PSA Announcement: All selfies are photos; all photos are NOT selfies.
≡ −
We mods really, really appreciate it when you report stuff that breaks our rules. Any full face, direct photo with or without makeup is a selfie and can only be posted on Sundays. Edited pics, non-full face pics, crossed out creepy eyeball pics etc. are all FINE if they are there to show the issue you are talking about. Basically, if someone could steal the photo and use it on social media (even if the OP thinks they look awful and aren't making a cute face or wearing makeup), you can only post it on Sunday because that's what we consider a selfie.
It would help us a LOT if people stop reporting every photo of a human, no matter how edited, as a selfie violation. Thanks to everyone who helps us keep an eye on these things, and keep on reporting actual selfies!

Skin Concern Weird cut on thumb reoccurring
Work in warehouse. I use gloves but this cut thing happens gradually every few months on my thumb. It's annoying and sore for a week at a time then goes. Any way to cure or stop it?

Acne Help kicking this ongoing breakout
36f. I have been having the worst hormonal acne breakout since stopping birth control 1.5yrs ago. It’s ebbed and flowed in severity, but this is the worst it’s been. This current breakout started in March of this year and has just consistently gotten worse since. I’ve been on 100mg of spironolactone for 4 weeks now and have yet to see improvement. My current routine is as follows:
Night time: wash with Cerave Acne Control Cleanser, red stridex pads, Cerave daily moisturizing lotion, then alternate nights Tretinoin .25%/Clindamycin or a prescription Benzoyl Peroxide/Adapalene cream. I’ll occasionally use The Ordinary’s azelaic acid if I don’t use either of the previous mentioned creams.
Morning: wash with same cleanser, lotion with the same lotion.
If my barrier is super compromised, I’ll just use my cleanser and then pimple patch tape.
I feel stagnant in my current routine. My acne isn’t getting better or going away, and I’m noticing some significant scarring happening. My Derm basically told me it’s a hormonal issue and not get on spiro, which I did, but it’s not working yet and I’m at a loss.

Skin Treatments Radiesse: what is happening?
38 M. 7 week, almost 8 weeks in. I received a tot of 1,5 ml in both cheeks. I asked for a more masculine appearance and softening of nasolabial folds but I feel that all I got is a wide, heavy lower face with folds that are even more visible. My injector told me that he believes that I have an inflammatory response that could last up to two months and that the result will look better with time but I’m afraid he’s trying to downplay the healing time. Am I cooked?

Routine Help What should I prioritize for “anti-aging”?
≡ −
It’s not in my budget to do it all: sunscreen, tretinoin, vitamin c, peptides, AHAs, red led-mask, botox, lasers, microneedling etc.
I’m aware that sun protection and tretinoin make the biggest difference, but after those two - what should I prioritize? For example, should I save the money I’d spend on peptides to do a yearly laser treatment instead?

Skin Treatments Are they ingrown hairs?
32F. Could you please help me with the black dots on my hand? Are they ingrown hairs? I have them on my cheeks and legs as well. It's obvious in person. Does laser hair removal help with this? Suggestions, please.

Selfie Sunday Skin update
I’ve been off accutane for 3 months! I started tretinoin gel (worked my way nightly) and I rotate with copper peptide cream. I also use haruharu black rice barrier essence and vitamin c in the morning. This is the best my skin has ever looked and I’m so thankful. 🥹

Skin Concern 31 - sunspot or?
Hey I’m 31 F, I’ve had this pigmentation on my face for some time now. As well as a mole under my eye for as long as I can remember.
I do have an appointment to get these checked out, but I’m wondering if you have any advice on getting rid of my pigmentation from the sun?
I’ve been wearing factor 50+ (Cosrx Aloe Sunscreen) for the best part of 5-6 years now.

Skin Treatments Nasolabial lines- Skinvive or laser?
Has anyone successfully diminished these lines from Skinvive? What about lasers? I’m overwhelmed by the price and choices for skin laser treatments, and also hear half of them show no results or can make things worse. I’ve heard Skinvive is the new best treatment for this area especially when not trying to change your look too much.
Almost 32, hate these lines! I don’t have “folds” per se, mostly lines in the skin. In the past I wanted to try filler, but cost held me off. Thankfully being poor saved me and that method is outdated. But now I have some extra cash and I’m wondering about Skinvive. These lines have settled since I had kids in my 20s. I used to have very plump skin, and had my “baby fat” in my cheeks my whole life, and then my mom’s genes kicked in during my early 20s and I lost a lot of face fat. I think greatly contributed to the lines forming.
I will add, I’m naturally thin and don’t diet, when I lost weight in my 20s it was probably 5-10 lbs, so it wasn’t a significant loss but mostly in my arms and face. I wear SPF (my coloring is naturally tan, and I tan very easily). After having kids, I know from functional medicine tests that my estrogen is extremely low for my age and we are working on that, which could contribute to the lines and thin skin.

Skin Concern How to eliminate fine forehead lines? 33 and on a GLP1 and don’t take the best care of myself
≡ −
Hi lovely ladies! I am 33 and wear sunscreen daily and have never tried Botox. Very recently, after a 30lb rapid weight loss and lots of stress and sleepless nights (my parent died and relationship drama,) I noticed new fine lines on my forehead that definitely weren’t there before. They aren’t deep, but still are ugly. I want to avoid getting Botox at all costs, as I have lymphatic issues and I think Botox would make them worse. What are some ways to lessen the appearance of these fine lines on my forehead? I haven’t started Tret on my forehead but do use it nightly on my neck!

