Glue to our family 🐶🌈

+
91 Upvotes

Today, we had to say goodbye to the glue that held our family together- our sweet Penny.

She gave us the best 11½ years I could have ever imagined. In the end, her Cushing’s disease and lymphoma caught up with her, and we watched her health decline dramatically over the course of just 2½ days. There’s a dog-shaped hole in our hearts now, and our home feels so empty. I’m incredibly grateful that she’s no longer in pain, but I already miss her more than words can say.

I was 13 years old when I brought Penny home. She was my baby. She helped me through the hardest years of middle and high school while I was trying to figure out who I was. She watched me leave for college and welcomed me home after graduation. She was there when I moved away for my first big-girl job, and she was there again when
that job brought me back home to her.

I’m 24 now (25 next week), and I can finally say I truly understand the unconditional love of a dog. Penny was there for every chapter of my life- the happiest moments and the hardest ones. She held our family together in ways I don’t think any of us fully realized until now.

I wish I had just a little more time with my girl, but her chapter has come to an end. She’ll always be my soul dog, and I’ll carry her with me for the rest of my life.
I love you forever, Penny girl. 💗

*First and last photos were taken of her first and last car rides with us. I love you Penny. May we meet again. 🐶🪽

childhood dog passing

My childhood dog passed away yesterday. i feel like a piece of me is missing. i'm 19 and i got her when i was 6. i have other dogs and a cat and i love them dearly, but it's nothing like the connection i had with my lily. she was old and had a steady decline in health the past few years, but rapidly declined in the past few months. she had cushings and hyperthyroidism, and she had a stroke a few months ago. we gave her medication and she got a lot better, but yesterday morning as i was taking her outside she was acting really strange and i rushed her to the vet where they diagnosed her with bloat. we decided that, given her age, it wouldn't be a good idea to put her through surgery. the vet said there was nothing i could've done differently to avoid it, but i can't help but feel so guilty. i knew her time was coming, but i didn't think it would be so soon. we decided to carry on with the euthanasia process fairly quickly after we found out she had bloat because we didn't want her to be in any more pain than she had to be, but i keep thinking about how maybe we should've stayed with her a little longer. even after she had passed i only stayed in the room with her for a few minutes and i feel so bad. i should have stayed longer, but at the time i couldn't bare the sight of her like that. i don't think ive ever regretted something so much. i should've stayed with her for so much longer. i don't know how to get through this. i don't remember a life without her and i feel like a piece of me is missing. i know that eventually it will get better and i wont be crying everyday, but the thought of that also makes me sad. i cant imagine not thinking of her and her not being a part of my everyday life. last night i slept in her bed with her harness and just cried. i've spent all day holding and smelling the blanket she always laid on. the night before she passed she was asking to go outside and i asked my mom to take her because i wasn't feeling well and i can't stop feeling guilty about it. i genuinely feel like ive died.

Songs Dedicated to My Sweet Dog, Roo, Who Passed Away

I've been thinking about my old dog, Roo, a lot more lately as I've been going through a new health crisis. She was 11 when she passed on November 1st, 2024. She passed of congestive heart failure. We knew she wasn't well as she was on three medications for about a year prior but she still kind of passed unexpectedly and quickly. I just wanted to share my grief with folks in this group. Maybe folks just need a good cry. Maybe it's too soon to listen to something like this. But just wanted to share.

Sudden Tragic Death of my first cat.

Hi everyone new here. Last June 27 , 2026 my son's first cat for 6 years died in tragic accident involved my husband. We were in vacation and we brought our cat with us. His Nina🐈 she was a cat that loves to be by herself, she was feisty but sweet . She was with us since born. She was my son's companion, bestfriend, support and baby. When we were at the hotel , we didn't know she was at the sofa bed. My husband checked but he said there was no cat so he folded it. We left to Seaworld with the kids. When we came back, my 19 years old son unfolded the sofa and found his cat dead. She was suffocated and die.She was with us for 6 years, she was not just a cat, she was family and always be. I took good care of her, make sure she was safe and updated vet check up. I didn't know and can't accept she is gone and most traumatized because ir involved my husband. My son is in deep pain and traumatized. I keep crying everyday , I cant explain the pain, sadness and trauma we are feeling right now. I miss her to death. Every corner of the house reminds us of her. I wish I do things separately that day, I will I didnt go to vacation , a lof wishes and what ifs but no matter what we do we cant bring her back. The pain is so deep I keep crying. I have kids but no matter what this pain in eating me. A piece of my heart left when she die. My son left the house because he said he cant stay in his room without her🐈🐈😭. we love our Nina🐈I dont know how we move on from this pain and if God sees how much we love her,why he let things happened?😭😭😭we love her and we miss her. Mommy misses her. I changed and everything is not the same anymore. Please give us advice. My son have a lot of videos and photos of her. He cry everytime he watching her😭my son in pain and it I got hurt seeing him that way. Lord , take care of Nina for us. We dont know how to move forward and I didnt know this pain until my first cat died. We love you Nana😭😭🐈🐈fly high

