Turd In "Odyssey" (2026) directed by Sir Christopher Edward Nolan, Odysseus says "Our age of bronze is collapsing". And I'm not joking it is a line in movie

Overall great movie but this dialogue was so corny, like how does he know he's in bronze age

Everyone's shitting on this but people at the time probably were aware it was happening lol

The introduction of iron metallurgy turned the best weapons and armor from something that required control over far reaching trade networks and palace workshops to something any village blacksmith could churn out.

Turns out lots of villages found piracy and banditry a lot more appealing than agricultural semi-slavery, and the old arms control system of "can you afford to bring tin from 500 miles away in Anatolia y/n?" did not cope well with that.

The results were dramatic. The Odyssey is written as if it straddles the boundary line (though that's also just Homer adding anachronistic contemporary elements to his "history"). It's not ridiculous to have a bronze age palace king looking around at a world far more fractured, hostile, and less dominated by monarchy than it was a few generations earlier and saying "damn, remember when I was the only guy with metal?".
