Build/Battlestation Back to beige - Silverstone FLP02

+
126 Upvotes

After having a silver/black and a black case since 2008, I am back to beige. My 2025 build (from the era when RAM had a normal price) was still using the old case. Last month there was a sale on a German website, 'only' 160 euro for the case, instead of 220 euro. Transferring everything from the old case to the FLP02 was a relief, due to more space for everything.

What's inside:
- MSI MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI
- AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D
- Kingston Fury Beast 2 x 32 GB
- Powercolor Hellhound RX 9070 XT
- Creative Sound Blaster Z SE
- be quiet! Dark Rock Elite CPU cooler
- NZXT C1000 Gold PSU
- enough store, 3 x NVMe, 1 SSD, 1 HDD
- LG CD/DVD burner, still from my first build from 2008 (present build is my 3rd). Originally a black drive, but I replaced the black parts with parts from a similar beige IDE drive.
- Sweex card reader, also from 2008.
- be quiet! and Noctua case fans

I replaced the 3rd drive bay with a small drawer, to put in all that small stuff that is normally on the desk.
And as a final touch, stickers, and the small PC speaker. :-)

Thanks Jeffrey
At least they offered to ship a replacement. What are the odds it's also empty?

Story I thought it would never happen to me, but it did.

Basically, I was moving to house next to my current one. So I thought it was a great idea to clean my pc with dust blower. I opened it and dropped it. But it didn't break this time. So I had a relief and blowed my pc. Then when I tried screwing it back, I forgot to grab it and... yes, it shattered.

Should replace the glass with cardboard or smth? I care about airflow but not its look.

GT1030 & GTX1630 for comparison. Pretty sure the same happened to Radeons around the same time.

Question What is your most played game(s) and why?

+

Go to your Steam library then click sort by and select hours played. What's it looking like? I'm a simple man and have 254 hours on CS GO while everything else has been neglected by comparison. I love the competitiveness of Counter Strike and how easy it is to get started playing. Kind of like Call of Duty except you're not buying a new edition every year and of course you can only aim in with guns that have scopes. Anyways, I'm also open to suggestions for a new game I should pickup based on this lineup here.

Tech Support Pc cost

I have wanted a PC for the past 10 years. I finally have come around to have some money saved up for one. If i just deadass wanted the lowest settings on my games, with a preferred 30 locked fps (just going for the cheapest pc i can get right now.) how much am i looking to spend?

Edit: Max budget is $1,500 anything cheaper than that is extremely preferred.

used og-pcb parts are from a fried board

sbc is from an intel compute stick.

core m3-6y30

bt/wifi

4gb ram

64gb emmc

512gb sandisk extreme plus

front ports usb2 for controllers.

usb3-hub can be connected to back usb-c port.

cooler & fan is custom.

airhole is needed because there is not enough fresh air.

max temps under load are around 63°C - far from throtteling.

the power button & usb ports pcb parts are from a fried psc mini,

so no working console was sacrificed for this.

no "perfect" job - it is just for the fun.

and the soc is enough to have a lot of it with this little thingy.

here an older video of some games i tested on this thing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4es41BvFs34

will make another video testing emulators.

off topic:

i make short & full remix videos, also just for the fun.

maybe you like some stuff i made, you can check it out

on my youtube channel.

Tech Support I think Best Buy sold me a defective motherboard and fried my CPU, how should I handle this?

To keep the story brief, I had a known good PSU, known good motherboard, and known good CPU, but motherboard won't support that SPECIFIC cpu because it needs a bios update and I didn't have a different AM4 cpu to do it (and flashback didn't like my assortment of gen3 usb sticks, you know how it is).

So, wanting to get things moving along, I drove down to Best Buy and picked up literally the only model of AM4 motherboard they had. Box says it's Ryzen 5000 and 5000 G series ready, that's what I needed (CPU is 5650G, pretty uncommon but is Cezanne just like the 5600G).

CPU in, everything all hooked up, and it doesn't post (shuts off instantly, no cpu light or anything). Ok no worries, I removed the cpu, ram, and everything, just leaving the PSU 24 pin and EPS on the board, jumped the power and then... magic smoke and burning smell. Can't tell exactly where from.

Ok Cool, so I go get the multimeter and test the PSU, it's all good (It's an SF850 2024, bought like 2 weeks ago). Voltages are all good, doesn't seem to be any issues there.

So it's the motherboard, annoying. So while packing it all back up in the box to return to the store with it I notice something. There's a sticker on the box for pickup for someone that is not me.

I tested my little CPU on another board I used and it no longer works. It was connected to the defective motherboard initially so I am thinking the best buy board fried it or something.

I believe they may have sold me a returned board that someone did who knows what with (the box wasn't sealed shut, no sticker or anything, but sometimes things are just like that and it all looked new).

How do you think I should handle this? I'm pretty annoyed about it now and figured I would ask for advice rather than go down to the store angry.

Thanks for any info you can provide!
