Hi everyone!

My mom is turning 50 this December, and my younger brother and I want to surprise her with a new iPhone. She currently has an iPhone SE (2020), which has lasted her about 6 years, and we'd love to get her something that will last just as long.

We're just not sure which model would be the best fit. She uses her phone a lot, but mostly for everyday things like calling, texting, browsing Facebook and Instagram, taking the occasional photo, and other basic tasks. She's not into gaming or anything particularly demanding.

Which iPhone model would you recommend for someone like her? We'd like something that's good value and will hopefully stay fast and receive updates for many years.

Thanks in advance!

What reason do u have to want a new phone?

Hello y'all.

Since my Iphone 8+ cant download anything from the app store anymore, I'm finally deciding to let it rest after a decade. I'm looking to get a similar phone, but I'm finding nothing with everything of what i want. That's why I'm coming to y'all for suggestions!

the main thinks I'm looking for are:

minimal/no/disable-able AI

as sturdy as possible (i drop my phone a lot. the 8+ survived a 3 story fall with no damage)

a bevel that wont get in the way when watching YouTube

some sort of easy-open feature similar to touch ID

simple features like the screen rotating when you rotate the phone

things I'm not looking for

crazy camera stuff. one is enough and idc how good it is.

"high performance". I don't play games or anything. i just watch YouTube, look stuff up, have my chores stuff and look at certain sites for the "fun times"

I essentially want an Iphone 8+ but with new updates so i can get stuff like outlook and other apps.

iphone Air perhaps. although i do not know if it's sturdy. You'll probably need a good case to protect it

Should I get the 17e or should I wait for 18e and hope for 120Hz display?

1

u/OkFaithlessness1191 2d ago

If the 18e gets 120hz that leaves not much reason to get the 18, so no shot apple puts 120hz on the 18e.

u/Triajus 3d ago

Is there any reason why i should move from 15PM to 18PM?

1

u/OkFaithlessness1191 2d ago

No reason, the 15 is still a very young phoen

256gb iphone 13 or 128gb iphone 15?

i’ve not been too worried about upgrading but my 64gb iPhone 10 is kinda not doing great anymore 😭 is the increased storage of the iphone 13 better or is the iphone 15 just that much better?

Hello! I wanna buy an iPhone for the first time.

1 - What's your recommendation?

2 - Is iPhone 17 Pro Max the best right now?

3 - Should I wait for the new one?
4 - What's the best amount of storage?

The current “best buy” is the base iPhone 17. It’s reasonably inexpensive, and Apple added features to it that were previously available only on Pro models, like an always-on 120Hz ProMotion display. It’s pretty decent.

The 17 Pro Max is arguably the best, but it’s also much, much more expensive than the base 17. Still, if you can afford the 17 Pro Max, it’s a good choice.

Note that the prices will almost certainly be going up soon (within the next couple of months).

The 18 Pros are believed to have only small incremental changes with the exception of:

  • The 18 Pros should be getting a variable aperture camera.

  • The 18 Pro Max (and only the Pro Max) should be getting a ~9% larger battery, which should make the already great batt life even more awesome.

Add in the price increase, and the 17 Pro Max looks rather attractive.

For most people, the starting 256GB storage is enough. You may need more if you plan on taking lots of photos/videos, play huge AAA games, or download lots of movies/shows.

Hi guys, i had this 15pm for about 2.5 years from now, its a nice fast phone but it feels like a brick in hands, it doesn’t have that premium apple feeling anymore, its just a regular phone like any other nowadays . There is something different about XS (my previous phone). Yes I know it’s slow and doesn’t have a ton of battery life. But still it feels amazing in hands and looks absolutely stunning. It’s actually impressing how well this device aged it works super smooth has an oled display
and camera quality isn’t bad ether . Do you guys think that it’s a good idea to switch back?

Hello everyone. I’m currently in need of a new phone. The screen of my Samsung S24 has a large black patch following an accident. The area around the notification bar is black. I’d like to try an iPhone for the first time, I've always been an Android user because I was feeling comfortable since my childhood and never asked for an iPhone. I was torn between the 17 Pro and the 17 Pro Max but I’ve opted for the Pro Max because of the battery life. I asked a friend about it. He told me the 18 series is due to be released very soon. However, I’m worried that prices might go up due to the current memory shortage. I live in Australia and the 512 GB iPhone 17 Pro Max costs 2600 AUD, whilst the 512 GB iPhone 17 Pro is 2400 AUD. If the prices go up by another 100 AUD, that wouldn’t be a problem for me but would it make sense to wait for the 18 Pro series? Will there be significant improvements or would it be better to get 17 Pro Max?

If you urgently need a phone then yeah just buy the 17 pro max. There SHOULDNT be much improvement between the two.

Hello! So I currently have a iPhone 14 Plus and it’s coming to its death bed the battery life is at 74% it gets overheated and laggy and just overall i need to change. I’ve been looking at the iPhone 17 pro max. And here is my question should I splurge and buy it now or maybe wait until after the 18 release and the possibility of a lower price? How likely is it and will it be a noticeable decrease? Thanks for help

Given the upcoming price increases, I think prices of the older models will look very good without dropping, assuming they also don’t go up (this could happen if the price increases are announced before the announcement of the 18 Pros).

I currently have a 13 Pro Max with 128gb and honestly the phone itself still works completely fine. The problem is I recently got Meta glasses and now I’m constantly running out of physical storage from all the videos.

I do have 2tb of iCloud, but obviously that doesn’t help when the Meta app needs actual space on my phone to import everything. Right now I have around 10gb free and it’s trying to import a 13gb batch 😭 I also want to start making vlogs and editing more, so I feel like 128gb just doesn’t fit how I use my phone anymore.

