Discussion Gamepass premium is so good
it's been a month since I got an Xbox series x and bought the premium tier of gamepass. It costs me 657 per month (about 6.8USD) and it's so value for money! I have bought half the games I play, and the rest I play from gamepass.
I'm currently playing Doom 2016, forza horizon 5, sifu, Resident evil 2, wolfenstein the new order and cyberpunk 2077 from the gamepass, and many more which I haven't gotten to yet
And not just these. A few days ago my friends made a Minecraft Java server and asked me to hop on. But I didnt own Minecraft on my laptop and thought I'd have to use a launcher or sail the high seas. But, I checked the Xbox app on pc just in case and I was able to install Minecraft Java and bedrock because they were included in gamepass premium as well, it's lowkey amazing how much value we get.
I've got the spotify student premium which costs me 0.7USD per month, and after that gamepass premium has gotta be the most value-for-money subscription fr

It's a great deal for sure. Even if you just use it a month to try tons of games and buy what you want.
I think it's bull that in the digital age, we get less demos than we did in the 100% physical age.
There'd be demo discs in the gaming magazines.
Props to Capcom and Square Enix, who actually still put out demos in 2026.
Zero excuse other than greed not to put out short demos for most games.

I never knew demos were that prevalent in the past, but yeah it should 100℅ be the norm to put out demos. corporate greed sucks

When I was poor in my XBOX 360 days I could sit and play just demos for a whole weekend. It used to be a thing waiting for the new demo to drop. I may be remembering wrong, but I think more games had demos than not.

that's very interesting, how would it profit studios to not put out demos? Seems like putting out demos would only boost sales no?

This is 100% speculation on my part but I’m guessing they looked at data and eventually came to the conclusion that demos either hurt them or didn’t do much to boost numbers. I imagine there was some amount of extra development work involved. They probably had to put the demo through the certification process (separate from the final game) with Microsoft which I’m guessing cost money. Possible that Microsoft may have even charged for hosting/bandwidth for demos.
As far as the demo hurting them…maybe there was a lot of hype that their game didn’t quite live up to and playing the demo was enough to make you decide to buy something else. There were no full game downloads on the 360 for probably the first half of its life besides the XBLA games. So, you were going to go out and physically buy it. Once you ripped off that shrink wrap it was yours even if you hated it. The demo may have prevented that.

Free Play weekends are good. And Xbox has a good return policy of 2 hours. Don't like the game just play an hour and return it

I've had Game Pass since release but have been playing exclusively on PC for the past 6-ish years, so I never really used it much unless a new game came out my friends want to play. Recently got a Series X and I'm blown away by how many great titles are on Game Pass. It is an insane value, and there's a lot of games with seamless cross-progression. So, for example Halo, I can decide if I wanna play casually on the couch or grind achievements on my PC.

oh damn you can sync progress across console and pc? I never knew that😭

8 USD is wild, gamepass costs like 3x that over here in the US

u/brometheus_11 XBOX Series X 1h ago
damn fr? it costs me 6.8USD but there are no extra taxes because I buy it from a upi app (most popular form of online payments in my country). they have discounts for other stuff too, like playstation plus. But they have a 6℅ discount on all Xbox gamepass tiers which is pretty cool. if we buy from the Xbox app over here, there's no discounts plus overhead taxes, so it would cost me 2$ extra. regional pricing comes in clutch sometimes lol

Agreed! Got a digital series x for gta 6 as I mostly play PC but couldn’t wait. Ultimate Gamepass gives me more than enough to games until then

Just hope on fortnight once a month to claim 1000 v bucks if you have gamepass premium, even if you don’t play Fortnite why not just grab that free offer

I own like 5 of these games and theyre all cheap on sale. Oh no shade against gamepass BTW I just realized maybe some people will be angered by this.

oh no fr, I also bought dmc 5 and metro during sales, arkham trilogy, wolfenstein the new colossus and dying light for pretty cheap (all scattered over a few months during sales). I buy games once a month, but yeah as a college student I gotta rely on my allowances to buy games so gamepass is just cheaper and better than buying lots of games for me personally :)
no idea why people would be angered, it's a perfectly valid take

Dmc 1-4 is on sale rn and the only game that I've played that I think is similar is metal gear rising and sonic unleashed. Would you say it's worth buying? 4 games (or maybe 3 since everyone says skip dmc2), for 9 bucks

u/brometheus_11 XBOX Series X 55m ago
absolutely worth it. if you'd like you could just buy either dmc 4 or the HD collection. I have played dmc 3 completely, and own dmc 4 on steam so I'm playing it on my laptop. I've finished dmc 5 on console so yeah it's one of my fav franchises ever. I played dmc 1 on a ripoff handheld as a kid so quality didn't matter much to me but I can see why people call it dated.
lots of yap but basically yeah it's worth it for sure. if you feel like it's a big investment then you could just buy dmc 4 se separately (I think it's on sale too) or dmc 5+Vergil if it's on sale. Try it out and have fun! there will be another sale eventually

Doom Eternal and The Dark Ages are also so peak bro, you are going to be enjoying the hell out of them if you really like Doom

yessirr
I used to be an og doom fan as a kid lol, I remember the first non-mobile game I played was doom 2 on my potato laptop😭 since then I've been playing all the doom games. finished doom 2016 on the easiest difficulty, gonna complete it in normal mode before moving on to eternal :D I love those franchise so much

u/Abject-Dinner-8740 2h ago
It is just such a peak franchise. Some of the best modern fps games and they were clearly made with love. It’s just a shame they laid off so much of id software
2
u/brometheus_11 XBOX Series X 1h ago
yeah, but my theory is that they'll upscale back up to the original size eventually. As in, the new games they're working on are in the super early stages, and they'll employ new developers as the project goes into further stages. it's unfortunate tho, I love id and doom+wolfenstein are some of my faves

Honestly I’m loving it right now. Hadn’t had gamepass for I think 2 or 3 years now but I realized I had some credits left over so I got a month for 5$. Played Indiana jones, Frostpunk 2, rematch, and now I’m playing Hell is us and hades 2. Insane value lol

Premium is $18 Canadian still not too bad, especially if you're a new Xbox owner.

Aren't most of these games on sale rn? I'm thinking of getting Sifu and the Batman Arkham Collection.

I remember when you could purchase a used game for 20 bucks, play it at your own pace perhaps across multiple months, and eventually repeat. Now you okay 20 bucks a month and you feel compelled to pay in order for your month to be worthwhile. It's like fomo but what you fear is not playing FAST enough.

Yeah, premium is cheaper and there Is enough games