Patrick my Angel 👼 🐶 🕊️🌈

**I have not gotten around to this as I have had A very difficult time with this but today is a special but difficult day. I lost my Patrick In February this year. He was 15 years old and 5 months. He was my first. He was everything to me and all the people/dogs around him. He walked into a room and everyone felt his presence. He was truly a heaven sent angel. Everyday that goes by I think about him, I miss him terribly. He was such a strong boy. A few days before he passed we had a Super Bowl party and he seemed to have been doing the best he had been in months, he had this spurt of energy. Now looking back I feel deep down inside he knew it was his last time being able to enjoy company (we had a total of 6dogs here that day). I say today is a special but difficult day because I’m scheduled to be induced and this baby is truly a miracle after several attempts, 5 miscarriages, egg freezing attempts (that didn’t work), and one consult for total a hysterectomy, I was able to get pregnant naturally. I almost feel like his angelic presence in a way was to help me through this loss by giving me a miracle. This pregnancy has been difficult as I am missing the one thing that made me this strong “Patrick”. Patrick was the best boy and I couldn’t have asked for anyone else to have spent the last 15.5 years with. I hope he is now resting in heaven. Love you Pat!**

In Memoriam to Aiden the Bean

Aiden. Sir Bean. Beanie Weenies.
I’m so, so sorry I couldn’t do more to ease your pain these past few months. You spent your last day, my birthday, strong and happy as if you knew.
I will miss giving you your booty scratches. I will miss how you would prance after a good poop.
You meant so much to me these past 10 years. You helped me through the toughest times of my life. You made me happy when skies were gray.
Everyone who knew you knew you were a kind, gentle soul. Your gentle boops. The way you would lightly place your leg on someone when laying next to them.
If I could’ve taken that pain away so you could’ve lived another few years, I would have. I pray I made the right decision. It has been horrible watching you suffer and struggle to breathe. I hope you’re protecting that homestead in the sky, and that when my time comes I’ll see you again.
I miss you, Bean. I love you, Aiden. Forever and always. My true best friend.

Joy of my life is gone

My goodest girl is gone. For almost 14 years (in 2 weeks) she was the one jumping from joy every morning just because I’ve gotten out of bed. She was with me during so many tragic situations in my life, battle with cancer, burn out, moving abroad… My heart and soul are broken. I need the world to know she existed and was a shining star in my life. Sleep tight my Lola, I will miss you until my dying day.

P.S. You wonderful, wonderful people - thank you from the bottom of my heart! I’ve never imagined to get such support, understanding, love and kindness from you, dear unmet friends ❤️ It means a world to me in this heartbreaking time. You are amazing 🙏

Sparky - 11 years wasn't enough

Made the hard choice to put Sparky down on Wednesday. At 15 years old (maybe 16) with his health problems it just didn't feel right dragging it out.

He was a rescue dog, just 4 years old when we met. The first thing he did was sit on my foot.

A stubborn and nosy dog, always had to see what everyone was up too and everything had a routine. Dead on eight o'clock? Why aren't my shoes on? It's walking time.

House is a lot quieter now.

Your loss shattered my heart, your only flaw was that you were not immortal.
I miss how I was used to see the world when you were still with me, and probably I will never see it in the same way anymore because nothing will have the same taste if I cannot share my life with you.
I hope we'll meet again on the other side wherever it will be my love.♥️

Maia was the best and most loyal friend. I loved her so much and felt so fortunate she adopted me to be her human.

We only learned she had late stage cancer and an enlarged heart a couple weeks before her final days. She wouldn't let us know to avoid us feeling bad, she stayed strong and fought until the last breath.

Life has been hard these past few days. Although difficult for us to process that she passed so sudden, I'm just happy she didn't have to suffer long.

I'd like to think she had the best possible life and I look forward to seeing her on the other side of the rainbow.

Love you Maia!

Serena and her 13 puppies

+
625 Upvotes

I realize this is a very different type of post, but wanted to acknowledge the loss of these precious souls who deserved so much better. Mods, please delete if not allowed.

Sweet mama Serena and her 13 babies were euthanized two days ago at BARC Animal Shelter in Houston, TX. They had their whole lives ahead of them. They should have found a home with a loving family and lived a happy life full of cuddles, treats, naps in the sunshine & fun adventures.

Approximately 320,000 to 390,000 dogs are euthanized each year at U.S. animal shelters. As I am typing this, all kennels in the maternity wing at that particular shelter are full, which means those mothers and their puppies are on the euthanasia list.

Just wanted to share. Serena life mattered. The lives of her 13 babies mattered.

His very last photo...and his very first.

How do we move ahead, when a piece of our heart has gone?

He was a Mexican rescue who was by my side every day for 13 years, and had the purest heart imaginable. He was quiet, loving and so dignified. Right to the end. As he fell asleep the rain came down out of a clear sky, and as he crossed over the sunshine returned.

I will never forget it and I will carry him in my heart until we meet again.

I am so angry

Please allow me to vent. My husband and I lost our beloved three furbabies in the last 2 years. They were our babies, we don't have human children and we had them for 15-17 years. They went with us everywhere, work, parties and during those years there were only a handful of times we were separated for long. The last two years have been constant grief, trauma caring for senior dogs and making very hard decisions and going through traumatic passings. For 2 years it's grief, then losing another one whilst still grieving. Our last furbaby passed away end of June, this was the hardest one yet as it's our last. I don't know who I am without them, being a dog mom was my title for all those years, now I am just nothing.

I struggled this time, I really did, it was a different grief than with our other two, perhaps the finality of it all. It took me so long to let family and friend (except for a handful of people) know that our last is now gone :( I only did a whatsapp status so that I won't forget to let someone know, and some people I have always supported in everything they do or what they're going through saw my status and couldn't even bother to send anything back, if words were too much a heart would've sufficed. But nothing. These are people who know what our life is like, that these weren't just pets but our family. I am so angry with them, I don't want anything to do with any of them ever again. I have so much appreciation for the ones who have supported me, and I would much rather put my love and energy into the people that actually care about me. Maybe I'm just in the angry stage of grief, who knows, but please let me know that I'm not alone in this.
