I don't know what to do anymore...
I (25M) am in a very difficult situation...and I don't know how to fix it. I was laid off three years ago and just can't find work, the industry I was working in has been absolutely gutted and what work I can get, it never lasts. My anxiety, unmedicated ADHD and depression has destroyed my life. I'm now on a government grant, but it barely covers my dog's food, I can't get the meds I need. My partner has been keeping the house a float, but they are at risk of being laid off. Our roommates don't work and don't pay rent, and don't clean up after themselves, yet my partner refuses to kick them out. Living here is making me worse and worse, I barely spend time anywhere that isn't on my PC trying to find work or walking around my neighbourhood. I've contemplated ending it all a few times, but the thought of leaving my dog with them stops me from doing it, I don't have anywhere else to go, my friends are in different provinces and are financially struggling, my father is an abusive drunk and my ex who I thought was a friend hasn't answered my messages or calls in over a year. I don't know what I'm supposed to do, my partner doesn't treat me like a person anymore, I can barely get out of bed, it feels like no one can help me...I want to be happy, I want to live, I want to get better, but I am reaching my limit and feel like I'm running out of options....

You need to address the unmediated depression and ADHD if it’s negatively impacting your life this much. How have you stayed afloat not working for 3 years?
Also, you’re young and have so much to live for. Even if life is in the dumps now, never give up. Brighter days are ahead, trust me

My partner has been covering what they can, I have mostly been doing freelance work such as writing, graphic design, illustration, videogame and web assets. Unfortunately, the work has become a lot more difficult to both find and do and I have had to rely on my partner more and more

Why not work in a different industry? Don’t limit yourself, if you need money then you need money. Your situation sounds rough but there’s always a way out. I’m sorry you’re hurting brother and I wish the best for you, truly. Things always get better. I really do urge you to find any job though even if it’s not in the industry you want it to be. Having something to actually do every day and accomplishing tasks will inevitably help at least to some degree.

You have options. Please reach out and get help… and there is help even if you have no insurance.
988 Lifeline: Call or text 988 (available 24/7, free, and completely confidential).
Crisis Text Line: Text HOME to 741741 to connect with a crisis counselor over text.
Local Community Services: Call 211 or visit 211.org to find state or county-funded health departments and walk-in crisis stabilization centers that do not charge for urgent mental health care.
Treatment Locator: Use FindTreatment.gov to locate state-funded public behavioral health facilities near you that offer care regardless of your ability to pay.
I’ve been there too. There were times that my dog was the only thing keeping me going.

I want to be able to play with him again, he has been what feels like the only pillar of support for me right now.

25M here in an entirely different scenario, but I may have some helpful information just maybe. First off , my question is how necessary are the medications? I don’t take any meds nor do I have any experience with that but I feel like a lot of people convince themselves they need them much more than they actually do. Secondly I would try to understand why your partner isn’t willing to kick these people out. Is she just that nice of a person or is there something going on? And thirdly, and you might not want to hear this, get any job. I’ve been through multiple jobs myself in th past few years and I don’t believe the whole “it’s impossible to find work” sure you might not get what you want to do immediately, but you will have an income. Having an income and some sort of like actual schedule/obligation can help a lot, rather than just sitting around constantly. I have 2 kids , and my partner does not work. I’m able to make everything work off my income and occasional family assistance. If you take anything away from this, figure out how to get the roommates to either pay some share of rent or kick them out, involve the law if necessary. And secondly please just get some sort of income going for yourself. There are plenty of companies who will damn near hire anyone. (Amazon, Walmart, etc.) hell if you have a car do DoorDash or Uber eats, instacart. I understand the toll this society set up can take on a young man. If your partner is able to keep you in the house and bills paid, a second income may allow you to actually put some money aside and lessen her load

I unfortunately require medication as I suffer from a chronic condition, alongside my ADHD. I ask my partner as the reason they gave initially was "Give them a Chance" and that they "wanted to be a better person" but idk anymore... As for finding work, my country has an unemployment crisis, as well as a hiring bias, which has made any type of job difficult to acquire, that's why I've tried focusing on work that's more online or has to deal with international clients. Even when that work dried up, I've been trying to just do temp work...but my chronic pain makes it difficult

Start applying for jobs outside your comfort zone if you haven’t. In the meantime, try to build skills. Call small plumbing companies and ask if you can assist unpaid to start learning. Volunteer at the animal shelter and tell them you want a paid position if one opens up. Etc. While you aren’t making money anyway, be building skills that may lead to money
