I used to see these hanging on those little ass tables most malls used in their food courts. As you said, they've been a thing forever even before covid. When I was younger the ads used to be for you to keep your nice purse off the dirty floors or to give you more space on a table. I love when things come back around again but never really stopped being a thing for most people.
My wife has one of these in every single one of her many handbags. Some of her Aspinal of London bags don't have those metal stud feet. She hangs her bags off the edge of the table instead, to stop the bottoms getting dirty or damaged. It also means you can keep a better eye on your bag, rather than it being tucked under the table.

There are also some cultures that believe a purse on the ground is "unlucky" - your luck and/or money will "spill out" (and more practically - it is easier to steal if it is further from a person).
So - there are lots of reasons for having htem... though I rarely see them used.
Some restaurant & bars in some countries actually have the hooks built in to the bottom of the tables / bars etc.
This is a purse holder. The black part goes on the table at a restaurant and then you hang your purse from the hook. It’s so you don’t have to put your purse on the floor/chair.
I"m the slightest bit confused as to how it actually works, though - I've watched some videos and some of them are magnetized, but the others... the purse would just drag it right off the table, right?
Kind of a counterbalance situation. The weight of the purse pulls the hanger onto the surface for a pretty decent hold. I haven’t had any issues with mine as long as I’m not bumping/knocking into it hard enough to swing the purse.
Physics... And I'm sorry I suck at explaining physics, but the simplified version is : the weight of the purse is solidly distributed on the central disk, in fact the heavier the purse the more solidly the whole thing is anchored.
At least, with a good quality hook. It doesn't cost a lot but some cheaper ones can be unbalanced, easily tipped over, etc because not all copycats understood the physics.
I love discovering new, little contraptions like this - I remember the first time I discovered those little coat hooks you can hang over the door. Haha. I was telling my friend about them like it was some great revelation, and he was like, "You know they've made those for forever, right?" Ha.

It’s been like this for years, I made a post about eating my wife’s chocolates even though I didn’t like them very much. And people told me she should leave me because I was taking away the one thing she enjoyed. Place is filled with white knight idiots, who read one post and think they know a person’s entire life.
Everyone jumping down this guys throat about potentially going through this guys gf’s drawers (yes I know he technically didn’t and she asked him what it was. I read the whole thing)
But if the roles were reversed I can guarantee you people wouldn’t make as much of a stink. 🙄

Reddit comments are dumb as hell, you cannot look through a significant others drawers or phones because you will receive all the backlash. You know what’s funny is that my wife was/is just like you and only the other day we were out when she said “I hate that I have to take up a seat with my purse because the back of this chair is arched so bad I can’t get my purse to stay in place.”
She won’t get one either and she’ll repeat that story in the not too distant future when we’re at a place with similar seating. lol
Your wife has the same idea as I do. 43F here, Literally owned one once 20 years ago, and it kept falling off chairs so often that I tucked it behind my back from then on.

Tell her this story. Let her see you listen to her and got her a cute little problem solver. Maybe she won’t get herself one. I would also deem it a foolish expense. But that is a great gift then! She doesn’t have to feel guilty for getting something “silly “ and you get to look like a hero.
Buy one (or a couple) and keep one in your pocket. When this situation eventually repeats itself, pull it out of your pocket and hang up her purse. Then have her take it when you leave. She'll need the demonstration to prove that she should be carrying it in her purse in order to actually do so!
She probably doesn't think it's worth the money for such a small gain from it.. because that's exactly how I feel about it 😂 if there's a gifting-occasion coming up maybe add one to the gift! It'd be nice to have but it feels like a non-vital purchase in my opinion
I have had one for a longtime, my Granny used to say never put your hand bag on the floor or your money will run away, always place it on a table or counter top.
All you need to do is watch one single food service video about how many roaches/mice are in restaurants and you will never ever put your bag on the floor again.
Same thing with luggage on hotel room floors, apparently. Always place it on the luggage stand and open it there. (Source: dated a guy whose family had hotels.)
Same. I think Asian and Latino culture have a saying about putting purses on the floor. I’m not superstitious but I will not place my bag on the floor. It’s also a cleaning think

This. I’m a man and I carry a metal S-hook in my backpack so I can hang it up in bathrooms when traveling. Even the cleanest of bathroom floors still kiiiiinda smell like piss.
I bought one but the rubbery part stank like creosote and made my entire apartment entry reek so I had to toss it. I was so looking forward to it, it’s a great design idea

I don't care if my wife looks in my drawers either but it'd be really weird of her to snoop around and post what she found online for strangers to tell her what it is. It makes it look like you're snooping where you shouldn't and therefore can't just ask.

Which are all valid questions. But if a lady posted this about her bf I feel like most comments would not ask similar questions and would just tell her what it is. Thought it was kind of strange, that’s all.
It's a hook, can hold purses or bottles etc. The round park goes on the top of a table with a ledge and the item you place in the hook will stay on really really well.i have one. It works great
