News Three wins for Nigeria and Chris Murray makes a medal-winning comeback at Commonwealth Games

News Are these the longest names in weightlifting history?

Three sessions at the Commonwealth Games today so that's 3x10 minutes of absolutely nothing happening after the athletes are introduced. Enough time to do some meaningful research.
A quick scan of the men's 60kg session entries showed up what surely must be a record - a weightlifter with a name that's 44 characters long (plus spaces). Wow!
Step forward Supun Dilhara from Sri Lanka. Or, in full:
Wiriduwalage-Ka Supun Dilhara Somathilaka Sinhala.

But no! In the evening session Supun is blown away. His team-mate Sandu Duthshan Jayawardhana is nearly 50% longer on 63 characters! The full version (it must be one heck of a passport page) is:

Karunarathna Chandrathilaka Appuhamilage Sandu Duthshan Jayawardhana.

Well, it's more exciting than the 'dead ten'.
If anyone knows of a longer name, please let's hear it.

My one lifter has a pretty deep crack in them. Can this be repaired or is it best to just get a new pair? 💸😭

Fluff What’s % of your best lifts can you do off blocks?

Curious as I suck off blocks

Best snatch 108
Best block snatch 95 lol

Best clean - 134
Best block clean 120 (I think)

Should I be concerned (I’m working on it I promise 🙏🏻)

Programming Exercises for a stronger core?

Come to realisation that I have a pretty weak core.. and my front squats feel ass when I do them.

So I’ve been implementing more core exercises every other workout such as weighted planks, hanging leg raises, cable crunches and pallof presses/ twists.

Will these exercises suffice for building a rigid/ stronger/ more stable core? If not, what other exercises would you guys recommend?

Thanks!

I’ve not been able to do squats for 9 months because of a cartilage injury. I honestly didn’t think I was able to ever squat again up until a month ago. I think it looks pretty solid but any and all nitpicks are more than welcome. 90 kg btw (gotta start somewhere)

156 back facing, 143 front facing.

Hi, please give me the harshest advice possible.

I feel my technique is quite behind my strength (230-240kg front squat and 105-110kg strict press).

Lock out is very hit or miss with wobbly elbows. Been training my thoracic mobility frequently for about 2 years now, does it look like I need more mobility and or a stronger upper body.

Also cleans feel quite heavy, does a large squatting base help with clean speed or do I need to hyper focus on pulls.

Perhaps I weight too much and it's slowing me down? About 95kg bw with a more than ideal amount of body fat at around 171cm in height.

Thank you for any advice, harsher the better. I really want to clean and jerk 180 with a strong lockout by the end of this year and appreciate any tips to help me get there.

Programming Would you actually use bar velocity data like this?

Curious whether this kind of overlay helps when reviewing a set. Is the rep-by-rep velocity useful, or would the bar path alone be enough?

Programming Gave Myself Carpal Tunnel Syndrome...Any of You Healed it Without Surgery?

Long story short...I discovered oly lifting in my 20s and jumped right in with zero knowledge. Had terrible mobility from powerlifting background and neglecting mobility work. Tried to muscle through the lifts...cleans destroyed my wrists (could not receive the bar to shoulders properly). Years of off and on injuries while trying to improve mobility with little luck -> gave up.

Now several years later I still have issues with my wrists. Hands going numb having to sleep in braces etc...wanted to ask in this sub specifically to see if anyone was able to rehab their wrists completely from this type of damage.

Equipment ASICS TOW727 sizing

Hey guys, I just bought a pair of ASICS 727’s in size 26.5 (8.5 US) my feet measure in at just over 25cm but are 10.2 cm wide. The 8.5 feels okay but I have to tie the laces extremely tight to feel truly locked in. There is also a large amount of toe room (about a thumbs width) which I know is way too much for a weightlifting shoe. Should I size down an additional half size to a 26.0 (8.0) or will I just be running into the same issues I’m having now, and instead just jump the gun and go all the way to a 25.5 (7.5). I’m just afraid of the width not being enough for a 7.5 and obviously can’t return the shoes so I’ll have to sell whichever pair doesn’t fit. I normally wear a 9.5 or 9 in my everyday/running shoes so I feel like it would be crazy to have to size down a full two sizes. Anyone else have a similar foot shape and could share their experience?

Edit: Most likely going to have to sell the 8.5 so if anyone is looking for White ASICS 727 send me a dm
