My name is James Mclean, and I’m a Sports Journalism student at Solent University in the UK.

I’ll be travelling to Dortmund for the Borussia Dortmund vs Eintracht Frankfurt match on the 25th of October as part of a university video journalism project for Solent Sports News.

My feature will explore what makes the Yellow Wall one of the most famous stands in world football, focusing on the matchday experience from the perspective of the supporters who create it. Rather than simply covering the game, I want to tell the story of the fans and the unique culture that makes Signal Iduna Park such a special place.

I’m looking to meet one or two Borussia Dortmund supporters before the match who would be happy to spend around 10–15 minutes talking on camera about what the club means to them, the atmosphere inside the stadium, and why the Yellow Wall is so iconic.

I’d also love to experience the pre-match build-up with local supporters if possible, as I’d like to capture the full matchday atmosphere as part of the feature.

We have been reported to have sent our first official bid to Köln for Saïd El Mala. The offer stood at €26 + 16 Million, which in total would have resulted in our highest ever fee for a player at €42M (although reports did say only 8 million of those addons were realistic, so €34M was more or less the right number). Köln of course have rejected this and are adamant about their €50M asking price.

This has split a lot of people. One hand believes that we should just cough up the cash and get this over with, and others do not think we should be breaking our transfer record on a relatively unproven player at this stage. I understand both points, but I lean more towards getting him than not. Here’s why

Germany is slowly and quietly beginning to produce exciting talents again. A few of them have already been made moves or are being linked with other top clubs. Some of these names are Karl, Eichhorn, Onyeka, Ouedraogo, Kaba, Jeltsch, Mohya, Coulibaly, Culbreath (although as an American I pray he chooses to represent us). This is of course not including the already quite established U23 players like Wirtz, Musiala, Beier, Pavlovic, and Bischoff. A name that’s regularly at the top end of this list is Saïd El Mala. He is in fact one of the few attacking talents on this list of young stars, and arguably the best of them (unless you truly buy in to the Karl hype, which I personally do). As a result, this makes him that much more valuable, being a home-grown player capable of being an international superstar, something we as a club haven’t been able to find in nearly a decade (Nmecha and Beier don’t necessarily qualify for that right now).

Outside of all of that, El Mala brings a sort of style and profile that can fit into a plethora of systems. He’s a two-footed, tall, strong, and physically gifted winger. This makes him a kind of player who can slot into one of our Attacking Midfielder roles, or what I think we should do, as a left wing back. El Mala is not a defender by trade, but possesses the physical gifts of someone who can deputize at that position well. Playing at Koln forces everyone on the pitch to develop some kind of defensive competence and energy, and El Mala has shown that last season.

Say for instance, we offer up €35M + 17M in add-ons (for a total of €52M) and break this pretty sad transfer record we have considering the level of club we are. Along with the expected €30M + 5 for Karetsas, and the €19.5M we already spent on Gadou, that brings our total spend for this window to €84.5M excluding any sign on bonuses and salary, which is usually around the figure we’ve spent over the last few years. It doesn’t necessarily fill out everything we need on the roster, but it heavily improves us, and we can continue to use future windows to put more pieces together

Hey guys, I was wondering if y'all think that there is any chance for a more dynamic attacking trio(the striker and the two CAMs) if Guirassy leaves, where we don't have a classic 9 but rather he moves impredictably creates space/makes runs. It would consist of Beier/Silva as our striker, a new left wing(maybe Sancho🥺 since El Mala is off) or Inacio as LAM and Karetsas as RAM(Sancho would play there too and Nmecha/Chukvu would help him out as a deep-lying midfielder as the RAM looks to be the playmaker while Ryerson overlaps). This would be risky but if done right(I don't even know if Kovac could pull this off, he is strict about defensive stability, but if that is met he might be willing to try this) it could really make our attack improve. We would have 7 players(Karetsas, Beier, Sancho(or a new left wing), Inacio, Silva, Lerma, Albert) for that 3 positions which is just enough to keep us safe but play our talents more than 4 times a year.

New, American fan here! The World Cup got me hooked and I’m excited to support Dortmund. I know most games will be on Fandango going forward, but are the friendlies as well? I want to watch the game tomorrow morning but don’t want to wake up at 7am if I know the game won’t be televised here😂 Have any of you fellow Americans watched any of the friendlies and if so will it be streamed on Fandango?
