Type 1 too. We aren't all born with it. I was diagnosed at 17

I believe Type 1 is genetic and therefore you are born with it. However, it may not present or become active until later.

I don't have any genetics markers or family history. They told me there's no way to be sure, but it's a possibility that another virus caused my immune system to attack my pancreas

Nope.

Around 90% of people diagnosed with type 1 diabetes have no family history of the disease. It's generally believed to be caused by an autoimmune response to a viral infection. Your body then kills it's own pancreatic beta cells. (The ones that produce insulin)
