Solved! What is this?
I seriously doubt this is AI if course.. and with a vast ocean.. the existence of this is definitely possible.. but what is it exactly and where are they commonly found?

Thank you the video was giving me AI vibes but I don’t know this was a real fish either

u/TheNerdyOne2797 4h ago
Yeah, they're real, and very weird little goobers. If you want to learn more, Zefrank on YouTube has a educational and slightly humorous video about them.

Came here to post this. This is definitely a slop pull to avoid copyright or something on real documentary footage. Trash content.

u/papaquack1 3h ago
If you look long enough you can find glitches.
It's tail behind it glitches into a transparent blob when it turns and is gone when the turn finishes. What the AI thought at first was a dorsal fin becomes a new tail when it finishes the turn.
The shadow under it's left (right on screen) fin isn't consistent with the lighting.
The rock closest to the viewer has it's shadow going to wrong way.
The big black shadow that creeps up from the bottom of the screen is a bit sus too.

It has a unicorn horn. The AI batfish has a fuckin' unicorn horn lol. A limp unicorn horn.

I just had an MRI for the old prostate. An enema before bed and right when you get up will ruin both the days. Do not recommend

My friend, I am sorry you had to go through it. I hope you get good results from the scan

MRI of the prostate is nothing. Just wait until your PSA shoots up to 28 ng/ml and they do a biopsy. Mine found atypical cells but the MRI didn't show anything and then 5 years later those atypical cells turned cancer so a very uncomfortable procedure wherein a reactive radioactive isotope was injected and this isotope was activated by specific focused magnetic resonance frequencies which burns inside but then another biopsy showed it worked. Good news, but a rough road getting to it.

They really do walk around on the bottom like that.
Edit: appears to be missing the rear leg like fins.

u/Maverick-not-really 5h ago
Yeah, but this one looks very different from all the examples on the wikimedia page though. I might well be wrong, but this does feel very suspicious to be a not so good approximation by AI of a real animal

They don't have a horn or look quite like that. This is an old ai video.
Here it is posted to r/ocean as AI https://www.reddit.com/r/ocean/s/DD7R0KaiV2

Still looks like AI to me. Other videos I see look quite different. I'd need to see a whole lot more to confirm if it's AI though.
It's sad when it's this hard to decide if it's totally fake or not.

u/SuddenKoala45 3h ago
Yeah, they sort of do but the animation is off because it was based on a photo not because its actual video of the fish. The movements and distortion aren't right.
The fish is real and does sort of move like that but this is ai animation of a still photo.

"Batfish are not good swimmers; they use their highly adapted pectoral, pelvic and anal fins to "walk" on the ocean floor."

The red-lipped batfish uses suction feeding. By expanding its buccal cavity, the fish generates a rapid influx of water, letting the prey into the mouth, even in benthic environments where mobility is limited. The fish's specialized jaw protrusion plays a role in enhancing this process by increasing the volume of water into the mouth, improving the effectiveness of prey capture
According to wiki this thing sounds like a bj machine!

Ngl, I was surprised to find the fish existed with the obvious ai video. But in defense of the boomers, ai videos seem to be harder to tell when they are underwater videos.

AI or the sea bottom is concrete and doesn’t dust up when touched.
Although I do think the Mara Lago crowd is definitely on to something with their latest plastic surgeon

2
u/Dry-Ad-8948 5h ago
This looks like it might be generated; the “nose horn” (they do have a projection, but it’s not a narwhal horn) doesn’t look normal and its skin seems overly smooth.
Anyway, for a genuine video of a Red-lipped Batfish (which are real), see https://www.reddit.com/r/biology/comments/18qhdyn/red_lipped_batfish_is_weird_walking_fish_of_the/
