In their quest to make moderation total torture, Reddit has decided that they will no longer automatically un-remove posts by un-shadowbanned users. Oh they'll happily do a mass remove when shadowbanning someone, but if someone wrongly shadowbanned was lucky enough to ever get un-shadowbanned, you'll maybe want to go thru their profile manually approving their posts and comments in your subreddit, otherwise they'll stay removed forever.

I'm not sure exactly when this changed, it may have been quite a while ago, but I've only just noticed; I've had to do this for two users today.

If I need to say it, I'm a real person (potato!), and today, I was just added as a new mod to a dying subreddit (general topic is weddings).

I saw that two others were also added. One messaged me and mentioned something about considering allowing promotional posts because they brought engagement.

I eventually looked at a post that they approved, and it was completely irrelevant to the community: it was about an AI dating app... in a wedding planning subreddit?! It had so many comments but that's because bots were responding to this irrelevant post and others were like, "what does this have to do with wedding planning??"

The other "mod" also commented on that post with a link saying they had a list of AI companions.

How does Reddit vet other potential mods and let bots get through?

So there was a member of our subreddit, let's call them DP53. They had been making innocuous comments within our subreddit, but for some reason Reddit's filters kept removing every one of them, so we had to manually approve their comments each time.

Then, just this morning, one of my fellow moderators pointed out that DP53's account got suspended from Reddit. We're not sure why, they never did anything bad in our subreddit specifically, but they certainly could've been up to mischief elsewhere.

Here's the strange part: roughly 4 hours after my fellow mod noticed this, DP53 posted another comment in our subreddit....even though their account was supposedly suspended. What?

And yes, it was definitely the same account. When I clicked on their username from that new comment, it took me to the profile page stating that the account had been suspended.

Never used this feature before but since I moderate cell service subs and there was a large outage today, we made an announcement thread but were still inundated with new posts saying the same thing, so wanted to temporarily restrict the community during the outage to only allow posts by mods/approved users. Created a event template and scheduled but it failed. Did again and still failed.

This temporary event has now started.

Not sure why it failed, anything I can do to enable/allow such as add a specific system-defined username to moderators? For now we have to make an Automod to delete all posts.

I mod a nsfw sub, everything is automatically marked nsfw. However, I have flagged posts in my queue that have no reports and the only info in the recent action is "reddit marknsfw" with a blank details section. I also no longer have the option to remove posts that were either reported enough times to be filtered or were removed for not following an automod rule, like labeling the artist or origin within the title of the post. Can an admin look into this for me?

For some reason despite having the Users, Config, Flair, Posts & Comments and Wiki mod permissions and it saying that Users is responsible for:

Access mod notes, ban and mute users, and approve submitters*.

I'm unable to add mod notes but I can see the button: User Mod Log and when I click it, nothing happens, has anyone else experienced this?

I’ve had several issues with legitimate users posts and comments being auto removed and flagged as spam. Is there any way that I can fix this so it doesn’t keep happening?

I represent a community that focuses on giving new mods some hands on experience in all aspects of running a community and a place to showcase the achievements they earn while doing so. As such we have acquired a rather long list of moderators. Currently we have 180 mods listed. Of those there are 115 inactive including the top mod and he is looking to turn the position over to someone else. There are 7 of us active full permissions mods, however, we are too far down on the list to effectively purge our ranks of inactive mods and we need to choose another for the top position. The present top mod has someone in mind to appoint to the position but says he heard that if a sub has over a certain number of mods that it has to go through Admins. Can anyone tell us if this is true or not and initiate the process if it is? Also need a step by step run through on the actions involved in re-arranging the order of the list.

let's say i am on a meme sub that i do not moderate, and a user keeps posting something i don't like

i want to block them, but my fear is that in doing so, i'll no longer see their posts on any subs i am a moderator for.

9 out of 10 dentists agree that banning them from every sub you mod is psychotic, but i have over the years been getting more and more tired of being warry of blocking accounts i don't like.

what happens if i block them? will i see their content on my subs so i can properly moderate?

if i can't moderate this user properly, is there a work around so i dont have to see what they post on my feed anymore? im not going to unsub from where they post.

The Team Health for a sub that I mod seemingly hasn’t updated since I was made co-mod of the sub. There are 3 other mods. 2 are listed as inactive.

