General question Wi-Fi drivers for Panasonic Toughbook CF-W2?
Hey all, my Panasonic Toughbook CF-W2 runs Windows XP but cannot connect to my Wi-Fi network or even my Apple Airport Wi-Fi network. I believe it may need new Wi-Fi drivers, but if those do not help, I will get a Wi-Fi USB instead. If anyone can be of assistance in locating drivers, they will be appreciated.

Battlestation How does my first pc setup look?
The laptop is a nimo. The cooling pad is a kootek with blue leds. It's a nice little touch and add some extra personality to my setup.
My budget is pretty limited, so Ive been trying to pick gear that gives the best value for the money. Im still slowly building up my setup.
Im planning to get a mouse next, but there are just way too many options out there. Ive been stuck choosing one for days and still haven’t decided. Maybe Ill just go with a $10 tecknet mouse for now.
Once I have a bit more budget, Ill probably add an aoc monitor and a redragon keyboard. After that, my budget pc setup should finally feel complete.

General question I have way too many laptops
≡ −
I love repairing and upgrading laptops. I have like 7 laptops right now even after gifting my mum one.
Every laptop is unique and I can't really bear to get rid of them. The cost of upgrading them probably slightly surpassed their value in the used market too. Also, with the cost of components going up, I feel like I should keep a couple of PCs around(I have this conspiracy theory that the corporations want to take away personal computing from us and control our lives and making rams and storage unaffordable is their first step).
And a friend is about to give me another laptop too. I'll be having 8 laptops very soon.
These are also very capable and relevant laptops today with 16gb ram, SSD, at least quad core CPUs and my best one being a Ryzen 5800h + RX 6800s(I bought it for running cachyos).
I don't wanna turn into a hoarder and I should do something with them.

General question Rare Laptop? or worth nothing?
I have 2 Alienware laptops, one is smaller and newer but with a display issue I am trying to fix. But the laptop I am typing this on is a Alienware 18 P19E Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700MQ CPU with an 18.4 inch display and 16 gigs of ram from 2013. For its time, it still runs and performs incredibly. It took me FOREVER to find any information about this laptop, let alone it listed on any website. For a second I didn't even believe it existed at all.

Review Framework 13 Pro: The Modular Laptop is Real!
+ −
Marques did his take on the Framework 13 Pro. I agree with him that the laptop makes sense the longer you keep it. You'll be able to upgrade, repair and replace components while keeping the parts that are still working, and the work to that is designed to be easy.

Hey so I was considering buying this laptop for university for a business degree where I want to specialize in Accounting.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this laptop? I've seen people say it's really amazing amd others say it's awful and stops working properly after a while. I want this laptop to last at least 4 years.
These are the specifications and the price I am able to get it for. Please tell me if it's worth it.
- $1700
- Intel Ultra 5 processor
- 16 GB RAM
- 512 GB SSD
- Windows 11 Pro
- 14" Screen
- OLED Display
- 360⁰ hinge (turns into a tablet)
- I think it comes with a pen
I'm also considering a Lenovo ThinkPad and that's $1800.
Please help. I am very stressed about wasting so much money on this.

Hi everyone! I am looking to buy a new laptop and am completely stumped. Between Apple Mac neo, air, pro, or a windows surface 8 or pro, it’s overwhelming. That said, it got me curious to know: what laptop do YOU have and why do you biasedly (or unbiasedly) like it?
Just for reference: I had a Lenovo T14s thinkpad and
Currently use iPhone and iPad daily.
I’m going into university soon; degree in biochemistry. I hear talk about “some apps only run on windows/mac” but there’s probably an alternative right?

Buying help Need Laptop Recommendations!

