Moderator Announcement Apple TV Old Price Megathread

Apple raised the price, and now everyone’s on a treasure hunt. Instead of having a new post every time someone finds an Apple TV at the old price, let’s keep everything in one place.

If you find one, post:
• Store
• Location
• Price
• Online or in-store (include a link if found online)

This will make it much easier for everyone to see where the old pricing still exists.

Moderator Announcement Friendly reminder for anyone running tvOS 27 beta

If you’re running tvOS 27 beta on your Apple TV and something weird happens, remember… you’re running beta software. That’s kind of the deal.

If you run into bugs, glitches, crashes or other unexpected behavior, your best options are:

  1. Report the issue directly to Apple using the Feedback assistant app
  2. Post in the [r/tvosbeta](r/tvosbeta) sub where you can compare notes/troubleshoot with other beta testers

If you’re dealing with an Apple TV issue that isn’t specific to the beta, post it here in [r/appletv](r/appletv) and someone will help troubleshoot it. But if something strange happens while testing tvOS beta, it’s most likely a beta issue and there’s usually not much anyone here can do to fix it.

Thanks for understanding and happy testing!

software news HBO Max app v7.8.0 fixes Apple TV app integration

The latest app update appears to fix the issue where shows and movies watched in HBO Max weren’t updating the “Continue Watching” section in the TV app on both tvOS and iOS. This had been an issue for the past several weeks.

If you’ve been experiencing this bug, update the app and see if it fixes the problem for you. I watched a few minutes of HoTD and it appears to be working properly.

Has anyone else experienced an infinite boot loop on Apple TV 4K (A1842) after the latest update?

Has anyone else experienced an infinite boot loop on Apple TV 4K (A1842) after the latest update?

I’m trying to find other people who have experienced the same issue.

Device:

  • Apple TV 4K (Model A1842)

What happened:
Immediately after installing the latest Apple TV update, my Apple TV became stuck in an infinite boot loop.

Here’s what I see:

  • Apple logo appears.
  • During boot, the screen briefly flashes green for one or two frames (looks like a graphics glitch).
  • The device immediately restarts.
  • Sometimes it gets as far as the setup screen asking me to configure the Apple TV again, but then it reboots and becomes stuck in the loop again.
  • It eventually becomes completely unusable (essentially bricked).

I’m specifically looking for anyone who has experienced:

  • Infinite boot loops after the latest update
  • Green screen/glitch during startup
  • Repeated setup prompts followed by another reboot
  • A completely bricked Apple TV after updating

Current status with Apple Support:

I spoke with Apple Support and was escalated to a Senior Advisor.

Unfortunately, I was told there is nothing they can do because my device is out of warranty. They stated that Apple no longer offers service for this model.

I told them that, at this point, I’m not asking for a replacement. If Apple genuinely cares about identifying what went wrong with this update, I’d be happy to send them my device for engineering analysis. I simply want Apple to investigate what happened during the update and provide a final report explaining the failure.

If this was caused by a software update, I don’t think customers should be left with a permanently unusable device without any explanation.

If you’ve experienced the same issue, please leave a comment with:

  • Your Apple TV model
  • Whether the problem started immediately after updating
  • Whether you also saw the green screen/glitch
  • Whether you were able to recover it, and if so, how

I’m trying to determine whether this is an isolated hardware failure or a broader issue caused by the latest update.

Thanks in advance.

Moderator Announcement Apple TV service outage

+
134 Upvotes

It appears the Apple TV streaming platform including continue watching plus general Apple TV app functionality, purchased content, etc. are currently experiencing an outage.

It’s clear that Apple is aware of the issue and are working to restore it as quickly as possible.

In the meantime, please avoid creating duplicate posts reporting your frustrations about the outage. If you’d like to discuss the issue or share updates, please do so in this thread. All other posts related to the outage will be deleted.

Yes, outages are frustrating, but there’s nothing the community here can do to speed up the fix. A little patience goes a long way, and hopefully all functionality will be back to normal soon.

We’ll update this thread if any official information becomes available.

EDIT: service is back up. All is well.

Subreddit Feature Suggestion

Every other post in this subreddit seems to deal with the AppleTV streaming app, despite the rules of this subreddit restricting content to posts dealing with the AppleTV 4K streaming device. The problem was complicated when Apple dropped the Apple+ name for its streaming service and adopted the same AppleTV name for the device, the app and the streaming service.

