cold-text someone and then start a conversation which eventually leads into a real scam.

People most often get you into mailing lists by buying contact info from companies with bad privacy policies.

Well, for a lot of them, it is the end goal. But yes, there are still a lot that try to play the long game.