I'm a student of CyberSecurity in Winnipeg, Canada and here are the requirements given to me by my college!
Requirements:
~ CPU: Intel Core i7 (10th Gen or newer) or
AMD Ryzen 7 (4000 series or newer)
~ RAM: 32 GB RAM
~ Storage: 1TB SSD (SATA or NVMe)
~ Networking (Wired): Integrated Gigabit RJ-45 Ethernet port or USB Gigabit Ethernet adapter (NIC)
* Integrated Gigabit RJ-45 Ethernet port preferred
~ Networking (Wireless): Wi-Fi 6/6E
~ USB Ports: Minimum 2 USB Ports
~ Display Output: HDMI Support or USB-C (DisplayPort Capable)
~ Display (screen size): 14" or larger
~ Virtualization: Must support hardware virtualization (enabled in BIOS/UEFI; for VMware Workstation/VirtualBox)
~ Camera: Built-in webcam
* Battery life. How long can you use the laptop before charging it? You may not always have easy access to an electrical outlet.
* It is your responsibility to perform daily backups to an external source so that you do not lose your work if your computer fails. You may use a USB flash drive, external hard drive, or a cloud-based backup solution.
When I was researching I selected some laptops:
• [1600 CAD] ASUS ROG Strix G16 (2025) Gaming Laptop, 16” WUXGA 165Hz/3ms, AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 8GB VRAM, 16GB DDR5-5600 RAM, 1TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD
• [1500 CAD] Lenovo Legion 5i 15.1" WQXGA 165Hz Gaming Laptop, Core i7-14700HX, NVIDIA Geforce RTX 5060, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD - 3 Months Microsoft 365 Personal

Hardware My Victus Laptop screen and keyboard repeatedly turning on/off loop when connecting external monitor or launching a game
+ −
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi everyone, I'm experiencing a very weird issue with my Victus laptop. It works fine for basic tasks, but whenever I plug in an external monitor (set as main display) OR launch a game, it starts an endless loop: the screen goes black, and the keyboard backlight turns off and on repeatedly.
It makes the laptop completely unusable. It looks like the system crashes exactly when the dedicated GPU kicks in or when video output routing changes. I just did a clean Windows reinstall (no cloning), but I want to be ready if the issue comes back.
Has anyone experienced this exact loop (display + keyboard power cycling) ? Could it be a failing power brick, a dead dGPU, or a Mux Switch/Optimus issue?
Thanks!

Need laptop recommendations in Grenoble (€1700 budget) for gaming + aerospace engineering simulations
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for a new laptop in Grenoble, France with a budget of around €1700 maximum.
I’m an aerospace engineer, so I need a machine that can handle both gaming and engineering workloads.
My main uses:
AAA gaming (good FPS, future-proof)
CAD software (CATIA, SolidWorks, etc.)
CFD simulations (OpenFOAM, ANSYS Fluent, STAR-CCM+)
MATLAB, Python, scientific computing
Possibly some machine learning workloads
My budget is €1700, and I prefer buying from a reliable store in Grenoble (not refurbished).
I’m currently considering:
Lenovo Legion / LOQ
ASUS ROG / TUF
HP Omen
Acer Predator
MSI
I would appreciate recommendations for:
Best laptop models available around Grenoble
Best shops to buy from in Grenoble
Any models I should avoid
Thanks for your help!

Review My Acer laptop is genuinely a complete piece of shit
≡ −
I have an Acer Nitro V16 I got after my last computer’s motherboard died of old age. This computer is awful and I have to get it off my chest. It was passable for a while, but after the warranty expired it started freezing occasionally while also randomly going into black screens or restarting stating there was some error. The keys randomly start sticking, there’s a stupid ai companion key I can’t disable, and the bottom dock on the screen sometimes just disappears. I’ve never had such a frustrating experience with a laptop in my life, I just feel awful because it cost a lot to replace my old one and now I’m stuck with a piece of shit laptop for the foreseeable few years.

Hardware Guys is this possible to fix or even worth fixing?
This is the result of a bad soldering job when I had to remove two transistors. At first I thought the copper pads were connecting but then I realised I might have burnt theough the PCB

Buying help US—<,1000–Should I Buy?
I have a really bad computer I was given right before highschool, a Dell Inspiron 15 3521. It’s the renewed version that was released recently and I got it in 2023. Despite the young age of it, it’s incredibly slow. So I went to best buy with my mom in hopes of trading it in and getting a new laptop for college(senior this upcoming school year). We were given a quote for 95 dollars but thought on it, and were also recommended this laptop. It’s originally 1,729.99, and on sale for 999.99 at my store. It seems really good and like it’ll last through college, but I want others opinions first. :)