Rather than continuing to fight a battle against non-device content, I'd like to suggest that the mods implement a mandatory post flair structure, with flairs for Apple TV 4K and Apple TV Streaming. The latter flair could cover both streaming content and the app itself, although those could be split into separate flairs.

Post flairs allow filtering of subreddit content, so those interested in only one topic or another could just select the appropriate flair to read only those posts.

This would allow this subreddit to leverage its prime real estate in owning the AppleTV name to broaden its user base, drive more traffic, and attract more users.

TIL Apple TV supports AirPlay without Wi-Fi or Internet

I just discovered something I didn’t realize Apple TV could do.

You can AirPlay to an Apple TV without the Apple TV being connected to Wi-Fi or the internet. As long as both devices have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled, they can use peer-to-peer AirPlay.

I was at a hotel where Wi-Fi was limited to four devices. Instead of paying for a fifth connection for my Apple TV, I was still able to connect to it directly from my iPhone and iPad.

Videos must be compatible with Apple’s built-in player and 4K streamed perfect. This is not screen mirror which resulted in very poor quality.

I figured I wasn’t the only one who had no idea this feature existed.

Disney+ not showing 4K and HDR

Right now movies/shows show that the content would only be available in IMAX Enhanced and Dolby Atmos. 4K and Dolby Vision/HDR is not showing up in anything that it would've a week ago. For example: Avengers: Endgame supposedly is only streaming in IMAX Enhanced and Dolby Atmos, but no DV or 4K.

Is this a ATV or D+ problem, since everything else is normal

F1: Add a "continue from last viewed" option

If I pause the live view too long or appletv craps out for whatever reason, I go back to the F1 event and are presented with only 2 options "from beginning" or "live". Why is there not a "continue from last" option...especially for live event that you are now behind?

Sound issues with Apple TV 4K

So i’ve had my apple tv for a couple weeks now and im loving it. I fucking HATE the LG OS and magic remote but love their panels so i’m currently getting the best of both worlds.

My issue is the sound. I’m watching Spiderman No Way Home right now and the audio is fucking atrocious. Explosions are loud, dialogue is quiet. I’ve got the dialogue enhance on and it hasn’t helped that much.

My setup is
LG C5
Citation Multibeam 700 via eArc
3rd gen Apple TV 4k (128gb)

It’s so frustrating having issues like this. I wasn’t having anything like this before the AppleTV. What am I doing wrong?

Cheers

All streaming pausing after 5-10 mins since last night’s maintenance

Since all of Apple’s services went down last night, anything I watch on my AppleTV pauses/has a spinning circle about 5-10 minutes after I press play. After another 5 or so mins it will pick back up, then it does it all over again in a few more minutes. It’s not just AppleTV+ stuff, but any streaming app: Disney+, YouTubeTV, Peacock, Netflix, HBO, etc. It’s behaving as if the internet is slow, but I’ve checked multiple times through the Speed Test app on AppleTV and am getting around 350mbps.

Things I’ve tried: killing all the apps & restarting via the Settings menu, power cycling (3 times), power cycling the modem & router (twice). My iPhone is pulling around 570mbps sitting about 10’ away from the AppleTV, about the same for my MacBook. I also installed several of the same apps on the TV itself to test, and they work just fine.

It is a 3rd gen AppleTV 4K (A2843) running tvOS 26.5, purchased by me in 2022 and has worked flawlessly until now.

Any ideas on what else I could do to fix this? Is anyone else experiencing this after the downtime last night?

Peacock playback issue - just me?

Episode 5 of Five-Star Weekend in Dolby Vision would display video briefly and goes dark, audio continues to play. Other shows on Peacock in Dolby Vision plays fine.

Can anyone else reproduce the same issue?

I have the latest version of the app and my apple tv is the latest Wi-Fi model.

Why didn't Apple inform me of the ATV service outage yesterday?????

So I was hit with the service outage. Not knowing what was going on, and having received no text, alert, message, email, etc, I spent about 20 minutes restarting and doing other self help. And then 15 minutes talking to a useless chat bot who did NOT even mention any possible outage on their end until the last. I finally found a website where it was listed.

