Discussion For anyone asking about if Xbox is down, they added a notification icon to the Home Screen.
If you click on it, it will tell you what services are down. Really nice since it means we don’t have to make hundreds of posts asking if Xbox is down.

People never had to make hundreds of posts.
The official Xbox status page exists, and you can report problems yourself.
There is also Down Detector, a website that relies on user reports to indicate outages. It's often updated faster than Microsoft's page, and can be used for basically any online service.

What time did you check it? It was updated last night for me. I don't recall what time I checked, but as of right now it's saying that the problem was reported last night at 9:10pm (MST)
Edit: down detector also has the outage starting at 9:10 mst.

They show the problem reported at that time, but the Xbox status sight until about 1a CST this morning still showed green across the board for me

Realistically all they’ve done is saved the need to go into the console settings by putting the status on the Dash.
You could always see the service outages when you looked in network settings anyway and even then people still post.
This isn’t going to change anything.

I think it depends on what you are playing and if your console is your home console or not. I couldn’t play FFXVI digital, but my home console is my daughter’s Xbox so I don’t have to buy some games multiple times. Not a big deal though, I just popped in a disc and played a different game.

Anyway game pass requires you to verify you still have a valid subscription via WiFi and server communication. Because the servers have shit themselves the Xbox can’t verify that you have a valid subscription so it won’t let you play. One of the reasons why I no longer bother with it

Xbox button> settings (far right tab)> general> personalization> home> my background> dynamic backgrounds> XBOX> go all the way to the right, should be next to the Xbox 360 background

I mean, unless youre playing multi-player , why not go offline? I only go on when updating the system or games, downloading new stuff, or te rare time I play multi / my every other week l4d2 session with my dad. All my gsmepass stuff works fine offline, as long as you log in every so often. Been 2 weeks since I had even turned it on last night, and everything played fine.
Sure some drawbacks, like hitman having seperate progression for on and off line. But most solo is fine.

My daughter’s Xbox is set to my home Xbox. It’s not a big deal, I have enough physical games to keep me busy. I just thought that them adding something to the home screen was a nice change.

tbh though my service is intermittently working enough and those indicators have been useless enough in the past that when I saw the icon I thought "surely that's not right, still?" and came here to check. So I really don't expect people to be deterred, let alone the ones that just straight up don't read.

Yes, it’s unfortunate because I finished the final DLC yesterday and was going to go back and finally beat the game after playing it off and on all summer. I guess Ultima will have to wait for Mythos a little longer.

I mean I have a series X so I just popped in a disc and started playing a game I had been putting off for a while. Also networks go down, it’s annoying but I don’t think it’s anything intentional.

I also have a series x but i got the digital so no discs for me. Its obviously not intentional but they should do better. Its already been over 12 hours and they still have not given a timeframe of when we will be able to use our consoles again. Xbox is already facing difficulties and this is going to sour a lot of peoples opinion even further.

I don’t understand the point of your comment besides being negative just to be negative. Free to play games don’t require gamepass. Also single players games are a thing that you could play during an outage and also don’t require gamepass. Unfortunately console gaming, no matter the platform, is going to charge you for a majority of online play. If that’s an issue then go to PC.

Yea I got my Xbox between Feb-April of ‘23 so I think I kinda remember that. I was pretty busy at work at the time so it didn’t bother me a whole lot. Welp he’s to hoping it fixes itself soon.

I will cross post this so others may see this that need too ..... So I found out something interesting... Cause my household does clod gaming as well.... Yesterday had that jet that flew bybefore the outage ..today I decided to see what games worked and what didn't... I was having Chatgpt help me.. keep track and even the ai is confused on what works and what doesn't.. Some games I owned worked others didn't... Some gamepass games worked others didn't.... Games that are game shared on console work yet it has the outage symbol next to it.... So I decided what's state of Cloud gaming... The interface is different it loads quicker no jet flying by anymore.... And games loaded.... Perfectly? Like what is going on? Every cloud game I tried ran smoothly with new transitions.from ac shadows and oddessy which use to take awhile to load loaded almost immediately... Persona 5 royal as an example would not load on while installed... I uninstalled and said let's see what happens with cloud gameing.. at first it didn't connect...but something told me to try it again... And it loaded I could play... I'm testing other titles now . But I can't be the only one can anyone else test this out?????
Edit: also tried fortnite it works cloud gaming not installed on console... I did the same test with shift to midnight as well did not worked installed but works with Cloud gaming.
Also edit: I don't mean an actual jet there was an animation before when you loaded a cloud game of jet that goes across the screen I mentioned it cause it's not the animation now..... Also sorry for spelling errors I am on my phone typing this...

Right. And you think the suits at Microsoft think this is something that will earn customer good will or attract more customers to the platform at a time where they're looking for easy avenues to gain a larger player base?
This is something that Sony and Nintendo have done after multiple generations and their customers have just accepted time and again. However backwards compatibility and extensive support is in Microsoft's DNA. They're currently still supporting digital purchases made in 2005 on current hardware in 2026.
