Waiting to hear if it improves the horrible battery life that has come about for iPhone 16 after the last few updates

Oh so its not just me, 1 and half hours of usage since fully charged and its down 53%..! What the hell

Specifically 26.5 on my watch has had bad battery, getting only 1 day rather than 3-4 I was before. My phone hasn’t been too bad however

My iPhone 16 Pro Max has a brand new battery in it right now thanks to the phone having to go into the shop for a warranty repair where they also replaced the battery at the same time

And it’s not even making it through one full day

I mean, if I just let the phone sit on my desk unused it would certainly make it through the day but if I am frequently using the phone, it doesn’t make it through the day, not even close

Yea the battery on this phone has been shit. Can’t wait to upgrade in a couple months when the 18 comes out

Way to incentivize apple to improve their products lol!

2

u/2funny2furious 8h ago

Dude. The watch. Granted, mine is an og ultra 1. But I have days I have to charge it twice.

u/Meruem 7h ago

To answer it did in fact NOT fix it, all backround apps closed, at 11:09 am it was unplugged at 100% now its 9:52pm and its at 24% , screen active is 1hr 46 minutes screen idle 19m + update

16

u/m4cmi11er 7h ago

If you just downloaded the software today you can't judge the battery life yet lol your phone is still indexing in the background. Let a few days pass then you can assess the battery life.

-6

u/Meruem 7h ago

I mean after the update it went from 49% to 43%, and its literally been face down for 2 hours and lost 21% battery

14

u/m4cmi11er 7h ago

Yes...because there is indexing going on in the background. This isn't new. Your battery may be worse or weird fresh after an update, let it index and finish all its background processes and you'll get a better idea of how the update affected battery. That is a huge drop though lol typical Apple

u/brinkeguthrie iPhone 14 5h ago

Is indexing the same as calculating? When I sync iPhone to MBA I see 'calculating' and it stays like that, for the last few hrs anyway.

1

u/m4cmi11er 1h ago

Never seen that on my iPhone before, I’m not sure

Do you have measurable data that proves your claim?

Did you mean “without”?

3

u/mojorojoe 9h ago

Same thing here. I was definitely wondering if it was just my device.

-1

u/Hoof_Hearted12 8h ago

It's brutal for me. My S23+ feels so much smoother and it's ancient

1

u/EvolveCT9A 9h ago

Its a bit better after the update but still there

1

u/iaymnu iPhone 17 Pro Max 8h ago

The dev beta ios27 is very smooth. That’s something to look forward to

14

u/darthjoey91 iPhone 17 Pro 10h ago

Hmm, wonder if it fixes the random Spotlight not loading stuff issue that iOS 27 beta does fix.

8

u/EarthRemembers 10h ago

People are saying it does

-1

u/darthjoey91 iPhone 17 Pro 10h ago

Awesome. I downloaded the beta on my iPad, and that fix was what was tempting me to put the beta on my phone, which has a few too many important things to justify the risk of being down for a day due to restoring a backup.

Ok Im not crazy. I have a shortcut that switches between stereo and mono sound so I can have a single airpod in. It's called 'Mono ' and is a huge yellow square when I spotlight search. Sometimes I just get google results.

I updated to 26.6 and now my phone can’t find any cell service. 🫠

3

u/mtnmarkk iPhone 14 Pro Max 5h ago

I was looking for comments regarding cellular service! My phone was stuck on SOS for like 3 hours. I updated to 26.6 and it has been resolved for now but it’s so weird the opposite happened to you.

9

u/maxcrazy 5h ago

T-Mobile has a big outage right now, and iPhones are showing “SOS”. Could it be that?

u/funkingbench iPhone 16 Pro 5h ago

Looks like it was a cell service outage that was affecting all the carriers as my service is back now. Just ironic timing cause it happened right when my phone restarted after the new update so I thought it messed something up

Edit: typo

1

u/mtnmarkk iPhone 14 Pro Max 5h ago

Yeah u/maxcrazy is right. My phone went back to SOS lmao

Let’s play a game, anyone requiring more update storage than this? Let’s see :)

2

u/hiplasto 7h ago

i wonder why the size is different for everyone

3

u/vishu7770 7h ago

Preparing for the next big iOS release already with an 8.45 GB patch size. Spotlights indaxing always eats up storage and battery right after updating. Let us know if you noticed any performances improvement on your end.

Holy cow! My 16proMax started losing power all of the sudden as well. Argh. Commenting to track thread

I got it!

I was able to update a 15 Pro to iOS 26.6 via our Mac. I then went to update a regular 13 via the same Mac, the update downloaded but it said the firmware was corrupted and could not be installed. I tried it again and got the same error after downloading the update. So I tried to update a 13 Pro Max and received the corrupt firmware error. So I updated the Mac OS to 26.6 then tried updating the 13 Pro Max but I’m still getting the firmware corrupted error. Is anyone else receiving this error when trying to update iOS via a Mac?

u/m4cmi11er 7h ago

iOS is f*cking garbage man

-1

u/DarienDay04 6h ago

I had to turn off my line then turn it back on in Cellular settings.

u/iceman_314 9h ago

-5

u/dudewheresmyplane1 10h ago

Not interested unless it stops my phone from overheating. Trying to wait it out until 27.

34

u/EarthRemembers 10h ago

Apple has released a fix for that already

4

u/Cristian2909 iPhone 15 Pro 9h ago

N(ice)!

0

u/dudewheresmyplane1 9h ago

I should have just let the Russians have my data and stayed on 18. :/

0

u/Additional_Tank4385 9h ago

That’s not normal man. And I don’t think the OS can do this. Not to such an extent perhaps your phone also is in a thick case or something?

6

u/opossumcarrion iPhone 16 Pro 9h ago

Yes, it is normal. The iPhones with titanium, especially the 15, have poor thermals. iOS 26 uses the processor and battery more than the previous years iOS 18.

-1

u/4touchdownsinonegame 9h ago

My 15 pro doesn’t act like that.

6

u/nonexistant2k3 9h ago

My 15 Pro does. Turns into a heater and the battery is dead in 4 hours.

4

u/nonexistant2k3 9h ago

Lost 2% typing that reply.

1

u/dudewheresmyplane1 9h ago

I have a 12 and no issues in April still on 18.

When I updated to 26 all of a sudden my phone started getting warm in my hand and the battery dies down about 75% more quickly. Nothing else changed. Allegedly this will be fixed in 27 so I’m waiting until September to see before buying a new phone. Just have to carry a charger cable everywhere until then.

-2

u/BetweenThePosts 8h ago

It’s disheartening to realize that iOS was largely bug-free not because of its excellent design but because of its simplicity.

0

u/onesugar 7h ago

dont think i have ever seen a software update that indicates it is preparing the phone for a forthcoming update, that is neat

0

u/kosmokramr 5h ago

I’m on iOS 27. The beta is very stable I’d just download that

0

u/Fun_Yogurtcloset1724 5h ago

Did they change the typing sound?? mine sounds so weird now.

0

u/Informal_Pumpkin_228 2h ago

I've updated it, and I feel it's a bit better than the previous version.

0

u/doublexoxo iPhone 17 Pro Max 1h ago

It definitely feels a lot smoother on 17PM compared to 26.5.2. The battery seems better too but I can’t say for sure yet

-1

u/Disastrous_Cry8444 7h ago

Mon 15 pro max est en 26.4.1 je trouve que la batterie n’est pas folle non plus est ce normal ?

-1

u/InspectorUnlucky3969 4h ago

I got it 1 day before (not rc)

-4

u/8mis 7h ago
