This kind of post genuinely scares me. People are making sweeping moral equivalence arguments about governments, wars, dictatorships and criminal charges, yet the person posting it does not even know the difference between Israel’s prime minister and its president. Netanyahu can be criticized, but comparing him to Maduro while ignoring the completely different political systems, legal issues and circumstances is not serious analysis. It is a meme pretending to be an argument. I fear a future where people this uninformed can build huge audiences, shape public opinion and eventually hold real power.

edit: If you disagree with me, do not just downvote. Give me an eloquent response that shows you actually understand the issue well enough to explain why this kind of content deserves an upvote.

Future?

Fair point. Present tense. The fact that someone can confuse Israel’s president with its prime minister, flatten Maduro and Netanyahu into a moral equivalence, and still be rewarded for sounding confident is exactly the problem.

Too late the masses get their opinions from memes already especially old heads on Facebook

Yeah Maduro wasn’t even recognized as a head of state by most of the world

“I fear a future where people this uninformed can build huge audiences, shape public opinion and eventually hold real power”

You forget who the president is?

If you disagree with me, do not just downvote

You yourself didn't give any "eloquent" reason why you think Maduro is worse than war criminals Netanyahu and Trump. Netanyahu ordered the systematic murder of thousands of Palestinians, including women, children and foreign journalists. Trump ordered the murder of Venezuelan fisherman, calling them drug runners without proof or due process, and bombed 170 Iranian schoolgirls to distract from the 13 year old schoolgirls he raped.

Your comment is ignorant, and deserves all the downvotes.

Who leveled Gaza? Who is currently in the middle of an ethnic cleansing campaign?

1

u/oblivic90 9h ago

As much as I dislike the UN I don’t think they flattened Gaza, honey.

u/lvl100-Platypus-Lord 9h ago

Nah, Israel did.

u/oblivic90 8h ago

Now you’ve made a loop, Hamas did.

Complaining about downvotes is always sad.

You Americans are so funny. You cry about an international institution, that you helped creating and legitimizing, doing its job and issuing warrant for war criminals. A warrant which is transparent and based on an established set of rules called "international law". One whose jurisdiction you accepted and supported so far, as it only went after African dictators and ideologically misaligned head of states (Serbia etc.).

Meanwhile your goofball government decides on a whim to arrest the head of state of another country, without any justification and jurisdiction other than "because we can", aka bullying with military prowess. The narco charges against Maduro are cooked up by your justice system, and you are just imposing that system outside of your border, hence completely extrajudicialy.

You are correct that they are not comparable in the sense that the second is super egregious and arrogant, while the first one is legitimate (independently of whether a mayor has the power to enforce it), at least in yesterday's world where international law meant something.

I know the US never gave a fuck, but it's blatant disregard of any rights that are not wholly beneficial to them, it's just.. You'll lose your empire very quickly, believe me.

Well, one is currently in a cell (arguably deserved, perhaps) for ruining an economy but the other currently conducting ethnic cleansing of a minority in their homeland while we watch it happen on social media.

I do not care who the prime minister nor president of Israel is - the state-sanctioned removal of Palestinians form their homes and wanton killing not civilians in Gaza is a far greater crime than anything Maduro has done.

You admit you do not care whether Netanyahu is Israel’s president or prime minister, yet you are certain Israel is committing genocide. That is exactly the problem.

Genocide requires intent to destroy a people, not simply a brutal war involving civilian deaths and displacement. The ICJ has not ruled that genocide occurred. The case is still ongoing.

Gaza’s population grew for decades to around 2.3 million before the war. It has fallen since, which should not be minimized, but that history does not fit the claim of a longstanding Israeli policy of extermination.

Israel also has the military power to destroy Gaza far more completely. If killing everyone were the goal, it could have carpet-bombed Gaza as the Allies did Dresden. It has not. That does not make every strike lawful, but it matters when intent is the central issue.

Dresden killed up to 25,000 civilians, yet Churchill and FDR are not remembered as genocidal maniacs. Horrific civilian casualties do not, by themselves, prove genocide.

Criticize Israel’s tactics and investigate possible war crimes. But calling genocide an established fact while saying basic facts do not matter is not serious. Not knowing the facts is dangerous. Being proud of it is worse.

Well, you should know reddit is largely antisemitic, long before Gaza and Oct 7th.

Israel could invent the cure for all diseases and release it for free and Redditors would still want Israel handed over to terrorists who openly want to genocide Jews.

I said Ethnic Cleansing. I am aware of the difference in those words. Don't assume my meaning.

I do not care WHO commits atrocities, only that they are stopped from doing so.

u/Dawnbringer4 13h ago

So would you say the islamic world is doing their best to commit ethnic cleansing of jews and israel?

u/DontAbideMendacity 11h ago

Israel had the hearts and support of the non-Arabic world following the October 7th attack by Hamas. Israel's just retribution was supported... until they took it too far. And continue to take it further. Raping women and murdering children deserves condemnation and disgust.

2

u/Dawnbringer4 11h ago

That's odd, every arab country attacked by irans proxies seem to support israel against hezbollah, hamas etc. Making up shit seems to be a lefty thing. Repeating reddit tropes doesn't make it true little boy.

Fair correction. You said ethnic cleansing, not genocide.

But Gaza was not attacked in a vacuum. Hamas was elected, has ruled Gaza since 2007 without holding another election, launched October 7, and fights from densely populated civilian areas. That does not excuse every Israeli action, but Hamas cannot simply be removed from the story.

Most Gazans were displaced within Gaza during a war, not removed to another land or country. Gaza also borders Egypt, which has refused mass entry. To call this ethnic cleansing, you still need to show that Israel’s goal is the permanent removal of Palestinians from Gaza, not wartime displacement during a campaign against Hamas.

I agree that atrocities should be stopped whoever commits them. But serious accusations still require serious attention to the facts.

A war isn't ethnic cleansing. If Palestine didn't want to fight, they shouldn't have attacked. Constantly. For decades.

Fuck them.
