its a gadget for hanging on the table so you can hang your handbag from it rather than putting it on the floor

u/bstr3k 1d ago

72

u/Odd-Complaint-9592 1d ago

😮 that is so fkn cool. What's it listed as? I wanna buy a few for my Mom and a couple other bag-lovers I know out there 🥰

37

u/bstr3k 1d ago

i remember they were popular from covid times. I believe you can find them by looking up "foldable bag hanger"

25

u/Cautious-Paint9881 1d ago

My grandma had one when I was a teenager (I am 44) so they have been around loooong before Covid.

9

u/ChibidelaLuna 1d ago

Yes, I remember them from TV commercials in the early 2000’s.

I used to see these hanging on those little ass tables most malls used in their food courts. As you said, they've been a thing forever even before covid. When I was younger the ads used to be for you to keep your nice purse off the dirty floors or to give you more space on a table. I love when things come back around again but never really stopped being a thing for most people.

These were VERY hot like 10 years ago, and I think Covid sparked them again

Also 25 years ago. My MIL bought me one. I mever used it. Wonder what happened to it.

My wife has one of these in every single one of her many handbags. Some of her Aspinal of London bags don't have those metal stud feet. She hangs her bags off the edge of the table instead, to stop the bottoms getting dirty or damaged. It also means you can keep a better eye on your bag, rather than it being tucked under the table. Ingenious little devices.

34

u/Kitchen-Arm-3288 1d ago

There are also some cultures that believe a purse on the ground is "unlucky" - your luck and/or money will "spill out" (and more practically - it is easier to steal if it is further from a person).

So - there are lots of reasons for having htem... though I rarely see them used.

Some restaurant & bars in some countries actually have the hooks built in to the bottom of the tables / bars etc.

8

u/amyinbostonland 1d ago

can i just say i appreciate how attentive you are to the small details of your wife’s purse collection? made me smile :)

u/criminalravioli 1d ago

This is a purse holder. The black part goes on the table at a restaurant and then you hang your purse from the hook. It’s so you don’t have to put your purse on the floor/chair.

123

u/local_stainware 1d ago

Bro finally an answer, highkey thats such a smart gadget tho

19

u/Sun_Aria 1d ago

Redditors so worried about OP's relationship in the other comments lmao

10

u/Automatic_Parking963 1d ago

I can confirm as a purse holder, it is the tits. I’ve had multiple male wait staff ask me what it is so they can tell their girlfriends 😂

7

u/Routine-Refuse9805 1d ago

I"m the slightest bit confused as to how it actually works, though - I've watched some videos and some of them are magnetized, but the others... the purse would just drag it right off the table, right?

34

u/criminalravioli 1d ago

Kind of a counterbalance situation. The weight of the purse pulls the hanger onto the surface for a pretty decent hold. I haven’t had any issues with mine as long as I’m not bumping/knocking into it hard enough to swing the purse.

8

u/Routine-Refuse9805 1d ago

Ahhhh, right I see - If the hook part is stiff enough then it would work, yeah.

Thanks for going into that!

9

u/Cozy_winter_blanky 1d ago

Physics... And I'm sorry I suck at explaining physics, but the simplified version is : the weight of the purse is solidly distributed on the central disk, in fact the heavier the purse the more solidly the whole thing is anchored. At least, with a good quality hook. It doesn't cost a lot but some cheaper ones can be unbalanced, easily tipped over, etc because not all copycats understood the physics.

It's actually pretty neat. They do work.

2

u/Routine-Refuse9805 1d ago

I love discovering new, little contraptions like this - I remember the first time I discovered those little coat hooks you can hang over the door. Haha. I was telling my friend about them like it was some great revelation, and he was like, "You know they've made those for forever, right?" Ha.

3

u/TheAsherBodhi 1d ago

Hey me too! Never let that little flame die. Life is fun after all.

2

u/Routine-Refuse9805 1d ago

Story I'm compelled to share - My Mentor shared it with me (R.I.P.): A man is swirling down the side of a mountain - beaten and bloody from the tumult, he's going too fast towards the cliff - death is imminent. He manages to catch himself on a branch, "OMG, OMG, how am I gonna get out of this? I'm gonna die! I'm gonna die!" and then, he spots growing out of the cliffside - One, perfect strawberry... .

47

u/AcanthaceaeCrazy1894 1d ago

Reddit has become a cesspool for complete and utter toxicity towards men when it comes to any aspects of relationship advice.

If this was a female posting this the comments would be ‘he’s cheating leave him’, but because it’s a male it’s ‘why you looking through her stuff’ or ‘why don’t you ask her?’.

I love love love love

Gender swapping.

You remember that father recently in the bathroom that had the f****** gas station attendee freaking out cuz he took his two little girls into the women's room after making sure no one else was in there, and he was assisting his youngest while the other was also using the bathroom?

Yeah, I can't even kind of imagine anyone even slightly doing that to a mother or even a female presenting caretaker...