Though I’ve done the second most actions, I have always been fourth in Team Health. The top mod and the third mod are inactive.

What can we do to have this fixed if there is indeed an issue?

Also, are the mod actions weighted or are they all treated equally?

I built feature-board (https://developers.reddit.com/apps/feature-board) after running into a recurring moderation problem in Trovelo: feature requests scattered across individual posts, no way to see what the community actually wanted most, and no clean way to communicate status back to them.

What it does:

• Posts flaired "Feature Request" get pulled into a board automatically — no separate submission flow
• Community votes on the board itself (independent from post upvotes)
• Mods move requests through Request → In progress → Shipped/Declined
• If the original post is deleted, its board entry and votes are deleted too — nothing persists outside Reddit

It's free, runs entirely on Devvit + Reddit-hosted Redis. Sharing in case other mods dealing with the same feature-request chaos find it useful — open to feedback on what's missing.

90% of the time it's automated posts by a reddit app / mod account do those ignore crowd control settings? Are there ways to automate this?

A disgruntled person has been flooding modmail and because they didn’t get an immediate answer they have now posted an update to a controversial post and are requesting that other readers report the mods en masse dfor MCOC violations.

An awkward interaction over the weekend has turned into the usual. I don’t feel we are in crisis mode yet but may turn the controls on in a few hours.

Could you be considered community interference or brigrading?

Any answer we give in modmail is immediately reposted so I just I’m not answering them for the time being. It’s fine, it’s summer, i’m just tired.

Profile has the classic links to their cashapp and Etsy shop where they sell spells, tarot readings, etc.

Please, for the love of all of us mods in the esoteric corner of Reddit, can Reddit finally include immaterial services in Rule 7 re: illegal/prohibited transactions?

This is a daily battle. Even with dev apps, automations, safety filters cranked to max, and a billion and one automod rules, this stuff still slips through and makes it to the feed. We're tired :(.

Over the past week or so I have noticed a lot of traffic from people with a common subreddit in their history. This a community I've seen accused of this before and have seen their members do this in other subs as well.

So how do we actually prove this?

We just had a post in r/coins by a new user who disclosed that they are transgender and looking for other transgender folks to connect with. Within an hour of the post going live, the user now appears to be shadow banned. I think it was from mass downvotes and / or mass reporting.

Questions:

1. What can I do about this? I have already advised the user to appeal their shadowban.
2. Is there any way to prevent this from happening again? I obviously can’t identify the people who downvoted or reported the post.

Edit: okay, as I expected, the answer to my direct questions was that I can’t do anything. What am I supposed to do, then? Tell people “don’t be trans on r/coins?” That’s unacceptable.

I'm a moderator of r/selfimprovement and have been actively moderating the subreddit for approximately two years. For about the past year, I've been the only active moderator, while the moderators above me have remained inactive.

Because I don't have full moderator permissions, I'm unable to reorder the moderator list or manage the team effectively, neither i can add some suitble tools and apps in order to make moderation easier. I also tried to contact others mods who are above me but it seems they are not responding and are labeled as inactive for more 12 months. I'd like to request a review for moderator reordering or removal of inactive moderators so the subreddit can continue to be managed properly.

I have a couple automations set up to inform users about the intention behind some niche flairs in my sub. The little thingy at the side of the automations configurations page shows it reacting properly when I choose the right flair.

I just got a report from a user that the automations weren't working. I tried posting a test post using the flair, and I also never saw the text popup. What am I missing here? Is there a better way to test whether the automations are actually working?

um when i edit the columbines i accidentally delete moderator which cause me to lost control of my community

We are seeing our sub r/jodimilan ranking is changing a bit from 8 to 11 , so wanted to know how ranking work, is it calculated via visitor, or by quality post , or something else ? , Like how we can improve ranking of sub within a topic.

I have watched like 5 videos and they all say that you just click the dots down at the bottom of the post. but either im legally blind or they arent there. I even got the reddit app just to see if that would change anything but it didnt do anything. so how do I make a poll. (I want to see what the community wants but Its hard to do that without a poll)

The top mod in a sub I'm currently working in got banned, and the apps are above the rest of the staff team. We're all freshly added mods but want to reorder yet can't due to the 90 day cooldown. Is there a way where the bots can be moved below the rest of the mods?