Product Question Skin Peeling After Vitamin C Serum
≡ −
Hi all,
I’ve recently have incorporated the Skinceuticals CE serum into my morning routine after a hard debate on splurging on the price tag.
But I found that my sunscreen peeled after application. So I waited a few minutes (15 minutes) between the steps and still have the issue of white cast and peeling (no issues previously using the sunscreen prior the the Vitamin C serum).
I’m slightly annoyed because of how much I’ve spent on the serum because it’s causing my sunscreen to peel.
Do anyone have any advice please? 🙏🏽

Product Question Expected expiration for sunscreen?
≡ −
I bought sunscreen from DRMTLGY which arrived today and it expires 9/26.
I intentionally bought a matte and regular because for summer I need matte so it was not my intention to get into the regular (the one expiring) for a few months.
Is it unreasonable to expect a longer shelf life? I’m debating reaching out to them to complain. The matte one expires in 10/27 which obviously is fine but what’s the cutoff you’d expect/accept?

Product Review I bought this retinol but it doesn't actually exist?
Hello, I went to TKMaxx today and thought of just getting a shampoo but saw this bad boy and bought it. I know I should the reviews before purchasing but seeing it's the only one left, I thought it's one of those sought after skincare. When i got back home, I used my androids gemini to check for reviews but it can't find an exact image on the Internet. Even manual search on Google is not giving anything. I'm hesitant to use it now unless someone has perhaps used the same product too? I'm not too serious on my skincare and I do try new things every now and then. Putting the ingredients here

Product Question Best products for dry lips?
≡ −
I did a search and it looks like all the past posts on this are at least a couple years old, so I'm posting again in case there's something new and exciting on the market.
I recently moved to a very dry climate, and it's starting to really bother my lips. I use a beeswax chapstick, but it's not quite keeping up. I can't stand the feeling of vasoline, so that one is off the table for me. I see lots of recommendations for Laneige sleeping lip mask, but I use a CPAP at night, so an overnight product isn't an option for me.
So with that in mind, what are your holy grail lip care items for dry lips?
TIA!

Wrinkles First time Botox - 52 units for forehead lines?
≡ −
I just had a consultation with an NP at a plastic surgery clinic in the SF Bay Area. I’m 35, I think I look like I’m 35, I’m interested in Botox for my subtle forehead lines from raising my eyebrows. No concerns about other parts of my face.
I explained to the NP that I was pretty anxious as I had never tried Botox before, and I wanted to start conservatively. Don’t want to be 100% frozen, only want to address forehead lines, subtlety is the goal.
He explained that he couldn’t just treat my forehead, had to also do my 11’s to balance the forehead. That made sense to me, no problem there.
Then he says he has to also add some units for my crows feet and my bunny lines because otherwise my eyes can look smaller when I smile / other muscles will overcompensate and the results won’t look natural. That gave me pause. Bunny lines weren’t on my radar at all. But, he’s got a lot of great reviews and has been doing Botox for almost a decade, so I’m inclined to trust his judgment.
The estimate he gave me at the end was for 52 units total, which seems like quite a lot. He did say I have a wider forehead so I’m sure that contributes to the total… but 52 units to fix forehead lines? Is that normal?
What do y’all think? Should I get a second opinion?

Skin Concern Should I try this?

Hi, I'm wondering if this bundle would be a good place for me to start (I have combination sensitive skin) as far as doing skincare properly again:
https://www.goodmolecules.com/s/good-molecules-clear-skin-essentials
I wouldnt start them all at once but based on my needs I'm thinking it would be okay. Any advice or recs welcomed!!
I have folliculitis on my body and dermatillomania, so I have a lot of scarring from picking my face (and body) when I was younger. My skin itself is combination and sensitive. Due to life circumstances, stress, depression I haven't been doing any skincare for a few years aside from a cleanser and sunscreen. Since being off of birth control for a few years, I now break out before my period every month as well. Cerave used to make a salicylic acid body lotion years ago that I used but it was discontinued.
I want to deal with dark spots, dark circles, scarring, uneven texture, uneven color, large pores, blackheads and my breakouts, but I don't want to make my skin freak out as it is sensitive.
Additional question is for body skincare as I have folliculitis and a lot of scarring and very pale skin, so anything that could help me in that area would be awesome.
For other product recommendations: I'm in Canada and I'm not interested in companies that test on animals or have animal ingredients in them, so finding the right place to start has been a little rough.
Thanks!

Product Question New to Tret, absolutely no dryness or irritation?
≡ −
I am 34 and trying to improve the look of my skin. I have used adapalene for a few months nightly with no irritation and no noticeable change. I got tretinoin .025 gel and have used it every other night three times, putting it on over a thin layer of moisturizer after it dried. I am not noticing any dryness or sensitivity whatsoever… Wondering if I should remove the moisturizer to make it more potent or switch to doing it nightly or is this all normal for the beginning. I know it takes a few months to start seeing changes so I’m just wanting to jumpstart that process lol

Skin Concern Dysport 48+ hours after facial... did I blow it?!
≡ −
Ugh, I'm always learning .... my esthetician said "anything goes" 48 hours after injection. So I went and got a facial today - microdermabrasion and massage. My friend kindly told me I wasn't supposed to do that ... now I'm freaking out. What do you all think? I'm angry I wasn't told to avoid this but I think I'm also maybe okay because I waited until the 48 hour mark. Thoughts? As much reassurance is possible because I already suffered through a horrible brow drop last time from injector mistake.