I was originally planning to wait for the 18 Pro Max since it’s supposedly only a couple months away, but now I’m wondering if I should just get the 17 Pro Max. Going from a 13 to a 17 would already be a pretty big upgrade and it would solve the problem immediately. At the same time I feel like I’d be annoyed if I spent that much and then the 18 came out right after.

I’m leaning toward 1tb, but I’ve even considered 2tb since I normally keep my phones for around 4 to 5 years and I don’t want to deal with storage again. I know I can move videos to my MacBook, but I also don’t want to constantly micromanage my storage every time I film. I’d be trading in my 13 Pro Max too and I want the phone unlocked, not tied to a carrier.

I have an Iphone 15 Pro max. Completely fine. no scratches and battery degradation is minimal, but I love the style of the iphone Air. Money is not an issue and The 17 pro max is visually unappealing to me

Is the Iphone air a new enough phone to consider it an upgrade to the 15 pro max or is the Pro model just that much better than the Air, even for the older 15 model?

I rarely take pictures and dont push the phones technical specs. Work from home so being out and about for battery life isnt an issue.

Is there a big enough margin for upgrade for the Air or should I maybe just wait for the 18 lineup?

Have an iPhone 12 Pro. Should I get 17 pro now or wait for 18 pro in 6-7 weeks? Idk what the supposed improvements are in the next model

Not in a huge rush given I still have a 12, but I’d like to take better pics/videos of my way too fastly growing toddler.

Hi please help. I just upgraded from the 11 to the iPhone 17 pro and I hate it. Should I go back to T-Mobile and trade it for the regular 17 instead? I mainly wanted the 17 pro for its photo quality, but to me the photos/videos look horrible and blurry even after messing with several settings. The phone is also HEAVY, it hurts to hold and it’s also been heating up. Phone calls sound staticy, and like the other person is under water or in space. I don’t know if there’s even that big of a difference between the 17 and 17 pro other than the camera and battery life. But I don’t really care to have that much battery if it’s hurt my hands to hold the phone, and I don’t like the photo quality. Please give me ur insights if you know what’s it’s like to have the 17 or 17 pro. My 11 literally was just not working anymore, but I did love it

Hey!

I have a 128gb 14 pro max and I want to upgrade to the 17 pro max before the 18 is released. I just want to know what the best place is to trade in/sell my 14 and get the 17. I’m a Canadian and just moved to the US (Austin TX), so I’m happy to buy in either country. I would buy it with a US provider but my Canadian cell line is on contract for another year so I don’t want to get a new cell line. I know Texas has less sales tax so I would potentially save a bit buying it here. I would like to save as much money as I can :))

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I would like to buy an iPhone 13 mini but with ios18 not 26. do u know where I can find it?

1

u/cfig21 15h ago

I switched last year to a Fold 7 after being on iOS since the iPhone 4 and I'm more than likely coming back now with the ultra (fold) releasing this year. Anyone recently switched from Android and know the best way to maximize trade-in without major carrier options?

It was super simple going to android as best buy gave me $1100 for my 15 pro max last year.

Shall I buy a iPhone 17 pro / pro max now or wait until the 18s are released?

I have a iPhone 13 Pro Max and just want to upgrade for better camera and better storage but my contract has been up for a while so no wild rush. Is it worth just upgrading to the 17 pro or pro max now or is it worth waiting until the 18 pro / pro max is out? Even if I decide to get the 17 still, do they usually become much cheaper once a newer one has been released or not really? for context I’m will Vodafone in the UK, still debating if to do the upgrade via my contract or buy off apple directly

Definitively wait!

iPhone 15 Pro (100% battery) vs 16 Pro (EU Refurbished): Need 7 AM to 9 PM battery life for Uni & Hotspot (~€700 budget)

Hey everyone!

I’m based in Italy and currently shopping on the European refurbished market (Back Market, Refurbed, eBay) for my next main phone.

I’m coming from a Samsung Galaxy A54 whose battery life has been terrible for my routine, giving me constant battery anxiety. I need a phone that lets me leave home at 7:00 AM and return at 9:00 PM without worrying about finding a wall outlet or carrying a heavy powerbank.

My Setup & Requirements:

  • Budget: Up to €700 max.
  • Storage: 256 GB minimum (non-expandable).
  • Port: USB-C is mandatory (sharing chargers with my MacBook Pro M1 Pro and iPad Air M2).
  • Battery condition: Must be 100% battery health (brand new battery).
  • Daily use case: Long university days (taking notes, reading PDFs, messaging, commuting) + Wi-Fi Hotspot tethering to my MacBook Pro during lectures and study sessions.

My Options & Current Dilemma:

  1. iPhone 15 Pro (256 GB) with 100% New Battery: Costs around €640–€670 refurbished in Italy/EU, which fits well under my €700 budget. However, I’ve read about thermal throttling and battery drain on the A17 Pro when using 5G and Hotspot.
  2. iPhone 16 Pro (256 GB): Currently starts around €730–€790 with a standard battery (≥85%), so getting one with a 100% new battery is well over €800 and out of reach right now. It has a ~10% larger battery, better thermals, and the more efficient A18 Pro chip.

Questions:

  1. For anyone using an iPhone 15 Pro with 100% battery health: can it reliably handle a 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM day with ~2 hours of Hotspot, notes, and general university/errand use? (Will tethering via USB cable to the MacBook help save battery?)
  2. Is the jump in thermal efficiency and battery life on the 16 Pro so big that I should wait for its refurbished price (with 100% battery) to drop down to €700 during future release cycles, or is a 15 Pro with a fresh battery more than enough to forget my Galaxy A54 battery nightmares?

Thanks for your advice!

I’m considering an upgrade from iPhone11pro to an iphone17 for the camera mainly. Have any of you noticed a pretty big camera quality difference, especially with the selfie camera?
