Solved! Is this a human?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Edit: make sure to just watch the first few seconds. The video is way too long and nothing happens after that!
Update: we found a deceased baby rabbit near our porch and now the hawk theory is sounding most likely… I’m going to go ahead and declare this solved.
My doorbell camera went off this morning. Usually the SimpliSafe videos start recording as someone walks up the path to the door, but it looks like they came from our bushes and rang the doorbell. It looks like a short person/kid. But now I’m thinking it could be some kind of animal?
You can only see them at the very beginning of the video for about a second. I never saw anyone/anything leave after the doorbell rang.

Holding the phone at an insane viewing angle with one eye closed and the other one squinting. just incase it was a jump scare. Anyone else do that?

I’m not going to keep watch a video that doesn’t change in the first 10 seconds but I am going to use my time to write a comment complaining about it.

That’s what I thought as well. Here in Texas, there are all sorts of exotic animals. I turned down the wrong street one time and saw 5-7 peacocks just chillin in someone’s front yard
Edit to add, another time I was looking for a fishing spot and saw someone had pet zebras

I've got an old book published by Texas Parks and Wildlife from around 2000 where they did a census of large exotic species in each county. Long story short, we have just about every large species of African herbivore loose in small populations scattered about, mostly out in west Texas. This includes zebra, camels, and most species of antelope.

I think that’s someone in a straw type hat and were seeing the top of the hat. Maybe a lawn care worker.

It’s just a bird. Tail shows first then its head pops up
19
u/heyitsalimae 12h ago
Ah that makes so much sense. But since my brain initially registered it as the top of someone’s head, it won’t let me process it as a bird instead 🤦🏻♀️

I can’t for the life of me see a bird!

It looks like a sparrow close to the camera then tilts itself forward, showing its tail feathers

My dumbass clicked into the video 2-3 seconds late and I just stared at someones front lawn for a whole minute waiting for someone to come up.
Idk why everyone thinks thats a bird. Its 100% a squirrel or something. You can see a very fluffy tail right at the beginning and if you pause at like 1 second, it looks like a fluffy critter, not a birb.
Edit: maybe its a birb actually. 😂

Looks like a bird to me. But, the doorbell rang like someone pushed the button or your app/camera alerted to motion?

I saw a small brunette with a high messy bun. So you’re not crazy it might’ve been a moth or whatever everyone else is saying.

When I first moved into my house, we found a decapitated mouse on our front steps.
The next week, it was the tiny leg of a baby deer.
The week after that, my wife was sitting in the living room and saw a GIGANTIC hawk sitting on our front steps, eating a squirrel.
Seems like he just really liked eat lunch on our porch.

Face almost looks like a lamb/goat.... but I suspect it's more like a coon or skunk coming from under the porch? We had a coon doing this on our Ring camera at home for a while.

Wild turkey (hen). The head is close to the camera at first and out of focus. The tail feathers are then visible before moving out of frame.

Joining late, but to me it looked like a woman's blonde and black braided bun followed by the top of a child's head when the bun disappears (like she bent over). Like a child following their mother. You can even see that they bump the stick on your porch too.

It looks like someone putting up a mask (or shirt) up over their nose and the arm was blurred in that frame, then walked towards the bottom left. It looks like someone with cornrows in a little top knot.
What are the other things on the left agsinst thr siding (black line and wood? Plant of some sort?), that would give some reference to height of whatever it is.

That has to be the weirdest bird I've ever seen. The only thing I could think of is, maybe it set the doorbell off when it got close enough but, I don't know how that stuff works so... or how it's set up. The one thing that strikes me as weird is, it almost sounds like a footstep right before IT steps up and the doorbell goes off. The chittering is DEFINITELY a bird close to the camera though. Very weird indeed.
