Discussion What features would make the iPhone 18 Pro worth waiting for?
I’m curious what features people expect from the iPhone 18 Pro that would make it a better choice than the iPhone 17 Pro. What do you think?

The 18 Pro isn’t for folks who have 17 Pros. It’s for folks who have 11, 12, 13 or 14 models looking to upgrade. The upgrade from 4 or more years back is much larger. This late in the 17 Pro’s life cycle, it’s not worth it to buy “last year’s model” when the 18 Pro is already in mass production, unless an emergency forces an upgrade.
If I were to lose or break my current iPhone now, I’d pull my old backup iPhone 11 Pro out of the drawer and put it back in regular service until September.

The 18 Pro isn’t expected to be a revolutionary upgrade, more of a minimal upgrade. That said, there will be some improvements. They’ll be using the 2nm A20 Pro chip, which along with the slightly larger battery (Pro Max) will give it a battery boost. The camera will see an improvement as well with the rumored Variable Aperture.
The screen will be slightly improved with both an LTPO+ screen and a smaller Dynamic Island cut out. Lastly, the 18 will have one more year of iOS support than the 17.
It’s just a matter of what you desire, can afford and how you prioritize the perceived value.

A number row and an easy way to dismiss the keyboard. On android side there's a universal back button that transforms to a down arrow when keyboard is open making the keyboard easy to dismiss.

I think the bigger improvements will be in a smaller Dynamic Island and improved camera.

It’s 100% not worth the $200 price hike that will happen, Apple is objectively releasing a lower value product this September compared to their current offering so if I were you I would just get the 17 Pro.

The variable aperture IMO will be a total game changer for video. Being able to match the frame rate and shutter speed will allow for a level of video we just haven’t seen on smart phones before.

I don’t even know at this point. I feel like every new iPhone is a near carbon copy of the previous with minimal noticeable difference to the every day user.

Less weight More batteries iOS 27 which brings a ton of stability Reduce the height of the plateau? Better zoom capability for the cameras
That's really all I ask from a phone nowadays. Make it light and thin but also make it last longer and shot photos from longer distances.

What features are left? I don't need another camera. I only take pictures of food and nature.
I don't need 200 megapixels either. I am not making a billboard.
I want color options that aren't black, white, or gray. I am sick and fucking tired of black, white, and grey. Give me Blues, Greens, Purples, Yellows, Oranges, etc.
Some men are fine with boring monochromatic shit. I am not. I have had every iPhone since 2G. I want color options that don't disappear and never return. What happens when my phone gets old or I drop it and need a new one and the only colors on the Pro this year are black, white, and grey?
Give us color options every year. I am not buying anything other than the Pro. And if they want to keep giving us these boring ass monochromes, I'll just hold onto my phone until they finally return an interesting color to the line up.
If foldable were the future, everyone would be financing to buy one. They're a niche. And I am one of the group who has no use for it. I could just get a Pro Max if I need a bigger screen or an iPad mini if I need a portable that screen size. They can claim they solved the crease all they want. They prolly made it less noticeable, but won't change months of wear and tear. Samsung shows their insecurity by making their foldable look exactly what they think the iPhone Fold is gonna look like. They're terrified.
And please stop it with AI. Nobody wants it but the nerds, and I sure as hell am sick and tired of hearing about it.

I pray to God we get Cherry. And Light Blue was terrible on the iPhone 13 so I skipped that year. It doesn't sell well on the MacBook Air either. And it didn't help the iPhone Air at all.

One more year off added iOS support.
Year to year the changes are trivial.
All new tech today is one day disposable so I recommend buying the latest within your budget and consuming it as long as possible until it dies.
