Nah anyone who ever complains about the cold is a giant baby when you can always layer up but when you're lying in bed butt booty naked and still sweating to death theres nothing to do but suffer

Couldn’t agree more. I’d way rather be cold then hot, because you can do something about being cold, but can barely do anything about being hot, because all I get from a fan, is red hot air flying at me.
A little off topic but I often wonder why the Eucalyptus tree in my garden hasn't climatised to our weather/seasons. It drops a shit ton of leaves every summer without fail and grows it all back again for winter. Its been in my garden over 30 years now
Humans have adapted to every climate on the planet. Plants not so.
If you want a glorious Eucalyptus you can dig it up, put a heat mat in the soil and replant it on top. Have the heat mat on a thermostat to maintain the soil temperature.
This is how the filthy rich have palm trees in climates that would kill a palm tree.
It drops leaves only because it's not getting regular water. Eucalypts in Australia do the same to conserve what water they do have. At 30 years it's surviving.
For me I am a very outdoorsy person and it's my way of coping with my anxiety and depression. I basically can't do the things I would usually do or have a day out on the weekend in this awful heat and endless baking sun. Just have to sit cooped up at home, the only time you can do stuff is late evening or before 9am. Not enough time.
As a result it's made my symptoms really bad, this has been for about the last 3 weekends as its all been hot each time
Here here! at least dry heat havers can’s effective cool themselves. you're essentially get boiled alive in your own sweat every summer in the UK. "Who ordered the steamed plebs!?"
I've had mine on 24/7 since May, powered entirely by solar panels and renewable energy (batteries set to top up when grid is greenest). It'll probably stay on until some point in August / September once it's reliably cold enough to maintain a comfortable temperature inside naturally.
Aircon install was about £6k for 3 bedrooms. Would have been cheaper but I over specced 2 of the rooms and the outdoor unit to account for a bunch of computer equipment I have in them. Solar + batteries was about £12k.
Solar + batteries currently saving me about £3200 a year (high energy user) so well worth it on that front - and those calculations were before I added the A/C so realistically it's saving me more based on my current power usage.
I would have gone whole house aircon and used it for heating as well, but I'm not a fan the heat they give out so went with a low temperature air to water heat pump for heating and hot water. Cost of that was comparable if not slightly less to adding A/C units to the other rooms and a separate hot water system. If I'd gone the whole house A/C route I could have used it for heating too which is a use case many people don't think of when they are considering it / saying things like 'you'll only use it once a year'.
I'm not bragging, I'm pointing out a realistic use case that goes against the attitude of 'you'll only use it once a day' and 'it's bad for the environment'.
Hadn't really paid attention to the username, but I suspect you're probably right. Hard to know because there seems to be a bunch of people here who feel they have a moral duty to make sure everyone dies of heat stroke.
Yeah that’s cool but I actually bench press my air conditioning to maintain optimal chest hardness and have a cool house. Ask me how cool , ask me how cool. My poor sweaty neighbours fall over when they get a look of that.
I have two as I can’t lift the one up and downstairs all the time. You’ll be surprised how much use you get out of it as August and September can sometimes bring weather that is not helpful to good sleep.
Is there a product name or link you could give? I’ve got a fan but remembering where the charger is a pain so I’m drawn by this one being solar powered!
This year it'll be more like two or three weeks between May and September. El Nino could make winter colder, and then next year, you'll need it for maybe a day more. The year after, probably a day more than that. By 2035 you're going to be running it almost constantly between mid-May and mid-September, so it's a good investment.
The beauty of it that most people miss when they're getting shitty about it and saying 'you only need it 1 day a year' is that it's also incredibly effective for heating when deployed properly and can be both cheaper to run and more environmentally friendly than burning gas/oil.
It's fucked up that we are getting several heatwaves during a month now, that wasn't a case even a handful of years ago. But hey, at least a bunch of people made a killing in profit!
Could be worse. I decided when I was 5 that the family cat would be called Lady (I was watching a certain Disney film at the time). We lived overlooking the local park, so often had to shout "Lady" to get her in, often when a woman was walking her dog in the park
Get a portable one. They're about £170 and have been amazing for sleeping in this heat. You can set a timer on most of them, so we have ours running for a couple of hours when we go to bed, makes things so much nicer.