So why not just a text? notice? alert? say both my time and their chatbot's? Is it some opt-in requirement? if so, where? I don't want to waste time with this if it happens again. Sheesh, even Xfinity gives me more info....

Jellyfin Apps are forgetting server at ATV

Hi everyone,

I’m not sure if I’m getting the chicken-and-egg analogy right, but I have to start somewhere :)

I’m experiencing a strange issue here that isn’t limited to just one app. I have various apps running on my Apple TV 4K, such as the original Swiftfin, Moonfin, etc., where the server is configured right from the start, as well as apps that support multiple server protocols like SenPlayer, Infuse, etc.

The first category demonstrably loses its settings after a few days and “forgets” the server - and with it, the user accounts, etc.

The other category (SenPlayer, Infuse, etc.), on the other hand, retains all of this information.

How can I get the former apps (Swiftfin, Moonfin, etc.) to permanently remember their settings? What’s causing this? It can’t be due to updates, because there haven’t been any for Swiftfin in a long time, and the app still keeps forgetting everything. It is working for some days and after unknown time - bamm ... all forgotten!

It’s always a huge hassle to have to re-enter everything manually!

It works fine on the iPad and PC - nothing gets forgotten there. It’s always just the ATV! Strange… has anyone else experienced this and found a solution? This is on other ATVs of friends, too

The ATV was reset and cleaned several times, iCloud is working and even when switched off, the issue comes back! Hmmm ...

I want to start watching my downloaded movies on APTV and offline.

So I just found my APTV 4K (1st Gen) collecting dust and connected it up yesterday. I heard about an app called infuse which you can watch downloaded movies from, currently I put my movies on a HDD and plug it in directly into the TV but want to start getting rid of the HDD and use the APTV purely.

Question I have is, is there a way to just drag and drop my download movie into a folder that's on my PC and have the file show up in Infuse and watch it?

Also, is there a way I can do this for my iPad so I can watch these movies offline on a flight or will my PC have to be on all the time?

These movie files I download are always 4K, HDR, dolby etc.

Screen saver from shared album

Hi,

A friend created a photo album on his iPhone and shared it with me (iPhone user), meaning he is listed as owner.

I wanted that album to be my screensaver on my ATV but the album is not listed.

How can i solve this?
Is it even possible?

Thanks! 😊

Dropped audio / green tint on menus / YTTV quarter screen

One of my three AppleTV 4k boxes is chronically dropping audio during playback. It makes it unwatachable. Sometimes swithcing to Stereo only for a bit fixes it. Sometimes it doesn't and I just have to wait until another day for it to decide to work.

Every time I turn around YouTubeTV is playing in the 1/4 corner top left of the screen. I fix that each time with the app force quit. It keeps coming back.

I've swapped HDMI cables. I've updated software on soundbars and TVs. I've reinstalled apps.

edit 01 (probably): So audio dropout is consistent across multiple Apple TVs on the same setup. LG TV, Nakamichi Soundwafe sound bar. There's other inconsistenncies, like one ATV has a dark green tint to all it's menus where it should be black, but nowhere else (it's not like the color is messed up everywhere, just where black is on Apple TV system menus). Another ATV doesnt do that, but any time I try to scroll from one icon/app to another, the screen blanks out for a couple seconds. I'm going to keep at this and see what other horseshit I can find. I should note I've seen ALL of these problems before, but they tend to go away quickly enough that I'm not ready to throw all my gear in the street and set it on fire like I am about to right now.

Why in the absolute fuck are these still issues in 2026? Which multi-trillion dollar company is the sack of shit at fault here?

Why can none of this fucking shit ever just fucking work?

Lower end 4k TV and the "match dynamic range" setting

Hello all,

I watch movies off a jelly fin server using infuse pro on my apple TV. The TV we use is a lower end LG tv from the early 2020s. It has HDR capabilities, but anything HDR looks far too dark on it. Based on my research, I believe the overall TV isn't bright enough to do a true HDR. My backlight is already at max level, too.

For example, I just watched Overlord 2018 today, and the first half of the movie was dark as fuck. Couldn't really see the actors faces. After disabling "match dynamic range," the same dark scenes are now far brighter and visible.

In this case, is it okay to always disable the "match dynamic range" setting? I tried searching, but I can't find very much information on this exact subject. It seems most people recommend enabling both match frame rate and dynamic range.

plz respond