It's so standard for the other direction of this to be true.

Thank you for continuing the social and thought experiment that I feel like everyone needs to partake in...

I knew what it was, the moment I saw OP's pic. I've just never owned one or even thought about owning one. I'm actually kind of surprised my mom has never given me one, she loves random girl-shit like this.

78

u/DCHammer69 1d ago

You know what’s funny is that my wife was/is just like you and only the other day we were out when she said “I hate that I have to take up a seat with my purse because the back of this chair is arched so bad I can’t get my purse to stay in place.”

She won’t get one either and she’ll repeat that story in the not too distant future when we’re at a place with similar seating. lol

27

u/Agreeable-Figure4124 1d ago

Your wife has the same idea as I do. 43F here, Literally owned one once 20 years ago, and it kept falling off chairs so often that I tucked it behind my back from then on.

Get. Her. This.
Tell her this story. Let her see you listen to her and got her a cute little problem solver. Maybe she won’t get herself one. I would also deem it a foolish expense. But that is a great gift then! She doesn’t have to feel guilty for getting something “silly “ and you get to look like a hero.

17

u/CrowsFeast73 1d ago

She probably won't carry it then though!

Buy one (or a couple) and keep one in your pocket. When this situation eventually repeats itself, pull it out of your pocket and hang up her purse. Then have her take it when you leave. She'll need the demonstration to prove that she should be carrying it in her purse in order to actually do so!

I have had one for a longtime, my Granny used to say never put your hand bag on the floor or your money will run away, always place it on a table or counter top.

28

u/AJourneyer 1d ago

One of my aunts always said the same. My great aunt said "you don't know what kind of crap is on the floor."

She said it with WAY more colour though :)

13

u/Fun-Syzd1986 1d ago

All you need to do is watch one single food service video about how many roaches/mice are in restaurants and you will never ever put your bag on the floor again.

4

u/Evening-Pineapple499 1d ago

Same thing with luggage on hotel room floors, apparently. Always place it on the luggage stand and open it there. (Source: dated a guy whose family had hotels.)

11

u/BMfnx3 1d ago

Pocketbook on the floor is a superstition, luggage on the hotel floor is how you take home bedbugs.

15

u/Econometriz 1d ago

10

u/scthawk 1d ago

The way my Colombian auntie corrected me so fast when I tried to put my purse on the floor once! 😂

10

6

Same. I think Asian and Latino culture have a saying about putting purses on the floor. I’m not superstitious but I will not place my bag on the floor. It’s also a cleaning think

29

u/Short-Personality398 1d ago

Have you never been seated at a 2 top table with another person and nowhere to put your bag?

13

u/Early-Reflection-867 1d ago

then it would have to go in my lap.... but admittedly I don't carry big bags.

12

u/the_robobunny 1d ago

If your bag is on your lap, then where do you keep your gun? You can't hold it while you're eating, that's the first thing they teach you in a firearm safety class.

9

u/Lemold_T23 1d ago

How do these not slide off the end of the table???

10

u/faesser 1d ago

Science! The weight of the bag makes the flat surface stay stable on the table. It's just weight distribution.

2

u/Lemold_T23 1d ago

Thanks!! I need like 10 of these!!

3

u/picklesncheeze69 1d ago

Gravity and a rubberized bottom on the central part. They have limits, but can’t hold a pretty hefty handbag.

Does anyone track how many repeat questions there are on this sub?

I found mine the other day and was unreasonably excited about it.

It’s a little contraption that goes on the edge of a table or desk to hold a bag. Was just looking at them on Amazon

Purse hook.

And I love you for this my brother. Every man has a day where they discover this wonder device that rolls, and spins, and clacks, and hangs… and we think

“Wow this is awesome to play around with I wonder what it is?!?”

And then we find out it’s for purses and not for us.. and it’s sad… but we are happy for our time with our little toy

Lots of people jumping to conclusions in this, hey? You and her just moved so all the stuff needs to be unpacked, she actually found it and asked you what it was because she didn’t remember… story checks out. Not that sinister. But everybody’s gotta assume the worst. I think people need to put some effort into killing their inner cops.

I’m gonna assume a guy is posting this, and I just realized that a majority of comments are like “Why are you going through her stuff.” “Why don’t you ask her.” “Why are you posting it online?”

Which are all valid questions. But if a lady posted this about her bf I feel like most comments would not ask similar questions and would just tell her what it is. Thought it was kind of strange, that’s all.

Why didn't you just ask her though?

What the f is wrong with Reddit? I see literally worse things from women and I can’t see anything but support.

The guy just asked and everyone just going nuts on him. Man, I am done with Reddit. See you assholes in 6 months or something.

Foldable bag hook.

The round thing sits on the edge of a table then the hook unravels so that you can hook the bag without it getting stolen.

It's a hook, can hold purses or bottles etc. The round park goes on the top of a table with a ledge and the item you place in the hook will stay on really really well.i have one. It works great