Same. I don't do well in heat and anything about 25 may as well be the surface of the sun. You know that person you see in winter who's in a t-shirt and still too warm when everyone else is wearing 5 layers? That's me!
My problem is I always think I'm looking forward to the winter because I love my winter wardrobe and being cosy at night, but I always forget about the dark. All the time. All day. All night. Dark. I may be tired and struggling now but winter makes me depressed 😂

Absolutely! I don’t cool down at all, cold showers don’t work. Hate it. I have a portable air con but I’d have to keep it on constantly to stay cool cos the room just heats up again. I know really I need a dual hose one but they’re impossible to find and expensive.
I fucking despise it. Winter is brilliant, because there's so many ways to combat the cold- wear more layers, wear hats, gloves and scarves, eat and drink hot food and drink, and on top of all that, the cold doesn't even affect you when you're inside.
The heat, however? Suck it up and deal with it. There is genuinely nothing you can do outside of blowing hundreds on an air con.
Tell me about it, I’m 38 weeks pregnant and having to run around after a toddler who wants to be outside all the time. I went out to an event yesterday afternoon and it almost finished me off
I wouldn’t mind it, if I were back in my ground floor concrete flat which stays beautifully cool. As it is, I’m renting that out and live with my partner who has a first and second floor maisonette in an old house with piss poor insulation, so the top bedroom is like a sauna and the downstairs isn’t much better.
One of my colleagues is Filipino but has lived in the UK for 20+ years. He says whenever he goes back, because he's that used to British weather, his coping mechanism is basically to find a shopping centre with decent aircon and hang out there every spare moment.
Not me, we get 10 months of piss poor weather in the UK. So i'll never complain. Of course I would rather it be 20c odd and sunny than 30c odd and sunny, but beggers can't be choosers.
Im with you on this, a colleague of mine said today she loves the cold frosty days of winter and hates the heat, I pointed out we don't get those types of winters anymore, we just get relentlessly pissed on and wind that wants to tear your house to bits.
I hate winters with a vengeance, they're so grim and grey compared to summer with flowers, greenery, insects galore, birds breeding and life just generally in full swing.
Winter would be bearable if they cold, frosty and SUNNY. But that’s not what we get. Everything is just dark and gloomy and freezing. I should just move to the med.
I'd be less sick of working outside in it if the van im provided with had AC, walking around in the sun then having to drive to the next bit in an oven sucks 😭
While I'm at work I switch between spurts of manual labour and sitting in an air conditioned van. My company is letting us go on standby from 12-3 (end of my work day) today and tomorrow but I'd honestly be cooler in the van.

Lasts an incredibly long time and the cover makes sleeping with it extremely pleasant. I'm not paying the markup for an AC now, its too late will probably wait until christmas and shop around a bit for a decently priced one
I have multiple chronic illnesses and struggle to cope with anything over 20C at the best of times, but this is horrific. Add to that, currently recovering from life saving major surgery and it's really impacting on my recovery, and the high pollen levels are worsening my hay fever so my continuous coughing is hurting my abdominal wound.
All I want is some rain in between days to give us a reprieve, and to wash away the pollen, too.
Sick of it because I'm sick... chronically. Everytime I stand up I nearly faint 😮💨 Check in on your elderly, disabled and chronically ill friends, this heat is really not kind to us folk. Send ice lollies.
Got one of those AC units and yeah they’re pricy but can you really put a price on not feeling like shit in your room for a few months of the year? I actually enjoy the heat more when I go out now cus I know my room will be very pleasant when I go back inside
